Let passive readers reuse the control loop's meter reading - #698
The Marstek MQTT responder and cloud reporting only report the grid reading. Even so, each of their polls read a polled meter (Shelly, Tasmota, HTTP, Modbus, …) again, on top of the batteries' own polls. Throttling didn't help, because the raw read they used skipped the throttle on purpose. They should add no load to a meter the batteries are already reading.
An explicit passive route.Powermeter.get_passive_watts() (formerly get_powermeter_watts_raw()) is the read for callers that only report the value. Both callers go through main._passive_grid_phases() (formerly _read_grid_phases). Control keeps using get_powermeter_watts().
A new innermost wrapper, LastReadingPowermeter (powermeter/wrappers/last_reading.py), remembers every real read of the source. The passive route then works like this:
Polled meter: it serves the remembered reading while it is at most 5 s old, plus THROTTLE_INTERVAL. The throttle lets control reads through only that often. A negative interval counts as no throttle.
Overlapping reads: with no fresh reading, it first waits for the source reads that were already running when it arrived. These are battery polls, which overlap when no throttle is set, or another passive reader's read. It checks the cache each time one of them ends. Only if nothing fresh is left does it read the source itself, and that read is remembered too.
Reads that start while it waits are not waited for. So a meter that keeps failing under continuous polls answers the passive reader after one read of its own, rather than keeping it waiting for the whole outage.
Control reads stay independent of each other.
Push meter: it passes straight through. Push meters already answer from their cache with no I/O, and passing through keeps each meter's own rule for refusing a stale reading.
Failures: failed or empty reads are not remembered, so an old reading is never served in place of a failure.
Health: a passive read updates the MQTT Insights Online state and the dashboard's last-read status only when that read itself reached the source. A reading served from the cache was already recorded by the read that fetched it. Reads that finished while the passive read waited may also have recorded something newer, such as a failure. Recording the cached reading again would mark a meter that has failed since as healthy. The wrapper tracks this per calling task, so other tasks' reads in the meantime don't count. Failures are always recorded.
Unchanged: the value is still the source's reading before offset, multiplier and the filters, and the filters never see passive reads. Pipeline listings, including the dashboard's Filters row, leave the wrapper out. powermeter_name now walks down to the source, so logs no longer show a wrapper class name.
Behaviour change with a throttle: when THROTTLE_INTERVAL is set, the Marstek app and cloud no longer read the meter live past it. They show readings up to 5 s plus the interval old, and keep the last value that long after a meter fails.
The throttle's own passive override only repeated the base wrapper's delegation, so it's gone.
Firmware: no behaviour change. Its passive readers already read the sensor cache (CT002Component::latest_grid_power()). The unused C++ get_powermeter_watts_raw is deleted so the mirrored symbols stay in step, and CONTRIBUTING.md lists the new wrapper as Python-only.
Verification (head 100709c, on top of the merge of develop at e506f35, the v2.4.0 release sync; each merge conflicted only on CHANGELOG.md, and this change's bullet stays under ## Next)
ruff format, ruff check and mypy src/ are clean.
pytest (with mosquitto and the ESPHome CLI installed) passes with no failures. Skips are limited to the ESPHome-CLI and codegen suites. The C++ host gtests (tests/components/ct002, built against a local googletest) all pass.
CodeRabbit found that a passive read served while it waited could overwrite a newer control-read failure in health. test_passive_read_served_while_waiting_keeps_a_later_failure reproduces this on 22df0e3 and passes here.
A separate regression review reproduced three problems on the previous head: a passive read that never finished during an outage, a cached read marking a failing meter online, and a negative throttle never expiring the cache. Each now has a test that fails on the previous head and passes here. The overlap tests in last_reading_test.py likewise each fail against the wrapper as it was before them.
Before the rebase, esphome compile tests/components/ct002/test.host.yaml succeeded. No C++ has changed since.

