each of the 20 rounds measures both `current` and `without_fastfetch` in
alternating order, rather than collecting one variant’s full batch before the
other. Keep samples grouped by variant and calculate each median after all
rounds are complete.
Review comments at @README.md:
- Line 163: Update the installation instructions to list python3 and git as
prerequisites for running the installer, and document Delta separately as
required only for the Git presentation. Also state that symlinked .bashrc and
.gitconfig files require manual integration.
Review comments at @scripts/install-symlinks.sh:
- Line 12: Update the DOTFILES_DIR initialization to use the physical path from
pwd -P instead of the logical path from pwd, so its value matches the canonical
path returned by readlink -f in the symlink comparison.
- Around line 5-6: Update the `command -v` checks in the installer to report the
name of whichever required tool is missing before exiting. Check only `python3`
and `git`; do not add `delta` to the installer checks.
Review comments at @scripts/migrate-shell.py:
- Around line 91-94: Update the Git prerequisite handling for migrate_git, which
invokes git config with --fixed-value: either validate that the installed Git
version is 2.36 or later before migration, or document that minimum version as a
prerequisite. Keep the change scoped to enforcing or communicating this
requirement.
- Around line 61-63: Document the `DIRECTORY_LOADER` detection limitation in
`migrate`: raw text inside unreachable constructs can suppress adding `HOOK`,
leaving `.bashrc` without an active fragment source. State that unreachable
loaders require manual integration; preserve the existing detection behavior.
- Around line 66-70: Update the `.bashrc` write in the migration flow to write
the new content to a temporary file in the same directory, preserve the existing
file mode, and atomically replace the target with the completed file. Keep the
existing backup behavior and clean up the temporary file if replacement fails.
Review comments at @tests/install.sh:
- Line 36: Update the assertion in the install test after sourcing dotfiles.sh
to verify the interactive guard by checking that the syu alias is absent in the
noninteractive shell; remove the unrelated CUSTOM_LOCAL check.

12-14: Theevalstatic-analysis findings are false positives.The
evalcalls run output from locally installed tools (zoxide, fzf, starship). Each call is guarded bycommand -v. This is the documented initialization method for these tools, and no untrusted input reaches it. No change is needed.

87-115: The temporary directory used for the draft may confuse the include check.
str(include) not in existing.stdout.splitlines()compares paths exactly. An existing include written with~or a different but equivalent path creates a second include. The result is a duplicate, harmless include. The behavior is safe, so no change is required.scripts/install-symlinks.sh (1)
26-26: A failed migration leaves the install untouched, which matches the stated intent. No change is needed.

Write Bash startup configuration atomically and preserve its mode. Canonicalize checkout paths, report missing installer prerequisites, and document supported Git versions and manual integration limits. Interleave measurement variants and strengthen regression coverage for failure paths and noninteractive loading. Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com>

Reviewed all eight current CodeRabbit threads and patched them in b5912ae. Local regression tests, failure-path tests, benchmark-order checks, and the interactive-guard mutation check passed; current-head GitHub CI is green. The Git minimum is documented as 2.30+, verified against Git's tagged documentation, rather than the suggested 2.36. The subprocess injection findings do not apply to these argument-list calls without shell=True; tool-init eval calls consume installed local tools' shell initialization. No auth, credential, or exception framework was added to suppress scanner warnings. Explicit check=False now documents intentionally handled Git status codes. Live startup/configuration files remain unchanged. The literal loader detection limitation remains documented and requires manual integration for unreachable loaders. |
Problem
Developer shell and Git presentation settings live outside the repo. Installation fails on dangling symlinks, and repeated installation through a symlinked checkout creates unnecessary backups. Direct Bash startup writes can leave partial files on failure.
Summary
Track guarded interactive Bash and Git presentation fragments; preserve local identity and differing overrides. Migrate recognized legacy settings with backups and an atomic Bash replacement that preserves permissions. Canonicalize checkout paths, report missing installer tools, and document Git 2.30+ plus manual integration limits. Interleave the documented benchmark's variants and label historical batched samples as potentially biased.
Tests
Local full regression suite passed: three Bash suites and ten Python cases. New checks cover atomic replacement failure/cleanup, file modes, symlinked checkout idempotency, missing prerequisites, and alternating benchmark order. An independent mutation check confirms the noninteractive alias assertion detects removal of its guard. Python syntax and diff checks passed; current-head CI is green.
All eight original CodeRabbit threads were independently validated, patched, replied to, and resolved in b5912ae. Git's v2.30.0 documentation disproves the suggested 2.36 minimum for --fixed-value. No current-head follow-up CodeRabbit review is claimed: the free OSS allowance is exhausted.
Risks and rollback
Targets main; preceding stack changes are already merged. Live shell/Git files and system settings were not changed. Symlinked startup files and unreachable/customized loaders require manual integration. Delta is a separate presentation prerequisite. Restore the printed backups to undo installation. No merge performed.
