🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Guard against a non-array setting value.
get<string[]> returns the raw user value, and VS Code does not enforce the schema type at runtime. If a user sets xml.languageParticipants to a string or object, for...of can throw. A string value would add single characters as language IDs. An object throws a TypeError. The exception propagates out of update() during initial setup, and out of the configuration listener later. Check Array.isArray first.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Reconfigure the client when language participants change.
update() changes the local participant set, but the running LanguageClient keeps the documentSelector captured during construction. When xml.languageParticipants adds a language after startup, documents with that language can remain outside the selector and receive no XML language-client features. Removed languages can also remain selected.
Subscribe the client to languageParticipants.onDidChange and recreate or reconfigure it with the current selector. Updating only the local set does not fix this path.

Handle scoped requests without a section.
If a configuration item has a scopeUri but omits the optional section, item.section.lastIndexOf('.') throws. The handler then rejects the entire configuration request, including other items in the batch. Handle the absent section before splitting the key, and return the scoped configuration required by that request.

I don't know if you're facing this too, but VS Code seems to be crashing pretty reliable when I try to add a second workspace folder when I try and debug the extension. |
That's strange it is working for me? Have you the same issue with vscode-xml which has been released? |
settings - Change all xml.format.* settings scope from window to language-overridable to enable per-folder and per-language overrides - Add scope to splitAttributesIndentSize and closingBracketNewLine which were missing it - Rewrite ConfigurationRequest handler to support scopeUri with languageId for language-specific overrides (fixes [xml] sections) - Fix configuration resolution to use section prefix so that language-overridable settings (e.g. [axaml]) are properly resolved - Fix old handler bug where non-insertSpaces/tabSize sections returned no result when active editor matched scopeUri, causing array misalignment - Add xml.languageParticipants setting to register custom language IDs without requiring a separate extension - Listen to xml.languageParticipants configuration changes to update document selector dynamically - Document per-folder and per-language formatting overrides - Document xml.languageParticipants setting in Extensions.md Fixes redhat-developer#722, redhat-developer#967, redhat-developer#1047, redhat-developer#1156 Signed-off-by: azerr <azerr@redhat.com>

Return the full configuration for an unscoped item without a section.
If a configuration item omits both scopeUri and section, this branch calls .get(undefined) and returns undefined. The scoped branch handles the missing section, but an unscoped request still loses its configuration result. Return workspace.getConfiguration() when item.section is absent.

I was able to get it working, I think it's the same bug that I've been facing for a while. |
