Summary

POST /api/plans let a scoped user create a plan (including an enabled auto-purchase plan) whose target_accounts lie outside their allowed_accounts.

Root cause

createPlan gated on create:plans, UUID shape and provider match only. No account-scope check ran on target_accounts, unlike PUT /api/plans/:id/accounts, which already uses requirePlanAccountsAccess.

Fix

  • Extract the account-batch half of requirePlanAccountsAccess into requireAccountsAccess (internal/api/scoping.go). Unrestricted callers still short-circuit before any store lookup; refusals are the enumeration-safe errNotFound.
  • createPlan calls it right after validateTargetAccounts, before CreatePurchasePlan, so no orphan plan row is written.
  • Plan update: updatePlan/patchPlan never read target_accounts; account re-pointing goes through setPlanAccounts, already guarded on both axes. No change needed there.

Regression test

internal/api/plan_accounts_scope_test.go: TestCreatePlan_ScopedCallerCannotTargetOutOfScopeAccount, TestCreatePlan_ScopedCallerMixedTargetsRefusedWhole, plus in-scope and unrestricted controls. The store is wired so the request succeeds without the guard. Pre-fix run: both refusal tests FAIL ("An error is expected but got nil"), controls pass.

Verification

  • go test -race -short ./internal/api/: 2372 passed
  • go vet ./internal/api/, gofmt -l: clean
  • golangci-lint v2.10.1 run ./internal/api/...: 0 issues
  • gocyclo: createPlan at 10 (gate is >10)
  • go mod tidy -diff: empty

Closes #95

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Plan creation now checks that you can access every selected target account before saving the plan. Requests containing an inaccessible account are rejected, including mixed batches, and no plan or account associations are saved. In-scope accounts and callers with unrestricted access remain supported.

…wed_accounts

POST /api/plans checked only create:plans, UUID shape and provider match,
so a scoped user could create an auto-purchase plan for an account they
hold no entitlement to. Extract requireAccountsAccess from
requirePlanAccountsAccess and run it in createPlan before the plan row is
written. updatePlan/patchPlan cannot change target_accounts, and
PUT /api/plans/:id/accounts already uses requirePlanAccountsAccess.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

createPlan now checks whether the caller may access each requested target account before creating the plan. Out-of-scope requests return an access error without writing the plan or its account associations.

Plan account scope

Layer / File(s) Summary
Account access helper
internal/api/scoping.go
requirePlanAccountsAccess checks plan access, then delegates account checks to requireAccountsAccess. Unrestricted sessions bypass account store lookups.
Create-plan scope enforcement
internal/api/handler_plans.go, internal/api/plan_accounts_scope_test.go
createPlan checks access to requested target accounts before creating the plan. Tests cover out-of-scope and mixed requests, in-scope requests, and unrestricted callers.

Change: Bug fix · Severity of issue fixed: High

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 8d5f2

Plan creation now correctly refuses target accounts outside the caller's scope. Missing and out-of-scope accounts both return not-found. The remaining concern is efficiency: requests with many target accounts repeat the scope lookup once per account. The change is mergeable with that follow-up.

🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Reuse the resolved scope for the full batch.

For a scoped request with N target accounts, requireAccountsAccess resolves allowed once, but requireAccountAccess resolves it again for every account. This makes N+1 GetAllowedAccountsAPI calls before plan creation. validateTargetAccounts does not limit the account count. Fetch each account and check it against the existing allowed value to avoid repeated authorization work on large requests. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Independent adversarial review (Opus 5.5) at 8d5f264: MERGE. createPlan now checks target_accounts via requireAccountsAccess before the row is written; the only other plan-accounts writer (setPlanAccounts) was already guarded; an empty list is a 400 before the scope check. The refactor preserves requirePlanAccountsAccess behavior. Pre-fix: both refusal tests fail on main. go test -race -short ./internal/api 2372 pass, golangci-lint v2.10.1 clean; CI 25/25.
