feat(studio): the window works on the sidecar's committed chats, and the claude -p runner is gone - #201
The window still runs each turn through claude -p and keeps chats in JSONL files. A crash or an update can cut a turn off, and the update gate does not know about it. This PR moves the window onto the sidecar's committed chats, imports the old chats once, and removes the claude -p runner.
Change
src/studio/StudioApp.tsx chats from the sidecar's committed entries: chat.open, chat.send, chat.retry, chat.stop
drafts saved on pause and on leaving a screen, one save per screen at a time; a send names only a saved draft revision
src/studio/Waiting.tsx the waiting banner names the fix (sign in, or go on), and asks a sign-in's questions
the chat shows the model its turn runs on
a readiness notice keeps Send off until sign-in, model, uv, and Python are there, and names the fix
a notice when macOS keeps Documents from the app, with Open Privacy settings and Try again
sidecar/src/methods.ts setup.check (what the agent needs), legacy.import (retry), drafts.picture (pasted pictures kept in files)
sidecar/src/chat.ts chat.send({ key, rev }) sends a stored draft revision: makes the start screen's project, moves the draft
by revision, copies its pictures, commits the message as draft-<rev> with the draft's removal (#205)
sidecar/src/store.ts each draft carries a revision; a start screen revision makes one project and records the draft it moved
src-tauri/src/studio/quit.rs a normal quit or window close waits for the window: 1.5 s for its first answer, then until it is done (60 s ceiling);
a draft the window could not save calls the quit off
sidecar/src/busy.ts the update pass: held while any task works, given back while a turn only waits on a sign-in
src-tauri/src/sidecar.rs the `busy` request takes or gives back the update gate's pass, per sidecar run
sidecar/src/legacy.ts old .m3d/transcript.jsonl chats imported once, before the window connects, files kept
removed studio/turn.rs, studio/lean.rs, system_prompt.md, the studio plugin: the claude -p runner
kept slice, Keychain, file preview, reveal, open in Bambu Studio, the updater
formal-verify skill UpdateRestart.tla models the sidecar's pass. sources.sha256 covers busy.ts, chat.ts, app.ts

The cube job and the crash test, on aojdevmac-m5, e2e debug build of this branch at 5024e48 (5e390f3 adds Pullfrog's three window and reconcile fixes), driven by mac.ts with WebKit snapshots. The send waited for a sign-in with the fix named, went on after it, and sliced the cube:
The sidecar killed with SIGKILL during the second tool step. Rust started it again, the finished first step ran once, and the turn finished with Send back:

Gatekeeper accepts it as Notarized Developer ID. The sidecar runs as the app's child. A second sidecar on its store exits 75. The headless send makes its project and asks for the update pass. The same DMG replaced ~/Applications/Materialize 3D Chat.app on the MacBook, with the same CDHashes, and its sidecar runs on the existing store.

Finding
Disposition
Reason
Work resumed after a crash ran without the pass, or a dead sidecar took it
Fix
The pass is asked for before resumed work, and each request names its sidecar run
The pass dropped mid-turn between a tool and the next step, or stayed held while a turn waited on a sign-in
Fix
Live, unblocked tasks hold it, except tools parked on a sign-in and tasks that wait only on them
A parked tool went on, or recovery stalled, while an update installed
Fix
Work waits for the pass, asking each second. Stop and quit end that wait
Drafts were lost or came back across switches, sends, and new projects
Fix
One rule: a draft moves to a new project only when it holds its first message
A retry of a lost send could send it twice
Fix
One request id and one picture set per project's unsent message
A sign-in's code and questions never showed, as window.prompt may return null in WKWebView
Fix
The window asks them in a small in-window form
The import ran after the window connected, crashed on a bad file, and reread every transcript
Fix
It runs first, skips and names a bad project, and skips imported ones
A turn kept the pass while Astra waited, beside a tool that had finished
Fix
A waiting task is idle only while it waits on live, idle children
A projects path that is not a folder crashed the import, so the sidecar never started
Fix
It now holds no old chats. The store PR's test proves it here
#197's engine status and shell deadline fixes, carried into this PR's rewrite

