Summary

The transformers5 bundle declares transformers>=5.17,<6, and the saved bundle locks pin that floor exactly. Any image built from main therefore installs transformers 5.17.0, and two models in the bundle cannot run on that lock:

The released v0.10.0 and v0.10.1 transformers5 images were built before the locks existed, and their build logs show transformers 5.19.0. Without this change, the next release would move backwards. EmbeddingGemma 2 (#874) also needs 5.19.

Changes

  • bundles/transformers5.yaml: the floor is now transformers>=5.19,<6.
  • bundles/remote.yaml: the same floor. The chart's remote lane runs the transformers5 image, and the Helm render test requires the two declarations to match.
  • bundle-locks/exceptions.json (cpu-amd64, cpu-arm64, cuda12-amd64):
    • transformers 5.19.0.
    • huggingface-hub 1.33.0, because 5.19 requires >=1.31. The lock stays on the 1.x line, while the v0.10.x images resolved 2.2.0.
    • New hf-xet 1.7.0 and click 8.5.0 records, which that hub release requires. For the transformers5 bundle, click 8.5.0 in bundle-libs shadows the root 8.1.8, as it already does in the v0.10.x images.
  • Recompiled the three transformers5 locks at the existing 2026-10-18T00:00:00Z cutoff. Only those four packages move; every other pin, including sentence-transformers 5.7.0, is unchanged.
  • The README install line and test_transformers_dependency_policy.py follow the new floor.

Testing

  • tools/ci/bundle_lock.py check passes. These tests also pass: SIE_RUN_IMAGE_RESOLUTION=1 test_bundle_image_resolution.py, both test_bundle_lock.py suites, and test_transformers_dependency_policy.py.
  • GPU A/B on one H100. The image follows Dockerfile.cuda12 for BUNDLE=transformers5: a real bundle_lock check, uv pip sync from the saved pylock.toml, then bundle_lock verify. Both arms used the same container, requests and weights; only bundle-libs differed.
model main lock (transformers 5.17.0) this PR (transformers 5.19.0)
lightonai/LightOnOCR-3-4B, transformers profile loads identical text, 0 character errors on 3 rendered pages
perplexity-ai/pplx-decider-v1.1-27b loads byte-identical probabilities, 4 inputs × 3 typed questions
naver/v-splade-quality fails to load (ImportError above) loads; sparse vectors identical to sentence-transformers 5.6.1 on the same lock (max abs diff 0, same rankings)

The other transformers5 models were not re-run here; the v0.10.x transformers5 images already serve them on transformers 5.19.0.

Unblocks #874.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Updates
    • Transformers 5 support now requires version 5.19 or later and remains compatible with versions below 6.
    • Bundled Transformers 5 environments now use Transformers 5.19 and updated supporting packages across CPU and CUDA 12 configurations on amd64 and arm64.
    • The updated version requirement applies to both remote and bundled environments, keeping their supported Transformers versions aligned.

Parakeet-TDT refuses to load below transformers 5.18, and EmbeddingGemma 2
needs 5.19. The saved transformers5 locks pinned the 5.17 floor, so an image
built from them could not load Parakeet. Recompiled the three transformers5
locks at the existing 2026-10-18 cutoff; only transformers (5.19.0),
huggingface-hub (1.33.0), hf-xet (1.7.0) and click (8.5.0) move.

Walkthrough

The Transformers 5 dependency floor changes from 5.17 to 5.19. The CPU amd64, CPU arm64, and CUDA12 amd64 bundle locks and their associated metadata are updated.

Changes: Transformers 5 dependency update

Layer / File(s) Summary
Set the Transformers 5 minimum
packages/sie_server/bundles/transformers5.yaml, packages/sie_server/bundles/remote.yaml, packages/sie_server/tests/config/test_transformers_dependency_policy.py, packages/sie_server/tests/adapters/test_parakeet.py, packages/sie_server/README.md
The bundle requirements and README installation command use a >=5.19,<6 version range. The policy test expects that range, and the Parakeet test checks that the bundle floor meets the adapter’s minimum. The comments identify a Parakeet-TDT constraint below 5.18 and note that v0.10.x images use 5.19.0.
Update target dependency locks
packages/sie_server/bundle-locks/exceptions.json, packages/sie_server/bundle-locks/*-transformers5-*/pylock.toml, packages/sie_server/bundle-locks/*-transformers5-*/manifest.json
The three target locks update Transformers to 5.19.0 and huggingface-hub to 1.33.0, and add click 8.5.0 and hf-xet 1.7.0. The associated requirement descriptions, artifact metadata, and manifest hashes are updated.

Nitpick Add a real Transformers 5.19 test for padded Parakeet batches.

Add a real Transformers 5.19 test for padded Parakeet batches.

The Parakeet version tests replace transformers with a stub and only check the load guard. The grouping test replaces the decode step. The decoder tests use synthetic encoder tensors. No test in test_parakeet.py runs the real encoder on unequal-length inputs with its attention mask and checks that the outputs are finite. A regression in padded-frame handling under Transformers 5.19 would pass this suite.

Add an integration test that loads the real model with Transformers 5.19. Transcribe inputs of different lengths in one batch. Assert that the encoder outputs and transcripts are finite and correct.

The Transformers 5.19 dependency assertion does not exercise padded Parakeet
batches; add an integration test in the Parakeet tests that runs the real model
on unequal-length inputs in one batch. Use a supported way to inspect the real
encoder outputs and verify they are finite, and check that the resulting
transcripts are correct without replacing the encoder or decode step with stubs.

The chart's remote lane runs the transformers5 image, and the Helm render
test requires every remote bundle dependency to equal the image bundle's.

…inimum

The old check only asked that the bundle range admit 5.18; it passed while
the floor (5.17) admitted a release the adapter refuses, and it fails now
that the floor is 5.19. Check the floor itself instead.
