fix(sso): transfer to sign-up on a bare OAuth callback - #1078
Conversation
Since #872 the SDK only transfers a redirect sign-in to sign-up when the callback carries __clerk_status=failed&__clerk_error_code=external_account_not_found. FAPI returns a bare callback (no nonce, no marker) when a Google account has no Clerk user yet, so new-user OAuth sign-ups were treated as cancellations and never created the account. When a callback has no nonce, no transfer marker and no provider error, reload the sign-in (or sign-up) and use its verification status, as clerk-js does: transferable means transfer, anything else is still a cancellation, so the closed-browser case from #863 keeps cancelling.

- Line 440: Update the refresh handling in the helpers around signIn.reload()
and get() so ClerkResult.Failure is propagated to the pending authentication
result rather than converted to false and reported as SSOCancellationException.
Return false only when a successful refresh shows there is no transferable
verification.

249-310: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winAdd coverage for the bare sign-up callback transfer.
The additions cover bare callbacks only for a pending sign-in. They do not exercise a pending sign-up whose
external_accountverification isTRANSFERABLEand whose callback has no nonce, status, or error. Add a focused test that callsauthenticateSignUpWithRedirect, completes withCALLBACK_URL, and asserts thatsignInApi.createSignInreceivestransfer=trueand the result contains the created sign-in. This protects the newcompleteSignUpRedirectbranch without implying that production behavior currently fails.Suggested fix

A failed sign-in reload or sign-up fetch during the bare-callback check was treated as "not transferable" and reported as a user cancellation. Return the failure instead, and cover the sign-up transfer, the non-transferable flow and the failed reload with tests.
Why
New users can't sign up with Google (or any OAuth provider) through the browser redirect on Android. The flow comes back to the app and silently resets to the start screen, and no user is created.
Since #872,
completeAuthenticateWithRedirectonly transfers a sign-in to sign-up when the callback carries__clerk_status=failed&__clerk_error_code=external_account_not_found. In practice FAPI returns a bare callback for an external account with no Clerk user: norotating_token_nonceand no transfer marker. With debug logging on, from a real device against a development instance on 1.1.11:The SDK treats that callback as a cancellation, so the transfer never happens.
What changed
When a callback has no nonce, no
__clerk_statusmarker and no providererror/error_description, the SDK now reloads the in-flight resource and uses its verification status, as clerk-js does:transferable, it transfers to sign-up. Iftransferable = falsewas passed, it reports the existing "external account not found" failure. Any other status is still a cancellation.external_accountverification istransferable, it transfers to sign-in. Otherwise it's a cancellation. The explicit markers and nonces are handled exactly as before. Closing the browser in #863 still cancels: the reloaded sign-in isn't
transferable, and a callback carrying a provider error never triggers the reload.Testing
SSOServiceTestcases cover three callbacks. A bare callback where the reloaded sign-in is transferable creates the sign-up. A bare callback where it isn't still cancels. A callback with a provider error cancels without reloading. All 10 SSO tests pass.mavenLocaland a brand-new Google account, the same bare callback now logsHandling sign-up transferand ends with an active session.Summary by CodeRabbit
transferablesetting; transfers are blocked when it is disabled.
