Its primary goal is to simplify the process of learning a repository and help you verify your understanding through an interactive interview experience.
GitNerd currently offers two core features:
- Learn Repository: Ask anything about a GitHub repository from its architecture and workflow to individual files, functions, and concepts and receive clear, human-friendly explanations.
- Repository Interview: Once you feel confident, switch to the interview mode where GitNerd asks a series of repository-specific questions to assess your understanding. At the end of the interview, it generates a detailed performance report highlighting your strengths, areas for improvement, and personalized suggestions.
Using GitNerd is simple:

Paste the GitHub repository URL you want to learn. Make sure it's a valid public repository URL and not a private repository or a link to an individual file. Then click Explore Repository.

GitNerd analyzes the repository and displays a brief overview of its purpose. You'll then be presented with two learning modes:
- Learn Repository
- Interview Simulation
- Choose the mode that best fits your goal. GitNerd fetches the repository contents, analyzes the project, and prepares everything for the selected experience. Depending on the repository size, this process typically takes around 30 seconds or more.
Once the repository is ready, you can ask unlimited questions about it. Whether you want to understand the overall architecture, code flow, relationships between modules, specific files, functions, classes, algorithms, or implementation details, GitNerd provides explanations in simple, human-friendly language to help you master the codebase at your own pace.
If you'd like to test your understanding, choose Interview Simulation. GitNerd welcomes you with an introduction and begins asking a series of repository-specific interview questions. Answer each question as you would in a real technical interview. After the interview is complete, GitNerd generates a detailed performance report highlighting your strengths, areas for improvement, and suggestions to help you deepen your understanding of the repository.