#200's newer-login resume went on without the update pass

Sol: a Rust slice that outlived its sidecar run lost the run's pass, so an update could restart mid-slice
Fix
f0cd331 gives each slice a pass of its own, with a Rust test. The models' code table names it
Sol: a late resume could let go a newer wait from the same refused login, and a resume at the start held up a quit
Fix

2129457 and 8809d02, with tests that failed first. Chat views carry the order they were read in
The m5 live crash test at 8809d02: after the restart the finished turn still showed "Working", as the read order started from 0 in each sidecar run
Fix
5bd71cd starts it from the clock and keeps it growing. The crash test now checks it and failed first
CodeRabbit: a chat change took its read order after another wait, so a chat.open between them could get the earlier order with newer state
CodeRabbit: the login PATH reader outlived the lookup, and output after the PATH ran into it
Fix

Pullfrog: after the engine restarted, an idle chat got no state, so a turn whose last entry the crash cut off kept showing Working
Fix
b6e65f4: the window reads the open chat again on ready, and the sidecar sends each chat's state after it reconciles. Tests failed first
Pullfrog: text typed during a send that read the same as the sent text was cleared
Fix
b6e65f4 clears only when nothing was typed since the send, with a test that failed first
Pullfrog: an old stopped step showed as running again in the next turn
Fix
b6e65f4 marks it stopped at the next message, with a test that failed first
Acceptance review: Send went out before the agent could run, with no fix named
Fix
4cb51ec and ab3907d: Send stays off until sign-in, model, uv, and Python are there, the notice names each fix, and the check reruns on ready and after a sign-in
Acceptance review: draft pictures were not kept, and text typed just before a quit was lost
Fix
4cb51ec, ab3907d, 6a4c9a6: drafts keep their pictures (pasted ones in files), and a quit waits for the pending save. Window tests written first
Acceptance review: a Documents folder macOS keeps from the app gave no visible recovery
Fix
4cb51ec: a notice opens Privacy settings and retries the import
Sol, three rounds on the draft fixes: sends cleared newer drafts, pictures crossed screens, pastes moved
Fix
6a4c9a6 and 1ac2991: each draft carries a revision, and a send removes only the one it went out with
Sol on 1ac2991: text typed during the pre-send save, and edits made while a project was created, were cleared. Old drafts had no revision
Fix
5f3b790, with tests that failed first. Sol's re-review of the fix: no findings
CodeRabbit and Pullfrog: an older chat load replaced a newer one, and edits in another project kept a sent draft
Pullfrog on 47918da, and five Sol rounds after it: a retry's identity broke on restored pictures, replaced files, failed saves, moved drafts, and races between saves
Fix
The review loop spun, so the design changed (#205): the sidecar owns the draft and the send, and a send names only a stored draft revision. cb45257, with #205's 12 cases as tests
Sol on b4c9bc2 and 964383e: a cut-off first send got stuck, an import retry's late state brought a sent picture back, and the cleanup could drop a recorded draft's picture
Fix
964383e and 361b3c5: the start screen's project records the draft it moved, an import retry takes projects only, and the cleanup keeps recorded pictures. Tests failed first
Sol on b4c9bc2, and Astra on 361b3c5: a quit during a send longer than 1.5 s lost text typed meanwhile
Fix
05144bd: the window says at once that it is saving, and Rust holds the quit until it is done. The window waits for pastes and sends, then saves every screen with allSettled
Pullfrog and Astra on 361b3c5: Send waited for an earlier save, then sent text typed after the click
Fix
05144bd: Send takes the composer as it was at the click. The test failed first
Astra and CodeRabbit on 361b3c5: no saved-state reload after an engine restart, a re-added picture dropped after a send, case-only picture names
Astra on 05144bd: a save the engine restart refused was dropped, and the quit went on with that draft unsaved
Fix
4798ac3: the quit retries the save once the engine is back. A draft that still cannot be saved calls the quit off, and the window says why. Window and Rust tests failed first
Sol on 4798ac3 and a review of 176fde9: a send clicked during the quit's wait kept its screen from saving, so the quit went on with newer text unsaved
Fix
176fde9 and cca2035: the quit is done only when no screen sends and each holds what the store holds. Tests failed first
CodeRabbit on 361b3c5: old relative picture paths, long and colliding temporary names, an edited retry's second project, previews, Send before the chat loads, stale readiness answers
None loses a draft or sends the wrong text. Astra allows them as follow-ups
Sol on 361b3c5: a late second startup read in development builds can bring a sent start picture back, and completed first sends keep their original pasted pictures on disk

