π‘οΈ Sentinel: [HIGH] Improve XSS sanitization in dashboard
π¨ Severity: HIGH
π‘ Vulnerability: The
escfunction used a DOM-based approach (textContenttoinnerHTML) for HTML escaping, which is vulnerable to mutation XSS (mXSS) depending on the browser, fails on specific null byte inputs, and performs slower due to direct DOM manipulation.π― Impact: This could allow an attacker to execute malicious scripts in the dashboard UI if they can bypass the basic
textContentescaping, leading to potential account takeover or data exfiltration.π§ Fix: Replaced the DOM-based
escfunction with a robust regex-based approach that correctly escapes all necessary characters (<, >, &, ', ") inpublic/dashboard/app.jsandpublic/js/persona-page.js.β Verification: Ran the test suite (
npm run test:gate) and verified the UI renders correctly without any regressions. Added a journal entry to.jules/sentinel.mddocumenting the learning.PR created automatically by Jules for task 5719637837248392325 started by @tody-agent
