The web, webOS and desktop builds run one shared player (webos-player/index.html); Android is a native app with the same screens.

What it does

• Add-ons. Point it at an add-on and its catalogs, title pages, streams and subtitles show up. Several add-ons combine into one row of streams, labelled by resolution, size and language.
• Playback. Adaptive and encrypted streams play natively. The player shows the source you are watching from under the title, time pills at both ends of the scrubber, and one centred toolbar: Next, Subtitles, Audio, Quality, Speed, Sleep, Party. Subtitles open a full panel: languages with counts, each language's tracks and where they came from, timing and appearance alongside. A picture-quality policy (auto, best available, data saver); picture-in-picture and a desktop mini player.
• The quiet parts. Pause for a moment and a board fades in with the title, synopsis, time left and what plays next. A playback HUD (i) shows resolution, bitrate, buffer and latency the way a TV settings page would, not a debug dump. Live streams get a lag guard and Go live.
• Instant next episode. The player remembers which source you chose for a show and resolves the next episode's stream during the last minutes, so autoplay starts without a source list. Play now skips the countdown.
• Skip intro. A pill appears over an episode's recap and opening titles (OK on a remote, a click elsewhere), or Auto jumps past them for you; the closing credits bring Up next forward. Timestamps come from IntroDB, a community database, looked up per episode through Nebula's own server; Off in Settings never asks.
• Evenings. A sleep timer that pauses after 15–90 minutes or when the episode ends, and survives the hop into the next one. Start over from the streams page or a Continue Watching card. Surprise me picks a random aired episode.
• Series. One page per show: seasons, episodes, air dates, and a watch cursor that knows where you left off.
• My List, Continue Watching, ratings, an upcoming-episode calendar. Home rows can be hidden and reordered in Settings; Search remembers your recent looks.
• Keyboard. ? lists every shortcut on desktop: K/J/L, M, S/A/Q for the pickers, N for the next episode, Z for the sleep timer, I for the HUD, digits to jump, / to search.
• Nebula Profile. An @handle and a password — no email. Add-ons, progress, My List and ratings follow you to every device; a TV signs in with a short code you approve from a phone. A profile is optional; everything works without one.
• Friends. Find each other by @handle, see what friends rate, recommend a title to one.
• Support Nebula. Optional, and nothing that exists sits behind it. A supporter gets a small mark beside their name, three more accent colours, and their name on the wall if they choose. The section appears once a support link is configured on the server (cloud/support-admin.js).
• Watch parties. A short code or QR puts everyone on the same second, live streams included, with reactions and presence.
• Made for the couch. Full D-pad navigation, a TV rail, a featured board, and a lite paint profile for TV chipsets.

Design

Apple's tvOS player is the reference: flat near-black, one accent, hairline panels, two type registers (Geist and Geist Mono), white focus rings, glass player chrome. No gradients, no glow.

How it works

The player speaks the open Stremio add-on protocol — manifest.json, catalog, meta, stream, subtitles — and nothing else about it is tied to any one service. Add-ons are whatever URL you paste. The cloud service stores only what sync needs: revision-guarded JSON documents per profile, a scrypt-hashed password, a per-device token. Read the privacy policy for the exact list.

Developing

• Edit webos-player/index.html, then copy it to docs/player/index.html (the deploy script does this too). Floor is webOS 5 / Chromium 68: no clamp(), flex gap, inset, optional chaining or arrow functions in that file.
• Cloud: PORT=3342 DATA_DIR=./data node cloud/server.js; tests: cd cloud && node --test test.js.
• webOS package: stage docs/player/* with webos-player/appinfo.json and webos/*.png, then ares-package <stage> -o dist-webos --no-minify; record the ipk hash and size in webos-player/webosbrew.manifest.json and docs/apps.json.
