What and why

Agents could only read the app's own HttpClient calls through devframe_state_read on pangular:http. That returns every page and every server call as one JSON blob, which is hard to scan and easily goes over an agent's context budget.

This adds the read-only agent tool list-http-calls. It answers with a markdown table, newest first. Each row has the side (SSR or client), method, URL, status, duration and flags: mocked, faulted, cancelled, transfer cache hit or skip, and the matched rule.

Arguments:

Argument What it does
page Picks a tab. Without it, the tool lists every reporting tab plus the server. With it, the tool lists that tab plus the server calls of the SSR request that served it. An unknown page answers with the pages that report (unknownPageText).
url Keeps calls whose URL contains the text. It matches the masked URL only.
failed Keeps calls with a status of 400 or more, no response, an error, or a cancel.
limit Defaults to 30, at most 200.
preview Adds each call's masked response preview.

Every call goes through redactCall again before it is written. The output is capped with a note on how to narrow it, and it is marked as untrusted page data. The text builder is a pure module, rpc/http-tools.ts. The tool is registered in AGENT_INSPECTOR (http) and PAGE_AGENT_ENTRIES.

How it was verified

  • pnpm commit:check: 1 commit message OK
  • pnpm format:check: all files use Prettier code style
  • pnpm typecheck: exit 0
  • pnpm test:devtools: 130 files, 1434 tests passed (8 new tests in http-tools.test.ts, 1 new test in agent-tools.test.ts; the docs tool count test now expects 54)
  • pnpm test:panel: not run, app/ is unchanged
  • Docs updated (agents/tools.md, inspectors/ssr-http.md) and pnpm docs:build passes
  • pnpm extension:build: not needed, app/ is unchanged
  • Browser axe check: not needed, no UI change

Notes for reviewers

  • Without page, the tool lists every tab plus the server instead of the most recent tab. Server calls belong to no single tab, and listing them is the main point of the tool. A Page column appears when more than one tab reports.
  • A call counts as failed on status 0 too. The interceptor only records calls once they settle, and status 0 means no response arrived.
  • The url filter matches the masked URL, so the filter can't be used to guess a secret value.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an agent tool for inspecting recorded HTTP calls across pages and server-rendered requests. Filter by page, URL, or failures, limit results, and optionally view response previews.
    • HTTP call reports include status, timing, failure indicators, and masked secrets.
    • Added documentation for the new tool and examples covering HTTP fault rules and TransferState payloads.

Agents could only read the page's own HttpClient calls through
devframe_state_read on pangular:http, which returns every page and
every server call as one JSON blob. That is hard to scan and easy to
blow past a context budget.

list-http-calls answers with a markdown table, newest first: side,
method, URL, status, duration and flags for mocked, faulted, cancelled,
transfer cache hits and the matched rule. It takes page, url, failed,
limit and preview arguments, answers an unknown page with the pages
that report, caps its output, and runs every call through redactCall
again so tokens in URLs, errors and previews stay masked. The url
filter matches the masked URL only.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The devtools package adds a read-only pangular:list-http-calls agent tool. It lists recorded client and server calls with page, URL, and failure filters, optional response previews, and secret masking. The documentation and tests cover the tool and its output.

Changes

HTTP call listing

Layer / File(s) Summary
HTTP call selection and formatting
packages/devtools/src/rpc/http-tools.ts, packages/devtools/src/http-redact.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/http-tools.test.ts
The formatter selects calls for a page and its SSR request, or across all pages and the server. It redacts calls before filtering, orders results newest first, applies a bounded result limit, and can include clipped response previews. Tests cover filters, redaction, limits, and empty states.
Agent tool registration and documentation
packages/devtools/src/devframe.ts, packages/devtools/src/config.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/agent-tools.test.ts, apps/docs/src/content/agents/tools.md, apps/docs/src/content/inspectors/ssr-http.md
The read-only agent tool passes the HTTP snapshot and query arguments to the formatter. Configuration maps it to the HTTP inspector and marks it page-dependent. Tests and docs cover the tool’s behavior and arguments. The agent tools page also updates its tool count and shared-state examples.

Merge Risk | ⚪ Minimal · up to 7eda7

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 7eda7

The new read-only tool provides bounded, redacted HTTP-call reports, and the supplied coverage addresses its key filtering and display behavior. No actionable merge-blocking risk is established.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 7eda7

The read-only report preserves existing access settings and masks sensitive fields before displaying calls. No new security weakness was identified, although end-to-end authorization could not be fully confirmed.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The report's maximum data scope is every reporting page and the server-call collection in the HTTP snapshot, including recorded previews when requested. Page selection narrows that scope but is not a tenant authorization mechanism. Base documentation indicates this aggregate state was already readable; equivalent transport authorization remains unverified.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The new tool uses the existing registration gate, which applies agent configuration and page-tool availability. Its HTTP-inspector mapping allows existing inspector and per-tool settings to govern exposure; the handler only reads a snapshot.
  • observed — Application-controlled URLs, errors, and response previews reach model-facing Markdown. The normal report explicitly labels them as data rather than instructions, escapes table separators, normalizes inline-code delimiters, and alters embedded preview fences. These are presentation safeguards, not proof of downstream instruction isolation.

A fault or mock rule pattern can hold a secret query value, and
redactCall left rulePattern as recorded, so the new list-http-calls
tool could show it to agents in clear. Mask it with redactUrl like the
call URL. Also escape pipes inside table cells so a URL containing one
no longer adds a column.
