Plans for continuity camera? #172

Open

Description

@icyphox

I love using my iPhone as a camera while at my desk, for video calls etc. Are there plans to support this?

    No plans, but this looks to be in the same family as: #162 (comment)

    In fact after a quick look I think doing this before Mirroring is 100% the way to go. It looks significantly easier and paves the way for Mirroring.

    Thanks for the idea!

    See note here about why "real" Continuity Camera is not possible: #162 (comment)

    However, tether could:

    1. iPhone app streams video to linux over the same TLS connection used today
    2. Linux app decode the video and publish a PipeWire video source
    3. OBS / Zoom / Chromium / Firefox use that PipeWire video source and it feels like a webcam

    Big project but doable.

    That sounds like a reasonable way to go about it!

    Just to mention Droidcam achieves this feature, but the software seems to be proprietary. Certainly doable though.
