Post from Outpost: clear login, fast no-account error, sponsored accounts - #16
Conversation
…red accounts The login card asks which situation you are in (no account, Farcaster app, wallet, test phrase) and says plainly that Farcaster-app accounts cannot post yet. A phrase or wallet without an account is answered from Optimism (IdRegistry.idOf) in under a second instead of timing out on the node. On a society node with a sponsor, 'I have no Farcaster account' makes a new account in the browser (new phrase or wallet), signs Register, and the host's sponsor pays IdGateway.registerFor ($0.20) from a hot wallet: members only, 2 per member, 20 a day, simulated first, no addresses logged. ./outpost sponsor on|off|status, Caddy routes /sponsor/*. 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winQualify the storage guidance for sponsored accounts.
Line 369 now directs readers to sponsored account creation, but this paragraph still says “Outpost does not buy it.” Sponsored registration includes one storage unit, so a new user receives conflicting setup guidance. State that Outpost buys no extra storage after sponsored registration.

loading while ensuring a feed failure cannot leave either phrase reference set.

Restrict OUTPOST_SPONSOR_DRY_RUN to 0 or 1.
If an operator sets OUTPOST_SPONSOR_DRY_RUN=2, Line 679 accepts it. The sponsor enables dry-run only for "1", so that setting permits paid registrations instead of a simulation. Reject every other value before starting the sponsor.

…etries, wallet switch, phrase cleanup A sponsor that fails to (re)start hands /sponsor/* back to the gate. OUTPOST_SPONSOR_DRY_RUN must be 0 or 1. A damaged counts file stops the sponsor instead of resetting the caps. The page keeps waiting through brief node errors, refuses to sign the app key with a different wallet account than the one registered, and forgets a new phrase once the app key is stored even if the feed fails. The four choices become an option list with a clear selected state; the Farcaster-app, create-account and new-phrase steps sit under a divider. The 12-word warning gets the same red box and icon as the phrase warning. The longer intro moves behind "How does posting work?". On a phone the node pill shortens so the top bar stays one line. Why
A developer testing Outpost through a society invite could read but not post. Every route to posting needs a Farcaster account whose owner key you hold, and the page never said so: "Sign with a wallet (recommended)" only works if your account's key is in a browser wallet, and a phrase without an account timed out after 15 s with "cannot reach node" (the node takes ~55 s to say "not found"). He then tried to make an account in the Farcaster app, which asks for an invite code or an X account.
What changes
Clear login (phase 1)
IdRegistry.idOf) instead of the node. Without the RPC, a node timeout gets a clear message too. Mainnet only (devnet accounts are not on Optimism).[hidden]now wins over.choices { display: flex }(the choice list never actually hid before).Sponsored accounts (phase 2)
Register(free), and the society's sponsor paysIdGateway.registerFor($0.20 = one storage unit, Oct 2026). The page waits for the node to see the new FID, then adds Outpost's app key as usual. No ETH, invite code or X account needed; the account and key are the member's.src/server/sponsor.ts+sponsor-service.ts: members only (gate's members file), caps 2 per member ever and 20 per day (env), every registration simulated first (bad requests cost nothing), one at a time, logs no address/FID/token/IP, keeps only per-member counts.infra/society.sh sponsor-on|off|status,./outpost sponsor on|off|status: wallet key made on the server (0600, kept), Caddy routes/sponsor/*to the sponsor and the rest to the gate.Checks
npm test(new:test/sponsor.test.ts,test/society-sponsor.test.ts),npm run typecheck, npm run build.node --import tsx test/sponsor-live.ts: a client-signed Register passes a liveregisterForsimulation on Optimism (no money spent); a signature for another address is rejected. Not done here: "approve Outpost in the Farcaster app" for existing app accounts (next, after the prize).
