Needs Review

I recommend reviewing this upgrade before merging because a failing external CI check from Snyk (security/snyk) cannot be analyzed due to inaccessible logs, which prevents a confident 'safe' determination per policy. The dependency itself is a build-time-only Roslyn analyzer declared with <PrivateAssets>all</PrivateAssets> across all three .csproj projects, meaning it has zero runtime impact. The patch-level bump introduces no API surface changes affecting the codebase. The Trivy security scan failure is a confirmed transient infrastructure issue (AWS ECR rate-limiting on the vulnerability DB download) entirely unrelated to this upgrade; re-running the job or switching to the GitHub Container Registry mirror for Trivy DB should resolve it. No security vulnerabilities have been validated for the version range covered by this upgrade. The upgrade appears low-risk, but the unanalyzable Snyk failure requires a manual check before merging.

Tip: Comment @fossabot fix to attempt automatic fixes.

Fix Suggestions

We identified 2 fixable issues in this upgrade.

  • Switch the Trivy DB repository from AWS ECR to the GitHub Container Registry mirror to avoid ECR rate-limiting failures
    Files: .github/workflows/pipeline.yml
  • Manually verify the failing Snyk security/snyk CI check — its logs are inaccessible for automated analysis

# Fix CI Failures for PR #447 (Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.NetAnalyzers Upgrade)

This PR upgrades `Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.NetAnalyzers` (a build-time-only Roslyn analyzer). The code change itself is safe — no runtime impact, no API changes. However, two CI checks are failing and need attention.

## Issue 1: Trivy Scan Failing (AWS ECR Rate-Limiting)

**Problem:** The Trivy vulnerability scanner job in `.github/workflows/docker-image.yml` is failing because AWS ECR is rate-limiting downloads of the Trivy vulnerability database (`public.ecr.aws/aquasecurity/trivy-db:2`) with a `TOOMANYREQUESTS` error. This is a transient infrastructure issue, completely unrelated to the dependency upgrade.

**Current setup (lines 241-256):** The workflow already uses a `TRIVY_DB_REPOSITORY` environment variable sourced from a GitHub repository variable (`${{ vars.TRIVY_DB_REPOSITORY }}`). This means the variable is either not set (defaulting to the AWS ECR source) or is set to the ECR URL.

**Fix — Option A (Recommended): Set the GitHub repository variable**
Go to the repository Settings → Secrets and variables → Actions → Variables tab, and create/update:
- Variable name: `TRIVY_DB_REPOSITORY`
- Value: `ghcr.io/aquasecurity/trivy-db:2`

This requires no code changes and uses the existing `${{ vars.TRIVY_DB_REPOSITORY }}` references already in the workflow.

**Fix — Option B: Hardcode the GHCR mirror in the workflow**
If you prefer not to use repository variables, edit `.github/workflows/docker-image.yml` and replace the env references on lines 247 and 256:

```yaml
# Change both Trivy steps from:
        env:
          TRIVY_DB_REPOSITORY: ${{ vars.TRIVY_DB_REPOSITORY }}
# To:
        env:
          TRIVY_DB_REPOSITORY: 'ghcr.io/aquasecurity/trivy-db:2'
```

This applies to both Trivy scan steps:
1. "Run Trivy vulnerability scanner (cli report)" (~line 247)
2. "Run Trivy vulnerability scanner (sarif report)" (~line 256)

**Fix — Option C: Just re-run the job**
Since this is a transient rate-limiting issue, simply re-running the failed workflow may also work, but it will likely recur.

## Issue 2: Snyk Check Failing (Manual Verification Required)

**Problem:** The external `security/snyk` CI check is failing, but its logs are not accessible for automated analysis. This needs manual verification.

**Action Required:**
1. Go to the Snyk dashboard: https://app.snyk.io
2. Navigate to your organization's project and find PR #447's check results
3. Determine if the failure is:
   - Related to this dependency upgrade (unlikely, since it's a build-time analyzer with `<PrivateAssets>all</PrivateAssets>`)
   - A pre-existing issue unrelated to this PR
   - A transient Snyk service issue
4. If unrelated to this upgrade, the PR is safe to merge after fixing the Trivy issue

## Summary

| Issue | File | Action | Risk |
|-------|------|--------|------|
| Trivy ECR rate-limit | `.github/workflows/docker-image.yml` | Set repo variable or hardcode GHCR mirror | None — infrastructure fix |
| Snyk check failing | N/A | Manual dashboard review | Low — likely unrelated to upgrade |

The dependency upgrade itself (`Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.NetAnalyzers`) is a build-time-only analyzer declared with `<PrivateAssets>all</PrivateAssets>` in all `.csproj` files. It has zero runtime impact and introduces no breaking changes. Both CI failures are infrastructure-related, not caused by the upgrade.

What we checked

  • Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.NetAnalyzers is referenced at version 10.0.402 with <PrivateAssets>all</PrivateAssets>, confirming it is a build-time-only Roslyn analyzer with no runtime footprint. [1]
  • Same build-time-only analyzer reference in the base project, with <IncludeAssets>runtime; build; native; contentfiles; analyzers; buildtransitive</IncludeAssets> and <PrivateAssets>all</PrivateAssets>. [2]
  • Same build-time-only analyzer reference in the test project, confirming the package is used exclusively as a static analysis tool during the build. [3]
  • <EnableNETAnalyzers>true</EnableNETAnalyzers>, <AnalysisLevel>latest</AnalysisLevel>, and <AnalysisMode>All</AnalysisMode> are enabled in all three projects, confirming the analyzer is actively used during builds. A patch-level bump may introduce new or changed analyzer rules, which could surface new warnings if <TreatWarningsAsErrors> is ever enabled (currently commented out). [4]
  • External security/snyk CI check is failing. Logs are inaccessible for analysis. Because Snyk is a security scanner, its failure on a package-version bump warrants manual inspection before merging, even though the dependency is build-time only. [5]

Changes

Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.NetAnalyzers was updated with 2 security fixes, including migration of engineering feed authentication to Workload Identity Federation (WIF) to replace legacy credential mechanisms. The remaining changes are infrastructure and source-sync updates with no breaking changes or new analyzer features.

Looks like these dependencies are no longer updatable, so this is no longer needed.