Marstek app and cloud reports now reuse recent power-meter readings from the battery’s control loop, reducing unnecessary meter requests.
When no recent reading is available, the system obtains a fresh meter reading for reporting, helping keep reported power data current.
Passive reporting reads no longer add extra polling when a suitable recent reading is available, while meter health tracking continues to reflect reads made directly from the source.

Walkthrough
The change adds a wrapper that reuses recent control-loop readings for passive power-meter reads. Marstek responses and cloud reports now use the passive-reading path. The powermeter API, wrapper configuration, and related tests use get_passive_watts().

The API replaces get_powermeter_watts_raw() with get_passive_watts(). LastReadingPowermeter caches nonempty reads and returns a copy of a fresh cached reading for passive calls. Push meters delegate passive reads to their source. Tests cover freshness, fallback reads, errors, reset, returned copies, and concurrent reads. The ESPHome raw-reading methods are removed.

Signal setup adds LastReadingPowermeter inside the transform and throttle wrappers, with max_age set to the default age limit plus the nonnegative signal throttle interval. Health reporting excludes the cache wrapper from its pipeline list and tracks passive reads that reach the source. Meter naming unwraps all PowermeterWrapper layers. Tests check the wrapper order, health outcomes, and configured maximum age.

Marstek and cloud reporting use _passive_grid_phases, which calls get_passive_watts(). Tests check reuse after a control read and a source read when no cached reading exists. The changelog describes the reporting change, and the parity guidance identifies the Python-only wrapper and the ESPHome passive-reading method.

The reuse of the control loop's reading hid behind get_powermeter_watts_raw,
so nothing at the Marstek responder or cloud reporting said their reads were
passive. Rename it get_passive_watts, and _read_grid_phases to
_passive_grid_phases, and document the route on the base class. The
throttle's override only restated the base wrapper's delegation, so it goes.
The unused C++ get_powermeter_watts_raw is deleted to keep the mirrored
symbols in step.

A passive read that found no fresh reading read the source even while a
battery's read of it, or another passive reader's, was still running, so
overlapping reads still cost extra requests. It now waits for the read in
flight and checks the cache again before reading the source itself. A read
that fails leaves nothing behind, so the passive reader still asks the
source and never gets a stale value.

Without a throttle above it, battery polls can overlap on the wrapper. It
only remembered the newest read, so when that one came back empty or failed
first, a passive reader no longer saw the older read still running and
started a request of its own. Keep every read in flight in a set and have a
passive reader wait until none is left before reading the source.

The regression review found two problems with the passive route.
A passive reader waited for every read of the source in flight, re-checked
on each pass. With battery polls overlapping and a polled meter down, a new
read was always running, so the Marstek responder or cloud report waited for
as long as the outage lasted. It now waits only for the reads it found
running, then reads the source itself, so the failure surfaces after one
timeout of its own.
The health wrapper recorded every passive read as an attempt, so a reading
served from the cache flipped a meter the control loop had just seen fail
back to online. It now records a passive read only when the source answered
it, which LastReadingPowermeter.source_reads tells it. Failures are still
recorded.
Also clamp a negative THROTTLE_INTERVAL to 0 when sizing the cache window, so
it no longer means a reading reused for ever, and drop the remaining "raw"
from test names.

A passive read waiting on overlapping battery reads can be served the one
that succeeded after another had already failed. The shared read counter
still moved, so the health wrapper recorded the cached success over the
newer failure. Track, per calling task, whether the passive read reached
the source, and record only then.

A passive read that reads the source records the time it started. If a
battery read started after it but finished first, the passive read's
completion moved last_attempt back to its own earlier start, so the
dashboard showed an older read age and MQTT Insights could treat the meter
as idle and probe it again. Only move last_attempt forward.

The previous fix stopped a slow passive read from moving last_attempt back,
but it still overwrote last_outcome_ok, so the recorded age and outcome
could describe two different reads. Record both together, and only when
the passive read is still the latest attempt.