Merge danger
Door: two-way. Revert this PR to undo it. The old chat files stay in place, and the import copies them.
Blast radius: high. Every chat a person sends now runs through the sidecar, and every update waits on its pass. A stuck pass would hold updates back. The gate tests, TLC, and the m5 runs prove the pass is given back, but the change reaches every person.

The PR moves Studio chat execution and storage to the sidecar. It adds revisioned drafts, update-gate coordination, legacy chat import, readiness and sign-in flows, and quit-time draft flushing. The Studio UI now uses sidecar state and chat entries. The Rust Studio runner and bundled plugin are removed.
Changes: Sidecar Chat Runtime Migration
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Revisioned drafts and chat sending sidecar/src/protocol.ts, sidecar/src/store.ts, sidecar/src/chat.ts, sidecar/src/methods.ts, sidecar/test/*
Draft saves now return revisions. Sending uses a draft key and revision, creates or recovers a start-screen project, and avoids duplicate sends. Attachments are copied into project references, and newer drafts remain stored.
The sidecar coordinates task and send activity with update passes. Sign-in waits park tasks and reacquire passes before continuing. Quit and window-close requests wait for a draft flush.
Legacy project records and transcripts are converted to imported entries and stored in conversations. The sidecar reports blocked imports and supports retry.
Studio UI and chat rendering src/studio/StudioApp.tsx, src/studio/Chat.tsx, src/studio/Waiting.tsx, src/studio/transcript.ts, src/studio/api.ts, src/studio/studio.css, src/studio/StudioApp.test.tsx, src/studio/transcript.test.ts
The UI uses sidecar state, sequenced chat updates, screen-specific draft persistence, readiness checks, sign-in prompts, and pasted-picture storage. Transcript rendering consumes stored chat entries and imported entries.
Retire the Rust Studio runner and plugin src-tauri/src/studio/*, src-tauri/resources/studio-plugin/*, src-tauri/tauri.conf.json, src-tauri/build.rs, src-tauri/capabilities/default.json, scripts/release/check-app-bundle.sh
The Rust Studio runner and project commands are removed. The plugin resources and bundle mapping are removed. The host registers quit-flush and privacy commands.
Verification and runtime documentation .agents/skills/formal-verify-materialize-3d/*, .agents/skills/verify-materialize-3d/features/studio.md, .github/workflows/formal-verification.yml
The formal model, checksum manifest, workflow coverage, and Studio runtime instructions now describe the sidecar runtime and update-gate behavior.
AojdevStudio/materialize-3d#130: The PR changes the formal-verification workflow coverage, checksum manifest, and model used by this PR.
AojdevStudio/materialize-3d#191: The PR adds the Rust Studio runner and frontend chat path that this PR removes and replaces.
Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 361b3
Resolve the draft-loss races and startup recovery gap before merging. Quitting during pending work can lose unsent content, and an early engine failure can leave saved projects inaccessible until the window restarts. Picture handling also has several bounded correctness and resource-retention issues.

The title names the two main changes: studio chats now run on the sidecar's committed chats, and the claude -p runner is removed. The raw summary confirms both: studio chat storage and sends move to the sidecar, and the Claude CLI/turn runner files (turn.rs, lean.rs, system_prompt.md, the fabricate skill) are deleted. The title is long, at 16 words and 97 characters, and it uses a conventional commit prefix. It is specific enough for a reviewer scanning history to see the primary change.

