… entry Every viewModel() call in the prebuilt components resolved against the host Activity's store, because none of the NavDisplays installed a ViewModel entry decorator. ViewModels outlived the screen and the component, which is why several were keyed by the current sign-in id and why profile rows shared one ViewModel per type. - Add lifecycle-viewmodel-navigation3 and install the ViewModel store entry decorator on the auth, user profile and organization profile NavDisplays. - Give AuthView, UserProfileView, OrganizationProfileView, UserButton, OrganizationSwitcher and OrganizationListView their own ViewModelStore, kept across configuration changes and cleared when the component leaves composition. - Key email, phone, connected account and MFA row ViewModels per row, and pass the passkey section's ViewModel to its rows explicitly. - Drop the sign-in-id / session-id ViewModel keys and the on-dispose reset in the organization action confirmation, which per-entry stores replace.
Preparing the verification code returned the still-unverified sign-up as a success state. The screen routed it like any other step, and since the next step is verifying that same field, a second copy of the code screen was pushed on top of the first. A successful prepare now leaves the state untouched.
…ff-screen ClerkViewModelStoreScope cleared the component's store on every dispose, but the scope key and the component's inner back stack are saved state. When the host's navigation took the component off-screen and brought it back (a NavHost destination, a saved bottom-nav tab, a Navigation 3 entry that is no longer on top), the restored back stack got fresh ViewModels and in-flight work was lost. The store is now only cleared on dispose when the surrounding SaveableStateRegistry did not save the scope key as part of that disposal. A saved scope lives until the host clears the parent store (its entry is popped or the Activity finishes).
…se the fix SignUpCodeDoublePushTest stubbed prepareVerification, which the ViewModel no longer calls, so the stub never fired and the test passed vacuously. It now stubs sendEmailCode/sendPhoneCode, covers both fields and verifies the call. It fails when the double-push fix is reverted. UserProfileEmailRowViewModelTest looks the first row's ViewModel up by its key instead of relying on store key order, and asserts per-row error counts.
…e their saved-state handles A scope saved during disposal now keeps its store only when the parent ViewModelStoreOwner is a per-destination store. Under the view tree's owner (the Activity or Fragment) it is cleared on dispose, so a default Navigation 3 NavDisplay popping the entry no longer leaks the component's ViewModels. Scoped owners now report themselves as the ViewModelStoreOwner in their creation extras, so sibling scopes get separate SavedStateHandles. Also drops comments that explained our own code and gives the sign-up code double-push test a phone-unverified fixture.
…nd pass passkey actions as callbacks Only the Activity's store outlives a destination the host has discarded, so treat a parent as long-lived exactly when its store is the Activity's store, whichever owner provides it. A Fragment's store is cleared when the Fragment is destroyed, so a scope saved under it is kept until then and in-progress input survives Fragment back-stack navigation again. Resolve the component stores with ViewModelProvider instead of viewModel() in a composable, and stop forwarding the passkey ViewModel to each row.

Evaluate configuration status when disposal runs.
The proposed activityIsChangingConfigurations value would be captured during composition and can be stale when DisposableEffect.onDispose runs. Read the Activity reference during composition, but evaluate activity.isChangingConfigurations inside onDispose. Keep the parentClearsKeptStore guard so only non-Activity parent stores are retained.

Why
Architecture review finding #10: prebuilt UI ViewModels live in the host Activity. None of the three
NavDisplays used a ViewModel entry decorator, so everyviewModel()call in the prebuilt components resolved against the Activity's store. ViewModels outlived their screen and their component, and the code had grown workarounds for that: ViewModels keyed by the current sign-in id, resets on dispose, and unkeyed per-rowviewModel()calls. Every email row in the profile shared one ViewModel, so one row's failure was reported by every row. MFA rows shared one too, so a backup-code regeneration was handled by each row. This is PR 1 of 2. The second PR (stacked on this one) replaces the scattered auth routing with one pure function.
It also includes the small ticket "the sign-up code screen may be pushed twice". I reproduced it with a failing test, so it gets its own commit here.
