Summary

Pins keep v0.13.3 and adopts what it changes.

  • Typed import refusals. The core now reports a stored key, the same share, and another share of the same group as KeyAlreadyStored, ShareAlreadyStored and GroupShareAlreadyStored. The import error message is chosen from the variant instead of matching the core's text. Importing a share that is already stored is now refused, so it gets its own message.
  • DKG recovery over a stored share. When the pending share's group is already stored, the core reads the stored share to check it holds the same key instead of writing it again. Recovery now queues that share's decrypt cipher in place of the encrypt cipher, which the read could not use, so this case failed with a storage error and kept the stash. A refusal because the group holds different key material, or a different share of the group, is shown with its reason instead of "Recovery failed. Please try again.", since a retry would be refused the same way.
  • Live node. The core drops the live node when a store moves the active account, and a recovery that finds its share already stored moves nothing. onLiveNodeDropped now runs only when the active account changed, so such a recovery no longer restarts the bunker or clears the live state.
  • Client cap. BunkerClientCapTest asserts the typed TooManyAuthorizedClients and that its max equals the app's MAX_AUTHORIZED_CLIENTS. No app code matched the old message.
  • Approver. A refused pairing deletes the approver key only when the pairing ended and the key is the one the event names, so a pairing begun since keeps its key. RequestExpired needs nothing beyond the reload every event triggers. The status's lastError is shown when the approver is not running, and below the controls when it is.

Test plan

  • Unit tests and lintDebug pass. ImportFailureMessageTest covers each variant, and covers that the old text in an InvalidShare no longer maps.
  • Instrumented on an API 33 emulator: the storage package (187 tests) and the nip46 package (39 tests) pass, apart from tests skipped for StrongBox or biometric hardware and the manual-only ones.
  • New DkgRecoveryOverStoredShareTest runs the app's recovery flow against a stash planted as a ceremony leaves it. With the group's share already stored, recovery returns the stored share, the active account stays, and the node is not dropped. Another share of the group is refused with its message and the stash is kept. A new group is stored, becomes active, and drops the node once. With the cipher change reverted, the first case fails (recovery returns nothing).
  • DuplicateImportRefusalTest asserts each typed variant, including a refused import of the same share.
  • BunkerRevokeE2ETest through testharness/nip46probe/run-revoke-e2e.sh on an API 33 emulator against the fixture relay: OK (1 test).
  • Not covered by a test: the approver key match on a refused pairing, and the lastError display. Both need a gateway to drive them.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Importing a share already stored on the device now shows a specific message. Recovery explains when a different key for the share is already stored and leaves the pending share in place.
    • Pairing refusals no longer remove an approver key unless it matches the refused pairing. Approver errors are shown in the relevant screen states.
    • Saving an over-limit authorized client list reports the specific client limit.

Walkthrough

The changes add typed messages for stored-item import and recovery refusals, adjust pending DKG recovery and live-node handling, and add recovery tests. Approver pairing and error display behavior also changed. An authorized-client cap test now checks the specific exception and maximum value, and the version identifier changed.

Changes

Stored-share import and DKG recovery

Layer / File(s) Summary
Stored-share refusal messages
app/src/main/kotlin/io/privkey/keep/AccountActions.kt, app/src/main/res/values/strings_main.xml, app/src/test/kotlin/io/privkey/keep/ImportFailureMessageTest.kt, app/src/androidTest/kotlin/io/privkey/keep/storage/DuplicateImportRefusalTest.kt
Import messages now map typed stored-item exceptions to distinct resources. Recovery refusal messages map recognized stored-item exceptions. Unit and instrumentation tests check the mappings and duplicate-import cases.
Pending DKG recovery flow
app/src/main/kotlin/io/privkey/keep/AccountActions.kt, app/src/androidTest/kotlin/io/privkey/keep/storage/DkgRecoveryOverStoredShareTest.kt
Recovery selects a decryption cipher for an already-stored group share and an encryption cipher otherwise. The live-node callback runs only when storage succeeds and the active-account pointer changes or cannot be read. Instrumentation tests cover matching shares, refused shares, and new groups.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 5d6f1

The core import and recovery changes look sound. Two bounded issues remain. The new instrumentation test can delete an existing DKG keystore key on a device that holds real app data. The approver screen can show a stale startup error after a later pairing. Fix both before merging, or accept them as test-device and cosmetic risks.

Major · Data Integrity & Integration · Quick win

Do not delete an existing DKG key during test setup.

If productionDkgKeyPresent() cannot inspect an existing key, it returns false. Line 61 then deletes the key. The pending DKG secret uses this fixed key alias and an unsuffixed preferences file, so deleting the key can make a pending share unrecoverable. Skip the test whenever the alias already exists. Seed and delete only a key that this test created. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Clear startError when a new pairing starts.

If retryStart() fails, state.startError remains set. beginPairing() and finishPairing() do not clear it. After a later pairing becomes paired or pairing but is not running, this fallback can show the old startup error and mask the current status.lastError. Clear startError when the new pairing is accepted or its identity changes.