…the claude -p runner is gone
- The studio reads projects, drafts, and chats from the sidecar, and shows
committed chat entries only. Drafts save as the person types. A send keeps
one request id until it goes through, so sending again never sends twice.
- A waiting turn shows its fix: a sign-in, a key or proxy form, or Try again.
The header names the model the current turn runs with.
- The update gate: the sidecar takes the pass before a send commits and gives
it back once no task is live. Rust answers with the BuildGate, so an update
waits for busy work and refuses a send while it installs.
- Chats from before the store are imported once from each project's
.m3d/transcript.jsonl. The files stay as they are.
- Removed: the claude -p turn runner and its process-tree kill logic
(studio/turn.rs), its lean config (studio/lean.rs), its system prompt, and
the studio plugin resource. The file protocol, preview isolation, the
navigation guard, the updater, the Keychain, and the Bambu slice step stay.
- The update model maps a Studio turn to the sidecar's work. The TLA+ verdicts
and mutants are unchanged.

…drafts, replies, and sign-ins
Review fixes for the sidecar switch.
- The update pass: the sidecar asks for it before work a crash cut off
resumes, and counts it held only once Rust says yes. While an update
installs, cut-off work waits for the restart. Only pending and running
tasks count, so a turn that waits on a sign-in gives the pass back. Rust
ties the pass to the sidecar run that asked, so a run that exited cannot
take it.
- The formal model covers chat.ts and app.ts, where the pass is asked for.
TLC verdicts and mutants are unchanged.
- Old chats import before the pipe opens. A project that cannot be read is
skipped and named on stderr. A launch after the import reads no old
transcript.
- The window: sending again reuses the pictures and request id of the
message that did not go through. Chat changes that arrive while a chat
opens are kept. Drafts save at once on a switch or a send, a send removes
only the draft that holds its text, and text typed before the saved state
arrives stays. Sign-in codes and questions show in the window instead of
window.prompt.

… round-3 fixes
The refused-sign-in wait and its wiring changed two hashed files, chat.ts and
app.ts. Neither changes when the pass is taken, given back, or refused. TLC: all
nine verdicts match, and all ten mutants fail as they must.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…the turn's next step
A turn whose tool finished waits on it for a moment before it goes on. The pass
counted only pending and running tasks, so it was given back and taken again in
that moment, and an update could restart the app mid-turn. The update gate test
caught it two runs in three. Every live task now holds the pass, but a tool
parked on a sign-in, known by its task id, and a task that waits only on such
tools. TLC: all nine verdicts match, and all ten mutants fail as they must.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…etries stay with their project
- A tool that waited on a sign-in went on after it, even while an update
installed and Rust refused the pass. It now asks again each second until it
holds the pass: the update restarts the app, or it fails and the gate opens.
- Work a crash cut off, found while an update installed, waited for the
restart only. If the install failed, it never resumed. The sidecar now keeps
asking for the pass and resumes the work once it holds it.
- Text typed while a new project was made went to the start screen's draft.
It is now the new project's draft.
- A slow saved state filled a start screen the person had typed in and then
cleared. Once the person types there, the saved draft no longer fills it.
- A send in another project dropped this project's unsent message, so sending
it again took a new request id and could send it twice. Unsent messages are
now kept per project.
TLC: all nine verdicts match, and all ten mutants fail as they must.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… moves only with its own message
- A tool that signed in while an update installed waited for the pass with no
way out: Stop did not end the turn, and a quit did not end the sidecar. The
wait now ends on the tool's own stop, and as the sidecar closes it leaves the
tool unfinished for Pi to end, so the tool resumes after the restart.
- A project made from the start screen took the start screen's draft with it,
whatever it held, both in the store and in the window. A late reply could so
take a draft the person typed after they left and came back, and text saved
by its pause while the project was made stayed behind. A draft now moves only
when it holds the project's first message. Text typed while the project was
made follows the person to it when they stayed on that screen.
- The update gate test expects a pass asked for again each second.
TLC: all nine verdicts match, and all ten mutants fail as they must.

…hen a tool beside it already finished
A finished child is gone from the task graph, and the pass counted a task that
waited on a gone child as about to go on. So a turn that ran `read` beside
`astra` held the pass for as long as Astra waited on a sign-in. A waiting task
is now idle when it still waits on a live child and every live child is idle.
Only one whose children all finished is about to go on.
TLC: all nine verdicts match, and all ten mutants fail as they must.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Text typed while a project was made, then taken back before its pause, left a
save waiting for the start screen that held the sent message. Making the
project skipped the move, as the text matched the message, and the waiting
save put the message back on the start screen. Once the person stayed on that
screen, the waiting save now goes with the move or goes away.

