ci(repo): test Expo releases before they publish - #10380
Conversation
…request Regular pull requests keep the Native Build check and skip the device tests. The tests run on Blacksmith, and a Verify E2E job reports one check that a ruleset can require.

- Line 322: Update the workflow description to distinguish skipped device tests
from the passing Expo E2E check on regular pull requests. In the Check your work
section, state that PR CI runs every spec only for changeset-release/main.
Review comments at @.github/workflows/verify-e2e.yml:
- Line 19: Update the e2e-tests condition so the changeset-release/main branch
case runs only for pull requests whose head repository matches
github.repository, while preserving the workflow_dispatch case. Use the pull
request head repository identity to exclude fork PRs.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick winRun the result check when
e2e-testsis cancelled.When
e2e-testsis cancelled,cancelled()is true, so this job is skipped before its step readsneeds.e2e-tests.result. Thecancelledresult therefore never becomes a failure, which can leave the required release gate unenforced.Suggested fix

It’s a bit weird that every PR to main now gets an Expo E2E check that passes without running anything, even PRs that never touch Expo. But I think I get why it has to be that way since a required check that never reports would leave every normal PR stuck waiting, so it has to always show up. |
right, that's why. Only the release PR actually runs the tests and every other PRs get an automatic pass so it doesnt get stuck. We'll see if we can improve this (or explore other options) |
Description
Runs the Expo e2e device tests on the Version packages pull request instead of on every Expo pull request, so each release is tested before it publishes. Regular pull requests keep the Native Build check. A new
Expo E2Ejob reports one check that passes when the device tests pass or are skipped, so it can be made required.Checklist
