What a user gets

Closes #1152.

A Claude member can set model: claude-sonnet-5-5, effort: medium, and advisor: opus independently. OpenRig passes the resolved Advisor through fresh launch, resume/restore, fork, fresh restart and handover, without writing advisorModel to user or project settings. Seats sharing a checkout remain independent; an unset Advisor emits no flag.

Resolution skips blank candidates and follows member > AgentSpec profile preferences > agent defaults. The additive node column stores the resolved selection during materialization, so snapshots, exported specs and node/graph JSON include it before the first launch. Launching the original spec re-resolves its current preferences; removing the resolved selection clears the stored value. Other runtimes ignore this Claude-only field.

How you verified it

  • npm run build and npm run lint passed locally.
  • npm run test:repo passed: 286 tests passed, one existing opt-in packaging check skipped; first-run references, docs, skill mirrors and generated context packs also passed.
  • 35 related daemon suites: 832 tests passed; two existing real-model opt-in cases skipped. The 19-case Advisor lifecycle suite covers materialization before launch, export/snapshot persistence and refresh after AgentSpec changes, as well as launch, restore, fork and removal.
  • The same 30 cases against unchanged base bed4d458 produced 23 failures and seven passing controls: missing persistence/flags, lost handover configuration, and unverified Claude identity with Advisor argv.
  • The new lifecycle tests use real SQLite, config resolution, instantiation, export, snapshot and restore orchestration, plus the production Claude adapters. Eight managed/classic fresh, resume, fork and legacy-resume cases execute the generated commands through /bin/sh with a private argv recorder, including literal quoting and an unconfigured peer.
  • Installed Claude Code 2.1.296 recognizes --advisor opus in a parser-only probe ending with a deliberately invalid option. No provider conversation or Advisor transcript was generated.
  • The additional blank-candidate and prelaunch-persistence regressions produced five assertion failures against the prior PR revision 6c961af5 (14 passing controls); all 19 cases now pass. Existing handover enumeration guards still require profile and effort columns while allowing the new Advisor column.
  • Final revision f1c78fae passed all eight jobs in the fork's unchanged Tests workflow: build/package, typecheck, repository checks, all four complete package suites and the installed-package scenario. The scenario caught the seeded durability fault and passed the healthy controls. Upstream Actions still requires maintainer approval.

Anything you were unsure about

This touches launch/restore, native process identity and migration arteries. Both strict Claude identity readers accept --advisor value and --advisor=value without treating the Advisor as the primary conversation; malformed Advisor arguments cannot establish native identity, and a fork parent is not accepted as the new conversation. The migration also has an upgrade test with an existing seat, and the shared migration fixture stays in sync.

The stub runtime bypasses Claude's native argument builders and process identity, so a stub scenario cannot demonstrate this feature. The shell-recorder and lifecycle/process-observation regressions above exercise those seams instead. A Claude version supporting --advisor is required; actual provider-side Advisor use is outside these offline tests. With no explicit Advisor, native Claude settings/defaults continue to apply.

  • One concern per PR; no version bump; no CHANGELOG.md edit
  • Tests added or updated where the change is testable
  • I listed the checks I ran, their results, and any checks I could not run

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an optional Claude Advisor model setting, configurable at the agent, profile, or member level. Member settings take precedence.
    • The selected Advisor is used for new, resumed, restored, forked, and handed-over Claude sessions, and is retained in exported specs and snapshots.
    • Invalid or blank Advisor values are ignored with an advisory; other runtimes do not use this setting.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance on Advisor configuration, precedence, and session behavior.

Walkthrough

This change adds optional per-node Claude Advisor configuration. It validates and resolves the value from member, profile, or agent defaults, stores it with node data, and passes it to Claude launch and resume commands. Serialization, graph output, lifecycle events, and tests also cover Advisor values.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Persist the resolved Advisor during materialization.

When a member inherits preferences.advisor or defaults.advisor, createMemberNode stores only input.member.advisor. materializeValidatedSpec can return before launchExistingAgentMember resolves and writes the inherited value. An export, graph read, or snapshot of that materialized node therefore reports no Advisor. Resolve and store the effective value before materialization returns; retain the launch-time update for later spec changes. The materialization test currently checks persistence only after launchMaterialized.

Thanks, @Aschenbath. As you describe it, a Claude member can set its own Advisor model, for example advisor: opus, and OpenRig passes it through launch, resume, fork and handover without writing advisorModel to user or project settings. We'll review it and comment here.

…r and reporting)

OPR.0.7.0.7, first half. A seat's explicit effort choice is stored in its own
column (nodes.effort_choice, migration 104), so nodes.effort stays the authored
or default resolution that spec refresh writes, and --clear can name what the
seat goes back to: the authored level, or no flag (the runtime's default).

Like set-model, the verb validates, writes and persists a node.effort_changed
event in the same transaction, reports changed: false when nothing changes, and
never restarts the seat or touches its peers, model or account. A database
without the column refuses instead of reporting a change. The reply keeps
requested, saved, emitted (not yet) and observed (not observed) apart, and says
whether the seat is running now (unknown when the tmux probe can't tell).

Launches don't read the choice yet: that wiring waits on the precedence answer
and is sequenced with #1163, so this branch must not merge on its own.
