The Anchor CLI prints Warning: 'anchor deploy' is deprecated. Use 'anchor program deploy' instead. This replaces every anchor deploy in the repository's READMEs (85 occurrences in 83 files) with anchor program deploy. No scripts or workflows used the old command.

Both Anchor versions support the new command

The anchor-v1/ examples pin anchor-lang 1.2.1 and the anchor/ examples pin 2.0.0-rc.1, so I checked the CLI source (cli/src/lib.rs in solana-foundation/anchor) at both versions and at v1.0.0 and v1.2.2:

  • Command::Deploy is marked #[deprecated(since = "0.32.0", note = "use \anchor program deploy` instead")]` and prints the warning above. It still runs.
  • ProgramCommand::Deploy ("Deploy an upgradeable program") exists at all four versions. If you don't give it a program file, it finds the programs in the workspace, like anchor deploy does.

So anchor program deploy is correct for both the v1 and the v2 examples.
