Nested calls do not emit duplicate error events. Sign-in code preparation matches requested email or phone identifiers to factors. Sign-up code requests update a differing destination before preparing verification. Enterprise SSO sign-up uses the sign-up redirect flow. ChangesAuthentication flows

…, sendCode and error events
- Clerk.auth.signUpWithEnterpriseSso ran the sign-in redirect flow. It now
starts a sign-up redirect, like SignUp.authenticateWithRedirect(EnterpriseSSO).
- SignIn.sendCode { email/phone } and sendResetPasswordCode ignored the value
and sent to the first factor of that type, or to an empty id. They now send
to the factor that matches the value, fall back to the only factor when its
identifier is masked, and fail locally when nothing matches. Both now go
through prepareFirstFactor, so they get its status checks too.
- AuthEvent.Error fired only from Clerk.auth methods. Every public sign-in and
sign-up entry point, on Clerk.auth or on SignIn/SignUp, now reports failures
through one helper. Nested entry points (SSOService creating its sign-in via
SignIn.create, for example) report once, from the outermost call, and the
OAuth callback leaves reporting to the awaiting authenticateWithRedirect.

firstFactorFor accepted the sole masked candidate even when its visible characters contradicted the requested identifier, and refused an exact identifier when several candidates were masked. It now picks the masked factors whose visible characters fit the value, as long as they all belong to one destination. Also report AuthEvent.Error from direct RestoreCredentials.signIn and BiometricCredentials.signIn calls, and pin the OAuth callback's withoutAuthErrorReporting wrapper with a test.

148-174: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winAssert the public event for a failed redirect callback.
The new
SSOServiceCancellationTesttest callsSSOService.authenticateWithPreparedRedirectdirectly and asserts that the callback emits no event. It does not test event reporting by the publicSignIn.authenticateWithRedirectcall awaiting that failure. The existing public redirect test fails earlier atSignIn.create. Add a test that completes a public redirect with a failing transfer callback and asserts that the call returns a failure and emits exactly oneAuthEvent.Error. A regression limited to reporting the deferred callback result would otherwise go undetected.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

SignUp.sendCode { email / phone } used the value only to choose between
the email and phone strategy, then prepared verification for whatever
address the sign-up already had. When the value differs, it now updates
the sign-up to it first and sends nothing if that update fails.
Why
Architecture review finding #9: "Two public auth APIs that drift apart." The prebuilt UI calls the original
SignIn.create/prepareFirstFactorlayer and the samples call the newerClerk.authfacade. Neither layer is deprecated, and they have drifted apart. This PR fixes the three drift bugs the review named. It is the first PR in a stack:Clerk.auth.Scope
Clerk.auth.signUpWithEnterpriseSsoran the sign-in flow. It calledSSOService.authenticateWithRedirect, the sign-in redirect, which is also whatsignInWithEnterpriseSsocalls. It now callsauthenticateSignUpWithRedirect, the same pathSignUp.authenticateWithRedirect(EnterpriseSSO)uses.SignIn.sendCode { email = … }ignored the email (phonetoo). It sent to whicheveremail_codefactor came first, and to an empty id when there was none.sendResetPasswordCodehad the same bug. Both now:safe_identifiermatches the value. Emails match case-insensitively and phone numbers by digits.first_factor_strategy_not_supportedand make no request.prepareFirstFactor(via the same params), so they now get the same status validation assendEmailCode/sendPhoneCode.AuthEvent.Erroronly fired fromClerk.auth.*methods. Decision: both layers report failures the same way. Every public sign-in and sign-up entry point now wraps its body in one helper,Auth.reportingFailures. That coversSignIn/SignUpcompanion methods, their extension functions (prepareFirstFactor,attemptFirstFactor,sendCode,verifyCode,update,get/reload, …), the publicRestoreCredentials.signIn()/BiometricCredentials.signIn(), and theClerk.authmethods. Exception: the native magic-link facade (startEmailLinkSignIn,handleMagicLinkDeepLink, completeMagicLink) returnsNativeMagicLinkErrorand does not emitAuthEvent.Error.Clerk.auth.signUpWithGoogleOneTap→SignIn.authenticateWithGoogleOneTap→SignUp.create, andSSOServicecreates its sign-in throughSignIn.create. A coroutine-context marker makes only the outermost call emit, so one failure produces exactly one event.SSOService.completeAuthenticateWithRedirect) runs with reporting turned off. Its result is returned to the suspendedauthenticateWithRedirectcaller, which reports it.Clerk.auth.events.Clerk.auth.*methods emit on their ownAuthinstance, which is the same object in production.Blast Radius
Apps that collect
Clerk.auth.eventswill now getAuthEvent.Errorfor failures from the prebuilt UI and from directSignIn/SignUpcalls, not only fromClerk.auth.*. The emission rule is unchanged: anyClerkResult.Failureemits. The new events include failures the prebuilt UI expects and handles:form_identifier_not_foundbefore the UI falls back to sign-up.Filtering cancellations out of
AuthEvent.Erroris a separate product decision, and I've left it out of this PR. The prebuilt UI does not react toAuthEvent.Error.signUpWithEnterpriseSsonow creates a sign-up. Any caller relying on the old sign-in behaviour should callsignInWithEnterpriseSso.sendCode/sendResetPasswordCodenow return a failure instead of sending to a different address when the value matches no factor.sendCodealso refuses to prepare when the sign-in is notneeds_first_factor, the same checksendEmailCodealready makes.sendResetPasswordCodeis not status-gated, becauseprepareFirstFactorskips that check for reset strategies. When Clerk only exposes masked identifiers, both pick the masked factor whose visible characters fit the value, and fail rather than guess when that is ambiguous or contradicted. No public signatures change.
Auth.emitAuthErrorwent from private to internal.Overlap with in-flight items:
Auth.removeSessionLocally. This PR only re-wraps the body ofsignOutnext to it, so expect at most a trivial textual conflict.Strategyand feat(api): add sealed OAuthResult.Outcome and drop UI force-unwraps #1030OAuthResult.outcome) touches the same files. Its types flow throughreportingFailuresunchanged because the helper is generic. TurningOAuthResultitself into a sealed type is deferred to item 9's follow-up (UI migration + deprecation).reportingFailuresis the single place to adapt if failures become exceptions.Testing

The "match masked first factors by their visible characters" and "send SignUp.sendCode to the address the caller names" commits address review feedback (including CodeRabbit's masked-candidate comment):
firstFactorFormatches masked identifiers by their visible characters. It no longer picks a sole masked factor that contradicts the requested value (e.g.u***@x.comforother@y.com), and it now finds the right factor when several are masked (e.g.a***@x.com/b***@y.comforbob@y.com).SignUp.sendCode { email / phone }used the value only to pick email or phone, then sent to whatever address the sign-up already had. When the value differs, it now updates the sign-up to it first, and sends nothing if that update fails.RestoreCredentials.signIn()andBiometricCredentials.signIn()reportAuthEvent.Errorwhen called directly.sendCodestatus check, reset fallback toemail_code, phone reset, and the OAuth callback'swithoutAuthErrorReporting(verified to fail when the wrapper is removed).🤖 Generated with Claude Code
