Track bounded client-owned lifetime work with fail-closed final shutdown - #56
Publish the preserved owning-library lifetime candidate 8c575b680bb6850c634ea46243a65e167e3ff0ab as a draft, without rebasing or changing its source. Tree: fc1adbe25223bf919a68cb587132536bb239f358; sole parent: 1362a94e20db6a10f78112f78d16f904a7335bbd. The authored chain starts from 29a42459a4d1.
This candidate adds explicit final shutdown admission and joins for identified library-owned tasks, including cancellation-forwarder actual return. Ordinary Disconnect remains reusable and retains its cancellation of registered delayed phone requests. FinalClose always returns ErrClientShutdownIncomplete or a bounded caller/precondition error. It cannot confirm whole-client termination.

Area
Reason and evidence
Signal/protocol/store algorithms
This scoped history wraps scheduling and callback lifetimes; algorithm preservation evidence is retained in the component handoffs. No dependency or wire-contract change is proposed.
Separate source lineages; neither branch is changed by this draft.
Verification
Earlier focused red/green fixtures and independent component reviews are retained for connection/QR, notification/privacy, message/ACK/retry, appstate, pairing/callback and forwarder slices. Their source identities remain attributed to their original commits. This publication sweep ran no new product tests or review.
The forwarder slice registers a distinct completion entry before asynchronous cancellation can schedule, retires it exactly once, and drains actual pending returns during teardown. Its historical deterministic tests cover blocked return, admission/publication interleavings, pinned scopes and bounded concurrent waiters. Full-client/native acceptance is not established.
Successful-context retention, public/DangerousInternals calls, user-spawned descendants, custom stores and transport internals, Signal/runner ownership, exact-incarnation custody and host/release obligations remain open. Cancellation and socket disconnect are not completion.
Session provenance and UI evidence
Same Campaigns owner, thread 646a0c0a-e900-4d0f-9a25-0b8834d7d4e6. Preserved component source/handoff/review/red artifacts under native-client-stop; no source rewrite in the publication sweep. No graphical UI or provider flow was exercised.
Rollout and rollback
Keep draft. Release owns merge sequencing; this frozen baseline needs current-main integration and required independent/current-head qualification before any acceptance decision. No consumer binding, successful stop receipt, staging deployment or publication is authorized. Rejecting/reverting this candidate leaves the existing consumer pins unchanged.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added Client.FinalClose for deadline-bounded shutdown that cancels and waits for tracked client work. Concurrent callers share the shutdown, and later work is refused.
Added shutdown-related errors to clarify when a client is closed, a deadline is missing, or shutdown completes without confirming all client work has stopped.
Added coordinated cleanup for QR channels during shutdown.
Bug Fixes
Improved lifecycle handling for callbacks, connection tasks, and socket operations so shutdown can cancel and wait for admitted work.
Preserved reusable behavior for ordinary disconnects.

Walkthrough
The change adds Client.FinalClose and lifecycle tracking for client-owned work, contexts, and sockets. Asynchronous connection, message, notification, pairing, and app-state paths use managed task helpers. QR channel cleanup is coordinated with client shutdown. CLIENT_LIFETIME.md documents the tracked-work boundaries.
Adds FinalClose, lifecycle errors, task and context ownership tracking, shared teardown, and admission checks across client operations. Tests cover concurrent close calls, context ownership, callback joins, and post-seal rejection.
Socket worker admission and shutdown socket/framesocket.go, socket/noisesocket.go, socket/lifecycle_test.go
Adds an optional FrameSocket worker launcher and routes socket workers and sends through it. Frame delivery exits on socket cancellation. Tests cover refused worker admission and in-flight work.
Routes connection and pairing work through lifecycle-aware helpers. Synchronous pairing decisions and handshake payload retrieval use native admission. Tests cover callback behavior and shutdown races.
Message, history, and app-state work message.go, message_lifecycle.go, appstate.go, appstate_lifecycle.go, receipt.go, retry.go, message_lifecycle_test.go, appstate_lifecycle_test.go
Schedules message, acknowledgment, retry, history-sync, and app-state work through lifecycle helpers. History loops and delayed requests track ownership; tests exercise cancellation, ordering, and post-seal refusal.
Notification, privacy, and session tasks notification.go, tctoken.go, send.go, notification_privacy_lifecycle_test.go
Routes notification and privacy-token work through managed tasks. AB-properties sync retains its timeout and success-only acknowledgment, with additional admission and context checks.
QR channel ownership and cleanup qrchan.go, qr_lifecycle_test.go
Coordinates QR sends, terminal events, output closure, handler removal, and disconnects against the socket captured for QR emission. Tests cover cancellation, backpressure, and client isolation.

Fix the import grouping that fails the go-imports-repo hook.
Both CI builds fail here. The pre-commit run --all-files step reports that go-imports-repo rewrote the imports in this file.
The first import group mixes standard-library imports with github.com/polymorfa/hypermeow/... and google.golang.org/protobuf/proto. To fix it, use three groups: standard library, third-party, then repository-local. You can also run the hook locally and commit what it produces.

Fix the import grouping that fails the go-imports-repo hook.
Both CI builds fail here. The pre-commit run --all-files step reports that go-imports-repo rewrote the imports in this file.
The cause is that the third-party import github.com/rs/zerolog sits in the same group as the repository-local github.com/polymorfa/hypermeow/... imports. To fix it, put zerolog in its own group, or run the hook locally and commit what it produces.

Fix the import grouping so the go-imports-repo pre-commit hook passes.
Both CI jobs, "Build (latest)" and "Build (old)", fail. The go-imports-repo hook rewrites this file. waBinary "github.com/polymorfa/hypermeow/binary" sits in the standard-library group, and the project imports follow it in a separate group. Fix the import grouping to pass the go-imports-repo pre-commit hook.
Both Go CI jobs fail because the go-imports-repo hook rewrites the imports in this file. The third-party import google.golang.org/protobuf/proto sits inside the group of repo-local imports. The hook expects a separate third-party group.
Apply the hook output and commit it. Run pre-commit run go-imports-repo --files pair_callback_lifecycle_test.go locally to get the exact result. The expected layout is:

8c575b680bb6850c634ea46243a65e167e3ff0abas a draft, without rebasing or changing its source. Tree:fc1adbe25223bf919a68cb587132536bb239f358; sole parent:1362a94e20db6a10f78112f78d16f904a7335bbd. The authored chain starts from29a42459a4d1.This candidate adds explicit final shutdown admission and joins for identified library-owned tasks, including cancellation-forwarder actual return. Ordinary Disconnect remains reusable and retains its cancellation of registered delayed phone requests.
FinalClosealways returnsErrClientShutdownIncompleteor a bounded caller/precondition error. It cannot confirm whole-client termination.Impact

Preserved component source/handoff/review/red artifacts under
native-client-stop; no source rewrite in the publication sweep. No graphical UI or provider flow was exercised.Rollout and rollback
Keep draft. Release owns merge sequencing; this frozen baseline needs current-main integration and required independent/current-head qualification before any acceptance decision. No consumer binding, successful stop receipt, staging deployment or publication is authorized. Rejecting/reverting this candidate leaves the existing consumer pins unchanged.

Client.FinalClosefor deadline-bounded shutdown that cancels and waits for tracked client work. Concurrent callers share the shutdown, and later work is refused.
