What

The hosted MCP server is getting a free create_upload_url tool in sonilo-ai/sonilo-api-dashboard#407. It returns a presigned PUT URL plus a file_url that every hosted tool accepts as a media or subtitle URL.

The workflow skill currently tells Codex that a local file is not a public URL and to ask for an HTTPS link. With that wording the new tool would go unused in Codex. This PR adds a Use a local file section to SKILL.md:

  1. Upload only a file the user named, and say it goes to temporary storage on their Sonilo Platform account.
  2. Call create_upload_url with the filename and exact byte size.
  3. PUT the bytes to upload_url (curl -T), with no authorization header.
  4. Pass file_url as the tool's URL input.

If the tool is not connected or the PUT cannot be made, the skill falls back to asking for a public HTTPS URL. Uploading a user's file to any third-party host stays prohibited, and upload_url is treated as a credential that is never shown to the user.

The routing table and the README's local-file note are updated to match.

Decisions for the reviewer

  • Base branch: this targets codex/plugin-v1.1.0, not main, because that branch holds the current skill and has no open PR of its own. Merging changes the skill text that the 1.1.0 submission was reviewed with, so it may belong in a later version instead.
  • Not done here: no version bump in plugin.json, no rebuilt dist/ zips, no change to the skill's frontmatter description or the listing copy.
  • Tool visibility: I have not confirmed whether a published plugin picks up a new hosted tool without resubmission to OpenAI.

Merge order

Merge after sonilo-api-dashboard#407 is deployed. The section is conditional on create_upload_url being among the connected tools, so before that it has no effect.

Testing

  • python scripts/check_release.py: PASS (local checks). All strings the check requires are still present.
  • Not tested in Codex itself.

The hosted MCP server gains a free create_upload_url tool
(sonilo-api-dashboard#407). The workflow skill told Codex to refuse a
local file and ask for a public HTTPS URL, which would leave the new
tool unused.

Add a "Use a local file" section: upload only a file the user named,
PUT it to the returned upload_url, pass file_url as the tool input,
and fall back to asking for a public URL when the tool is missing or
the PUT cannot be made. Uploading to any third-party host stays
prohibited.

The 1.2.0 draft was written from a checkout that predated PR #3 and added
its own local-file section. Keep PR #3's "Use a local file" section and
routing row as they are, drop the duplicate, and keep only what 1.2.0
adds on top: the generate_video_subtitles rename, the proofread
service-key note, and the release-check guards, now matched to PR #3's
wording.