Scope
androidx.lifecycle:lifecycle-viewmodel-navigation3:2.10.0(same lifecycle version as the rest of the catalog) and installrememberViewModelStoreNavEntryDecoratornext to the default saveable-state decorator on the auth, user profile and organization profileNavDisplays (rememberClerkNavEntryDecorators). A screen's ViewModels are now cleared when its entry is popped.ClerkViewModelStoreScopegives each root component its ownViewModelStore:AuthView,UserProfileView,OrganizationProfileView,UserButton, bothOrganizationSwitcheroverloads andOrganizationListView. The store is held by a ViewModel in the parent store, so it survives configuration changes. It is cleared when the component leaves composition for good, using the sameisChangingConfigurationscheck the nav3 decorator uses. It is not cleared when the host saves the component's state as it disposes it and the parent store is not the Activity's store (aNavHostdestination navigated away from, a Navigation 3 entry with a per-entry ViewModel store that is no longer on top, a Fragment on the back stack): the scope key and inner back stack come back with it, so their ViewModels must too. That store is cleared when the host clears the parent store instead (the host entry is popped, the Fragment is destroyed). When the parent store is the Activity's store, whichever owner provides it, nothing would clear a kept store before the Activity finishes, so the scope is cleared on dispose even when its state was saved. Scoped owners also report themselves as theViewModelStoreOwnerin their creation extras, so two scopes never share aSavedStateHandle. Screens rendered outside aNavDisplay, like the profile detail overlay, sheets and the switcher, also stop leaking into the Activity. EachNavDisplay's decorator holder lives in its own component's store, so nested components (for exampleUserProfileViewshowingAuthViewto add an account) no longer share one.Style.viewModelKey()). The passkey rows still use the section's ViewModel, because the section reports their errors. The section now passes each row anonClickRemovecallback instead of the ViewModel (lint'sComposeViewModelForwarding).forgot-password-<signInId>,sign-in-code-<signInId>-<isSecondFactor>andreset-password-<signInId>/session-task-reset-password-<sessionId>keys (ResetPasswordMode.viewModelKey()). Each of these screens is its own back-stack entry now. The old keys could also swap the ViewModel mid-screen when the current sign-in changed.DisposableEffect { onDispose { reset() } }inOrganizationProfileActionConfirmationView, which is always a nav entry.SignInFactorCodeViewImpl: I extracted the "use another method" button. Its detekt baseline entry was keyed on the old signature (which contained the removed key helper), so I shortened the function below the limit and deleted that baseline entry instead of rewriting it.SignUpCodeViewModel.preparereturned the still-unverified sign-up asSuccess.SignUpafter sending the code.AuthStateEffectsroutes every success state, and the next step for that sign-up is verifying the same field, so a second copy ofSignUpCodewas pushed on top of the first. That happened on entry and again on every resend. A successful prepare now leaves the state alone; failures still surface. The email-link redirect branch is unchanged.Resets that stay, and why
Most of the remaining
reset()/resetState()call sites (about 45) consume one-shot results: they reset after acting onSuccess/Errorso the effect does not fire again. Per-entry stores don't replace these. A screen stays on the back stack, with its ViewModel, while the next screen is shown, and its effect would replay when the user comes back. Replacing them needs one-shot event channels, which is a separate change. Others that stay on purpose:UserProfileDeleteAccountConfirmationViewon-dispose reset and theUserProfileVerifyBottomSheetContenton-open reset: these live in bottom sheets inside a nav entry, and the sheet can be reopened on the same entry.UserProfileVerifyViewreset onmodechange: it is a public composable and can be hosted outside aNavDisplay.OrganizationListView/OrganizationSwitcherreset(); load()on session or user change: these are data refreshes, not leak guards.Blast Radius
lifecycle-viewmodel-navigation3, already a transitive constraint of the lifecycle BOM).ComponentViewModelStores) per Activity.Saverrunning in the same main-thread message as the dispose (aSaveableStateHoldersaves an entry in its own dispose callback, just before its content's). It only keeps the store when the parent store is not the Activity's store, so a default Navigation 3NavDisplay(no ViewModel decorator), aLazyColumnitem or a tab under the Activity's store clears the component's ViewModels on dispose. The inner back stack still comes back with the saved state; only the ViewModels, and the input they hold, are new. The public KDoc onAuthView,UserProfileViewandOrganizationProfileViewsays this. Fragment hosts keep the ViewModels while the Fragment is on the back stack, as they did onmain. Before API 28,onSaveInstanceStateruns in the same message asonStop, so a disposal insideonStopcan be mistaken for a host save. That only defers clearing until the per-destination parent is cleared.LocalViewModelStoreOwneris absent (previews, some snapshot hosts), the scope and the ViewModel decorator are skipped and behavior is unchanged.AuthView.ktandUserProfileView.ktare re-indented by the new wrapper, so review with "hide whitespace". fix(ui): persist auth-start identifier edits with apply() instead of commit() #1015 (AuthState editor calls) does not touch these files. Both are fixed: the component stores are resolved withViewModelProvider(parent)insideremember, and the passkey section passes callbacks.ClerkViewModelStoreScopeTest: a component's ViewModels are cleared when it leaves composition and recreated when it returns; sibling components don't share ViewModels; aNavDisplayentry's ViewModel is cleared on pop and the root's is kept; a component (and its inner back stack's ViewModels) survives host navigation forward and back and is cleared when its host entry is popped; a component in a saved tab survives tab switches (the last two fail if the store is cleared on every dispose); a component under the Activity is cleared when a defaultNavDisplaypops its entry (fails without the parent check); a component in a saved tab under the Activity gets new ViewModels after a tab switch; a component under a custom owner that provides the Activity's store is cleared on a tab switch (fails with the previous view-tree-owner check); a save fromonSaveInstanceStatedoes not keep a later-removed scope; sibling scopes get separateSavedStateHandles (fails without the creation-extras override).ClerkViewModelStoreScopeFragmentTest: a component in a Fragment keeps its ViewModels while the Fragment is on the back stack and clears them when the Fragment is removed; a component in a Fragment that provides the Activity as its owner is cleared when the Fragment goes to the back stack.