…e sidecar PR's does
Carries #197's review fix into the window this PR rewrites: the listener is in
place before the ping, and a ping that answers late never hides a newer engine
event. The shell deadline from #197 moved into sidecar.rs with login_path, so its
hash is recorded again. TLC: all nine verdicts match, and all ten mutants fail.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…, and the sidecar still starts
The store PR's new test puts a file where the projects folder goes. The import of
old chats listed that path and threw, so the sidecar ended before it answered. A
projects path that is not a folder now has nothing to import. The attachment
check from #200 changed chat.ts, so its hash is recorded again. TLC: all nine
verdicts match, and all ten mutants fail as they must.

update pass. TLC: all nine verdicts match, and all ten mutants fail as they must.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… pass
#200 let a failure's read go on at once when a newer login was saved, by submitting the continue in its own
commit. On this branch every continue must hold the update pass, so an update never restarts the app mid-
turn. The read now records the wait and says a newer login is there, and the continue goes through the pass.
A continue for a sign-in goes on only while the turn still waits on one, so a sign-in and a read that cross
let it go once.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… rebase onto #200#200's slice once per operation and the ready-event link do not touch the gate, and every continue still
takes the update pass through Busy.during, now including a turn that goes on with a newer login. TLC gives
every recorded verdict.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… instead of being left waiting
A turn let go by a sign-in, or by a newer login a failure's read found, asked for the update pass once. While
an update installed the pass was refused, and if the install then failed nothing asked again, so the turn
showed "Sign in" with a working login saved. Such a turn now asks for the pass each second, as a tool back
from a sign-in does, and goes on once the gate opens.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…until it ends
Rust's slice goes on after the sidecar that asked for it crashes, so a resumed turn can take its result. It
held the update off only through that sidecar run's pass, which ends with the run, so an update could restart
the app mid-slice. Each slice now takes a pass of its own, as the app's own slicing does, and none starts
while an update installs. The update models name the new caller, and TLC gives every recorded verdict.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…olds up the start or a quit
A sign-in's resume waits for the update pass while an update installs. Two such resumes for one wait could
both go on: the first went on and failed again on the same refused login, and the second let that new wait
go too, sending the refused login once more. Each resume now names the run failure its wait was recorded
for. At the start, a resume that waited for the pass held up the start, so a quit could not end the sidecar.
Resumes now run beside the start, the chat's watch, and a quit.

Test the gate with two active projects.
Start a held run tool in one project and park Astra on sign-in in another. Assert that the pass stays held until the run tool finishes, then is released. The current tests would not catch a regression that releases the pass while the run tool is active.

during decrements the send count and synchronizes against the last delivered task graph, not necessarily the graph produced by the completed commit. If graph delivery lags commit completion, this can release the pass between submitting a turn and observing its live tasks.
An updater can close the gate during the handoff, leaving the newly submitted turn running without a pass or cutting it off on restart.
This can occur when: A first send commits while #graph is still empty, and its task-graph notification arrives after the finally synchronization.
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
This is a verification gap: the updated model describes the sidecar lifecycle, but its actions still model acquisition and work start as one step and omit task-graph delivery and the send-to-task handoff. A Busy implementation that releases on a stale empty graph can therefore retain the recorded passing verdict.
The formal check cannot detect an update cutting off the newly submitted work, despite being documented as checking this sidecar lifecycle.
This can occur when: A send commits before Busy receives its live-task graph, allowing a false busy notification before task observation.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Submitting a sign-in answer dismisses its prompt before auth.answer succeeds, and rejection only displays an error rather than restoring the unanswered question.
The login remains waiting for input, but the window no longer offers the question or an answer retry.
This can occur when: An answer submission fails before the login service consumes it, for example because forwarding the command fails transiently.

…teps as stopped, and never stops the start
From CodeRabbit's review, each with a test that failed first. A projects folder macOS keeps from the app made
the import throw, so the sidecar never started. It now names the folder and imports nothing until a start can
list it. An old project with a record but no chat yet is imported with an empty chat instead of dropped, and
an old step with no result shows as stopped.

