Closes #108
Part of #105

What

The store held secrets only. It now holds the whole roster.

  • lanes list|show|add|edit|enable|disable|retire|clone|rename|history. Every write validates the resulting roster with validate_config() inside the transaction, so a refusal carries load_config()'s own message and nothing is half-written. Names are unique case-insensitively, matching --lanes.
  • Only a config or key_entry change is a new lane_versions row. Rename (writes an alias), enable/disable and notes are not. Clones start inactive.
  • defaults and globals show|set|unset; globals are type-checked.
  • db export (JSON, no secret values, keeps lane_id) and db import --merge|--replace. Export, import --replace, export is byte-identical, into the same store or an empty one.
  • import-yaml PATH [--dry-run] [--pull-secrets]. Runs load_config() first, so the YAML Off case (A lane named Off, No, Yes or On is coerced to a YAML boolean #29) is refused identically. Comments become notes; --dry-run prints them. --pull-secrets reads every value before any write. Re-running is a no-op.
  • Migration 2 adds lanes.position for roster order. rowid is not stable across VACUUM on a table without an INTEGER PRIMARY KEY. This shifts the metrics migration the epic reserved to number 3.
  • tests/fixtures/ci-roster.json, examples/roster.example.json, and a CI step that imports the fixture and diffs the export.

Run path

Unchanged. load_config() and fetch_keys() still read YAML and pass until #109.

Verified

  • 224 tests pass on Python 3.11 and 3.14.
  • Live on makemake: db init, then import-yaml --pull-secrets of the real config. 18 lanes (11 active) and 9 secrets. The store's lanes, globals and order equal load_config() of the YAML, every secret decrypts to its pass value, and no value appears in the db, -wal or -shm bytes.

…ort/import, import-yaml (#108)

The store could hold secrets but not lanes. It now holds the whole roster:

- lanes list|show|add|edit|enable|disable|retire|clone|rename|history.
Every write runs validate_config() on the resulting roster inside the
transaction, so a refusal carries load_config()'s own message and leaves
nothing half-written. Names are unique case-insensitively, as --lanes
  matches them.
- Only a change to config or key_entry is a new lane_versions row. Rename
(which writes an alias), enable/disable and notes are not, so a lane's
record follows the lane rather than its name. Clones start inactive so,
once runs read the store, a clone cannot silently double a paid lane.
- defaults and globals show|set|unset; globals are type-checked.
- db export (JSON, no secret values, lane_id kept so a lane has one identity
on every host) and db import --merge|--replace. export -> import --replace
-> export is byte-identical, into the same store or an empty one.
- import-yaml PATH [--dry-run] [--pull-secrets]: load_config() runs first,
so the YAML `Off` name (#29) is refused the same way. Comments above a
lane and trailing ones on active:/key_entry: become its notes; --dry-run
prints them. --pull-secrets reads every value before writing anything.
  Re-running is a no-op.
- Migration 2 adds lanes.position: roster order matters, and rowid is not
stable across VACUUM for a table without an INTEGER PRIMARY KEY.

Still no change to the run path: load_config() and fetch_keys() read YAML
and pass until #109.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Manage lane rosters in the encrypted database: add, edit, rename, clone, retire, and review lane history.
    • Import and export rosters as JSON, or import YAML with a preview and optional secret import. Configure defaults and global settings, with validation and rollback for invalid changes.
    • Access a sample roster and updated guidance for lane management.
  • Improvements

    • Database health checks now report live and active lane counts.
    • Automated checks verify roster import, export, listing, and YAML preview.

Walkthrough

The store now supports persistent lane administration, roster JSON export and import, and migration from YAML. The changes also add schema migration, command validation, documentation, example rosters, integration tests, and CI checks.

Changes

Lane roster in the store

Layer / File(s) Summary
Roster storage and lane administration
roundtable, README.md, tests/test_roundtable.py
The store adds persisted lane ordering and transactional roster validation. Lane commands manage configuration, defaults, globals, aliases, retirement, cloning, and version history. Tests cover lifecycle operations, validation, and schema migration.
Roster export, import, and command wiring
roundtable, tests/test_roundtable.py, tests/fixtures/ci-roster.json, examples/roster.example.json, .github/workflows/ci.yml, BACKLOG.md
Database commands export and import roster JSON. Export omits secret values; import supports merge and replace. The admin parser, example rosters, tests, CI checks, and backlog reflect the new commands and roster format.
YAML migration and validation
roundtable, README.md, tests/test_roundtable.py
The YAML import converts configuration into a roster, extracts lane notes from comments, supports dry runs, and can pull missing secrets. Tests cover conversion, repeat imports, comment handling, secret pulling, and command recognition.

The new roster commands work, with some gaps. Some malformed imports are accepted or fail with a traceback. An export written over an existing file keeps its old permissions. Lane notes can pick up comments from later YAML sections. None of these affects the run path yet. All are small fixes and are worth making before or soon after merge.

Explanation

#108 requires PyYAML to be imported lazily inside import-yaml. At the reviewed head, roundtable imports yaml at module scope and exits if it is unavailable. This does not meet that requirement. The PR description and change summary otherwise report the requested roster commands, validation, versioning, export/import, YAML migration, fixtures, and tests.

- db import refuses a non-bool active and non-string notes/key_entry/lane_id
before writing: bool("false") is True, and an active lane bills once runs
  read the store.
- Reviving a retired lane whose name a newer live lane holds now dies with
the duplicate-name message instead of an IntegrityError traceback.
- db export --out chmods an existing file to 0600; O_CREAT's mode applies
  only to a new one.
- The last lane's trailing-comment scan stops at the end of lanes:, so a
later section's comment cannot land in its notes.
- import-yaml runs the same document checks as db import, so a YAML
key_entry of 123 or "or key" is refused.
