Summary

  • Extend the existing Changes tab with draft selection, commit message, Account Git identity, and Commit / Commit & Push actions against the real Git workflow API contract.
  • Surface validation blocks, warning acknowledgement, missing identity (with a direct settings link), and plain-language remote-changed / rejected-push states without inventing client-only overrides.
  • Add Playwright coverage for diffs, the commit form, identity, validation, commit success, mocked push success/failure, preserved drafts, mobile layout, and axe checks.

Test plan

  • pnpm check
  • pnpm build
  • E2E_GIT_REMOTE=https://github.com/docker/awesome-compose.git E2E_STACK_ROOT=nginx-golang pnpm test:e2e
  • Manual: save a draft → Changes → commit with identity set → confirm short SHA toast and drafts still listed
  • Manual: unset/missing identity shows settings link (no raw git_identity_missing dump)
  • Manual: Commit & Push when remote moved shows fetch guidance and keeps drafts

Made with Cursor

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Review and select drafts, validate changes, and commit using the Git identity set under Account. Warnings must be acknowledged before committing.
    • Push commits, retry a retained commit after a push failure, or discard drafts. Drafts remain available after a successful push until discarded.
    • See when selected drafts are outdated and fetch updates before committing.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the Changes and Drafts guides with commit, push, Git identity, and token permission instructions.
  • Style
    • Improved form controls and made commit actions easier to use on smaller screens.

Wire the Changes tab to the Git workflow API so operators can select drafts, commit with their Account identity, and push or retry with plain-language remote-changed handling.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The Changes pages load Git identity and repository context for the commit interface. The interface supports selecting and validating drafts, committing, pushing, and retrying a retained commit. End-to-end tests and documentation cover the workflow.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 051bd

The Changes workflow retains actionable failure states and remains usable without a configured Git identity. The prior push-retry and token-guidance concerns are addressed; no concrete merge-blocking risk remains.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 051bd

Repository authorization and safe-push protections remain intact. However, a draft can change after it is reviewed, and the new commit action does not verify that it is publishing the reviewed version. This can also carry warning acknowledgement onto different content.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new commit-and-push workflow does not bind publication to the draft revisions displayed for review. Another permitted saver can replace a selected shared draft before the service reads it; the service then commits the replacement under the committing user's identity. Warning acknowledgement is scoped to displayed timestamps only in browser state and reaches the server as a boolean, so it can authorize warnings in different content. Git head and base-blob checks protect branch consistency, not reviewed-content identity. The underlying path-only API predates this PR, but its use as the Changes review-and-publication action is new.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — Each mutation resolves one configured repository and branch with its workspace-scoped credential. The existing product policy grants active admins access to all workspaces; remote publication uses the configured credential's effective permissions rather than client-supplied credentials.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A permitted draft saver can replace selected content after another user reviews it. A subsequent Commit & Push reads the replacement, attributes it to the committing user, and can publish it through the repository credential. A stale acknowledgement can permit different warning-bearing content. This does not demonstrate cross-repository access or privilege escalation.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Commit and push routes authenticate the session actor. The route wrapper checks mutation origin and validates bounded JSON bodies; the workflow requires an enabled admin. Repository lookup, remote, branch, credentials, and Git author identity are resolved server-side rather than trusted from UI presentation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Provider mutations use repository locking, local-head and base-blob checks, isolated worktrees, cleanup before compare-and-swap ref publication, and retained-head verification. Push re-fetches remote state, checks the expected remote SHA and ancestry, and uses an ordinary non-force SHA-to-branch push. These controls contain Git races but do not bind commits to browser-reviewed draft revisions.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Bind each submitted path and warning acknowledgement to a reviewed draft revision or content hash. Reject mismatches and require refreshed review before committing, while preserving the existing server-side validation and Git concurrency controls.

📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Update the token-permission step. Committing is now available.

Line 83 now says that operators can commit and push from the Changes tab. Lines 25-26 still say that write access "will be needed once committing from stack-manager is available". A token with read access only will fail when the user pushes. Tell users that the token needs write access to push.

📝 Proposed fix

+1. Create an access token on your Git server for the repository. Read access is enough to browse and draft; write

🟠 Major · Keep the retained push action available after the last draft is discarded. · changes-view.tsx:394

src/ui/source/changes-view.tsx:394
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Keep the retained push action available after the last draft is discarded.

If a failed push retains a commit and the user discards the last draft, router.refresh() supplies an empty draft list. This return renders only EmptyState, even though retained still holds the commit. The user can no longer use Push <sha> from this page. Render the commit panel when a retained commit exists, even if no drafts remain.

Addressed the latest CodeRabbit findings in this push:

  • Empty draft list still shows Push <sha> when a retained commit exists
  • Clearing the last selected draft no longer reselects every remaining file (empty selection stays empty; stale paths after refresh still fall back)

🟡 Minor · Do not imply that fetching makes the retained commit retryable. · changes-view.tsx:72-225

src/ui/source/changes-view.tsx:72-225
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Do not imply that fetching makes the retained commit retryable.

When a push returns remote_changed, this alert tells the user to fetch before trying again. Sync only refreshes remote refs. The retained retry resubmits the original expectedRemoteSha, so the provider can reject it again while the remote SHA differs. State that fetching does not reconcile the commit and that manual reconciliation must happen outside the app.

Suggested fix
- Nothing was overwritten and your drafts are still safe. Fetch the latest changes before trying again.

src/ui/source/changes-view.tsx:355-380
🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Block commits with more than 100 selected drafts.

If a fetched repository has more than 100 drafts, the page initially selects all of them. The commit buttons remain enabled and submit every selected path, but the API rejects more than 100 paths. The UI then shows an error instead of committing. Disable submission above the limit and tell users to split the selection into batches.
