user-message parts are not emitted as assistant output, and that pending tool
updates do not open a tool call until a later non-pending update provides the
tool state.
Review comments at @packages/ai-opencode/src/stream/translate.ts:
- Line 342: Update the message.part.updated handling around the messageRoles
lookup so parts are not emitted when their role is unknown or their messageID is
missing; hold them until the role is known or reject them. Preserve the existing
behavior of skipping parts attributed to user messages.
Review comments at @packages/ai-opencode/tests/translate.test.ts:
- Line 95: Extend the E2E coverage for the behavior tested by “does not expose
user message parts as assistant output” to include user-part and
pending-tool-input flows, following the streaming coverage guidance in
chat.spec.ts or tools-test/. If maintainers have approved an OpenCode exception
instead, document that exception in the E2E guide.

Thanks @duohelingdukele! I reproduced both bugs on main (user prompt echoed as assistant text, pending tool calls streaming {} args) and confirmed this branch fixes them. I trimmed the hand-rolled e2e spec and the dead messageID guard, and added a test for the live streaming path.

The OpenCode adapter could emit user-message parts as assistant output and open tool calls with
{}when OpenCode first reported a tool aspending. This PR waits for the parent message role before translating its parts, skips user messages, and waits for a non-pending tool update before emitting the call.Changes
messageIDuntilmessage.updatedgives the role. Stream assistant parts and discard user parts. Atdone, treat the final message as the assistant reply.doneonce the assistant role is known.Root cause
translateOpencodeStreampreviously translated every part without checking the parent message role. A user message can arrive before the assistant reply, and apendingtool state does not yet contain the actual input.Testing
The OpenCode translator tests passed, and the full CI checks for this PR passed before merge. The full
pnpm run test:prgate was not run locally.Follow-up
A separate review finding about memory retained by cumulative text snapshots is addressed in PR #1862.