…e never puts back a working turn
From CodeRabbit's review, each with a test that failed first. A step a stop or a crash left without a result
showed as running for good. Once the turn no longer runs, it shows as stopped. A chat change read before
chat.open's answer could arrive after it and show the turn as working again. Each chat view now carries the
order its state was read in, and the window keeps the newest.

…tray file in pictures never stops its start
From CodeRabbit's review of 47918da, each with a test that failed first.
- The uv and Python checks run beside the sidecar's other work, each limited to 5 s. A
check still running then counts as failed, so a stuck `uv python find` holds up no chat.
- The picture cleanup at start passes over anything in the pictures folder that is not a
picture's own folder, such as a .DS_Store Finder leaves. It threw before.

…nd a new project says which draft it took
From Sol's review of 9168046: a revision as the message's identity reused the old request
id when the change's own draft save failed, and a new project's draft was guessed from the
window's cache, so a start draft changed while the project was made could take the first
message's revision.
- A message's identity is now the count of edits to its project's composer when it went
out. The window counts each edit as it happens, saved or not, and moving between screens
is no edit. A send at the same count reuses its request id and pictures. Any edit is a
new message. Draft revisions only name the draft a send consumes.
- projects.create answers with the start screen draft the sidecar took, or null. The
window shows that draft in the project and keeps a start screen draft changed since.
- The window tests' sidecar mock moves the start draft by the sidecar's own rule.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…draft is unchanged
Redesign from the original problem, under land-pr's convergence rule: four reviews of
message identity kept finding cases, because each model guessed whether the composer
still held what went out (object identity, picture paths, a fallback revision, an edit
count).
- `revs[key]` is the revision of a screen's draft exactly as it is. Every change clears
it at once, and a save sets it only if nothing changed while the save ran. A send goes
out as `draft-<rev>`: the known revision, or the one a save of what went out gives
now. A failed save fails the send, so changed content never takes an old identity.
- projects.create takes that revision and makes one project per revision, so a first
message sent again from the start screen finds its project, and the sidecar sends it
once.
- The moved draft comes from the sidecar with its own revision, so a newer draft it took
is a new message.
- A paste that lands after the person left goes into the draft of the screen it came
from.
- After a send, each screen whose revision is still the sent one empties. The project's
newer draft drops only the sent pictures, and a newer start screen draft stays.
Tests for Sol's three cases failed first. The window mock now makes a new project per
create call and finds the old one by revision, as the sidecar does.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Review loop stopped under land-pr's convergence rule. Message identity for a send went through five review rounds and one redesign, which spun too. The root cause and all 12 cases are in #205: the window and the sidecar both own the draft and the outgoing message. The round's commits (0aa8402..b35114b, local) are not pushed. The four Pullfrog P2 threads stay open until the next round, which builds #205's design, lands.
…s only a stored revision
The window and the sidecar both owned the draft and the outgoing message, so every window-side identity model had to
guess whether its copy matched the stored draft (#205).
- chat.send takes { key, rev } and answers { project }. From the start screen it makes the project for that revision,
or finds the one it made, and moves the start draft by revision. A message already committed as draft-<rev> is not
sent again. The draft must still be that revision. Pictures are copied into refs/draft-<rev>/ once per revision.
The message and the draft removal commit together under the update pass, as before.
- projects.create is gone: nothing but a send made projects.
- The window keeps per screen only its draft, its last completed save and that save's revision, the save on its way,
and the send on its way. One save per screen at a time, no save of a screen while its send is on its way, and a
send saves first only when the screen changed. No request ids, no picture imports, no guessing what the sidecar moved.
- The 12 cases from #205 are sidecar and window tests. The window mock sends by revision as the sidecar does.

…ses now
The sidecar copies a message's pictures into its project. The Rust studio_import_file command stays for now, since
removing it means regenerating the Tauri permission files.

