Domains
Domains are namespaces, and they’re central to our backend.
Namespaces are used because you don't want your data mixed with other's data.
The game itself (the one you're developing) could be the namespace, but what if you’re building an ecosystem of games instead of a single game? How will you allow common leaderboards, or user’s data storage, or anything to work cross-game? Domains are our answer to this problem.
Private or shared?
Every game has a so called private domain, where nothing is shared with other games. But it’s easy to create new domains to use with our APIs to store data and access it from different games, with all the security you can expect (Access Control Lists). Use the FrontOffice Application for this at (https://account.clanofthecloud.com).
Since domains are used everywhere in our APIs, you have nothing complex to do when you decide something should be shared instead of private: just change the domain where it's stored!
Maybe you could achieve the same result by mixing everything in a single namespace, but domains let you organize things clearly and separate what’s really private to a game and what must be shared.
