fix(ai-openai, ai-groq, ai-grok): forward abortSignal to speech, transcription and image requests - #1933
generateSpeech(), generateTranscription() and generateImage() compose an effective abort signal from the caller's abortSignal and timeout and hand it to the adapter (documented in types.ts: "Adapters should forward this to the provider SDK"). The OpenAI, Groq and Grok adapters never passed it on, so cancelling or timing out left the provider request running to completion, and it was still billed. The Gemini, ElevenLabs and Lovable adapters already forward it.
The signal is now passed as the SDK request option (signal) for OpenAI speech, transcription (plain, verbose and diarized) and image generation, Groq speech and Grok image generation, and as the fetch signal for Groq transcription and Grok speech, transcription and image edits. A call without a signal makes the same request as before.
Tests: a new tests/abort-signal.test.ts in each of the three packages checks that the caller's signal reaches the SDK method or fetch; they fail without the change. The full test suites of the three packages and tsc pass. A changeset is included.
This pull request was prepared with the assistance of an AI agent (Claude).

Bug Fixes
Speech generation, transcription, and image requests across OpenAI, Groq, and Grok adapters now honor abort signals, allowing in-flight requests to be canceled and timeouts to take effect.
…scription and image requests
The adapters accepted the effective abort signal that generateSpeech,
generateTranscription and generateImage compose, but never passed it to the
OpenAI SDK or fetch, so cancelling or timing out did not stop the request.
Forward it as the SDK request option or the fetch signal; calls without a
signal are unchanged.

OpenAI, Groq, and Grok media adapters now pass provided abort signals to SDK or fetch requests for speech, transcription, and image operations. Added tests check signal forwarding.

Summary
OpenAI media request forwarding packages/ai-openai/src/adapters/*, packages/ai-openai/tests/abort-signal.test.ts
Speech, image, and transcription requests pass the optional abort signal to the OpenAI SDK. Tests cover forwarding and a speech call without a signal.
Groq media request forwarding packages/ai-groq/src/adapters/*, packages/ai-groq/tests/abort-signal.test.ts
Speech and transcription requests pass the optional abort signal to the SDK or fetch. Tests cover both paths.
Grok media request forwarding packages/ai-grok/src/adapters/*, packages/ai-grok/tests/abort-signal.test.ts, .changeset/media-adapters-abort-signal.md
Speech, transcription, image-generation, and image-edit requests pass the optional abort signal. Tests cover each path. The changeset declares patch releases for all three packages.
TanStack/ai#1900: This PR forwards caller abort signals to Bedrock and Mistral chat requests, while this change covers media requests in OpenAI, Groq, and Grok adapters.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to dbc3d
Aborting or timing out an OpenAI image request that includes an input image still does not cancel the underlying request, despite the changeset saying it does. Forward the signal through the edit path before merging. The PR also lacks the E2E coverage the repository requires for behavior changes.

Image-conditioned requests bypass the new requestOptions code. generateImages returns through editImages when the prompt contains an image, and editImages calls this.client.images.edit(request) with no request options. Aborting these requests does not cancel the SDK request.
Pass abortSignal through editImages and into the SDK call. Keep the no-signal call unchanged:

Forward the optional abort signal through `generateImages` into `editImages`,
add it to `editImages`’s arguments, and pass it as SDK request options to
`this.client.images.edit` only when present. Preserve the existing one-argument
SDK call when no signal is provided.

Add E2E coverage for provider request cancellation.
The new unit tests verify only that AbortSignal reaches the SDK or fetch call. They do not verify cancellation of an in-flight OpenAI, Groq, or Grok media request. The repository requires E2E coverage for every behavior change, and the existing E2E tests do not cover cancellation through these adapters.

Thank you, @pcbeingused333! You found and fixed the dropped abort signal in the OpenAI, Groq and Grok speech, transcription and image adapters first. An audit found the same bug in many more adapters, so we fixed all of them in one PR: #1975. Your fix is included there, and the commit has a Co-authored-by trailer with your name. I am closing this PR in favor of #1975. Thanks again for the good catch.