…rings a sent draft back, and a quit saves before it waits
From Sol's review of b4c9bc2, each with a test that failed first.
- A start screen revision's project keeps the draft it moved there. A send of that
revision again, as after a crash before the message, sends that draft and leaves a
newer project draft alone, so the start screen never gets stuck on "The draft changed".
- The window keeps the newest revision sent from or to each screen. A saved state read
before that send passes over drafts at or below it, so a sent picture never comes back.
- A quit saves what each composer holds first, even during a send, then waits for the
send, as Rust holds a quit for 1.5 s at most.
The models' hash of chat.ts is recorded again. TLC: every verdict as recorded.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…n import retry takes projects only
From Sol's review of 964383e, with tests that failed first.
- The cleanup at start also keeps the pictures a recorded start screen draft names, so
a first send cut off after its project was made can still send them.
- An import retry takes the project list and the blocked notice only, never drafts. Its
saved state may be read before a send made meanwhile, and that brought a sent picture
back. The revision filter that tried to stop it is gone, so an unsent picture from a
late first state comes back as it should.
- The quit saves during a send no more, which kept one draft under two screens and could
bring a sent picture back. Text typed during a send longer than Rust's 1.5 s hold on a
quit is a known limit, tracked in #206.
The models' hash of app.ts is recorded again. TLC: every verdict as recorded.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The new send path depends on an atomic ownership handoff from Busy.during to the harness task watcher. The supplied during implementation decrements its send count as soon as the commit returns; if task publication has not reached the watcher then, its subsequent #follow() may incorrectly release the update pass while the committed turn is starting.
The host could admit an update while sidecar turn work is running, violating the update gate's exclusion contract.
This can occur when: A turn submission commits before the Busy task watcher observes the newly active run, and an update attempts to install during that interval.

Important
One new draft race remains: Send can submit and clear text typed after the click when an autosave was already pending.
Reviewed changes Reviewed the delta from the previous Pullfrog review at 0aa8402 through 361b3c5, including #205's replacement of the window-owned send identity.
Moved send ownership into the sidecar.chat.send({ key, rev }) resolves the stored draft, creates or recovers its first project, copies pictures, and deduplicates submissions by revision.
Serialized composer persistence. Replaced window-generated request IDs and picture imports with per-screen drafts, completed-save revisions, and one in-flight save per screen.
Preserved interrupted first sends. Recorded the moved draft alongside its project and retained its pictures during startup cleanup.
Separated import refreshes from drafts. Limited import-retry snapshots to project and folder-access state.
Bounded readiness checks. Made toolchain probes asynchronous with deadlines and added ~/.local/bin to executable discovery.
Validation: static tracing of the complete incremental diff and its regression tests. Exact-head Linux and macOS build gates and formal verification are green. Local tests were not run because the required testing-doctrine fetch returned gh: Not Found (HTTP 404); the inline race is source-traced, not dynamically reproduced. Existing Pullfrog threads are already resolved; the explicitly deferred limits in #206 and #207 are not repeated here.
…d the first state is read again after a restart
From Astra's review of 361b3c5 and Pullfrog's run on it, each with a test that failed first.
- Send takes the composer as it was at the click, even when an earlier autosave was still
on its way. Text typed while it waits stays the next message.
- A quit: the window says at once that it is saving, and Rust then holds the quit until the
window is done (a 60 s ceiling), not for 1.5 s. The window waits for pastes still being
kept and for each send, then saves every screen, those a send just made included, with
allSettled, so one failed save does not end the wait for the others. This closes#206.
- If the first read of the saved state failed, it is read again once the engine is back.
- A picture the person took out and chose again during a send stays in the next draft.
- Two pictures whose names differ only in case get two copies.
- The missing-uv test runs with an empty PATH.
The models' hash of chat.ts is recorded again. TLC: every verdict as recorded.
Closes#206.

✅ No new issues beyond the explicitly tracked follow-ups.
Reviewed changes Reviewed 05144bd since the previous Pullfrog review at 361b3c5.
Captured sends at click. Passed the selected draft through pending autosaves, preserving text typed afterward as the next draft.
Extended quit coordination. Added an immediate saving acknowledgement and a 60-second completion ceiling; awaited pastes, sends, and all screen saves before acknowledging completion.
Recovered startup state. Retried an unsuccessful initial state read when the engine becomes ready.
Preserved re-added pictures. Kept pictures removed and selected again during a pending send, and distinguished case-only filenames when copying attachments.
Updated verification. Added targeted regressions, isolated the missing-uv test PATH, registered the new command permissions, and refreshed the formal source hash.
Validation: source tracing and regression-test inspection. Exact-head Linux CI has passed frontend, sidecar, and Rust tests; macOS has passed frontend and sidecar tests, with later checks still running. Formal verification passed. Local tests were not run because the required testing-doctrine fetch returned gh: Not Found (HTTP 404). The overlapping startup-read picture case is already explicitly tracked in #207.
From Astra's review of 05144bd, with tests that failed first.
- A quit's save the engine refused, as while it restarts, is tried again once the engine
is back, or after 3 s, up to four tries.
- A draft that still cannot be saved calls the quit off. The window answers
studio_flush_failed, never studio_flushed, and names the problem in one line. Rust then
drops the held quit or close, so the app stays open with the draft, and the next quit
asks the window again.
- The quit test now checks that both drafts survive a refused save.
The send path is unchanged.

… saves
From Sol's review of 4798ac3: a send started while the quit waited to try again kept its
screen from saving, so the try reported every save done and the quit went on with the text
typed after that send unsaved. Each try now waits for every send first. The test failed
first.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…n holds what the store holds
From a review of 176fde9: a Send clicked while the quit waited for a save already on its
way still made that try skip the screen, and the quit went on with the newer text
unsaved. The quit now goes round again until no screen sends and none changed since its
last save, and counts only failed saves toward calling the quit off. The test failed
first.

Reviewed changes Reviewed 4798ac3, 176fde9, and cca2035 since the previous Pullfrog review at 05144bd.
Retried failed quit saves. Retried persistence after engine readiness or a bounded delay, retaining the app and displaying an error if saving still fails.
Cancelled unsuccessful quits. Added studio_flush_failed, its command permissions, and Rust handling that cancels held quit/close actions and permits a subsequent attempt.
Required settled drafts before completion. Repeated the send/save barrier until no screen is sending or differs from its saved draft, including sends and edits begun during an earlier wait.
Added regression coverage. Covered restart recovery, send/save overlap, persistent save failure, and a later quit after cancellation.
Validation: source tracing and regression-test inspection. Exact-head Linux CI has passed frontend, sidecar, and Rust tests; macOS has passed frontend and sidecar tests, with later checks still running. Formal verification passed. Local testing stopped because the required testing-doctrine fetch returned gh: Not Found (HTTP 404).
It replaces the 5024e48 video. It adds two scenes, for drafts and sends and for quitting, and the closing proof is now the signed build of cca2035: a 20 mm cube sliced on the Mac mini, and the same build on the MacBook. The brief, the narration, and the stills come from this PR's body and diff. The second-model review (gpt-6.1-sol) came back CLEAN on round 1. ElevenLabs had no credits left, so the narration is the free macOS voice "Reed (English (US))", as before.
Acceptance judge: GPT 6 Astra, the architect whose design won, re-judged the build against its plan and criteria A to L. Verdict: PASS WITH FOLLOW-UPS.
L ran the signed cube-to-3MF job on the Mac mini, not on m5. m5 has no UI-driver grant. The DMG sha256 (c065f140…4502e1) and the app and sidecar CDHashes match across the mini, the m5 smoke, and the MacBook install. Bambu Studio's "damaged" prompt on the mini's copy needed one manual Cancel. That hang is Slicing: the Bambu Studio version check has no time limit, so a held launch hangs the turn #210.
Pi imports span more than one module. The plan said "one module". Astra judged this non-blocking.
Verify skill verify-materialize-3d on dev-substrate, detached checkout of cca2035, run 20261108-023633:
PASS: the start screen shows.
PASS: the engine line reads Engine 0.2.2.
PASS: a start-screen draft survives a relaunch, with the exact text restored.
PASS: the checkout is unchanged by the run.
PASS: the sidecar's store sits in the app data folder (state/store.sqlite, owner.lock).
The tool-list log check found no sidecar line in the log file it picked. That file was the second launch's short log. The tool list (read, write, edit, run, slice, astra) is proven in the m5 smoke of the signed DMG.
