Refs #343. This is the Ecosystem section of phase 4: a public plugin API, and startup and DI timing.

Plugin API (version 1)

New entry @pangular-inspector/devtools/plugin. It has no runtime imports and builds to about 2 KB.

Page side

  • registerPangularPlugin({ id, version, apiVersion?, title?, description?, setup?, collect?, actions? }) returns an unregister function.
  • It works whether the overlay loads before or after the plugin, even when a library bundles its own copy of the entry.
  • The context gives the plugin:
    • pageId and active;
    • getNg();
    • push(view) and refresh();
    • serialize, redact and isSecretName.
  • The host serializes and checks every view and pushes one report per page. It skips unchanged reports and runs collect only while someone watches, at most once a second.
  • A plugin that throws shows as error, and one that needs a later API version shows as unsupported. The other plugins keep running.

Server side

  • definePangularServerPlugin({ id, version, tools?, state?, setup? }), passed as serverPlugins to initPangularHub, the Vite plugin or createPangular.
  • Tool ids are pangular:plugin:<id>:<tool>, so plugin tools can't collide with or shadow the built-in ones.
  • Tools are read by default. Any action or destructive tool is dropped by agent.readOnly, actions.plugins: false or plugins.<id>.actions: false, and plugins.<id>.tools: false drops all of a plugin's tools.
  • Every answer is marked as data. A plugin's shared state is masked.
  • Built-in read tools: list-plugins and inspect-plugin.

Panel

  • One Plugins tab, which appears only once a plugin reports. It renders a declarative view with five section kinds: stats, table, list, tree and text.
  • It uses the panel's own components, so no plugin code or HTML reaches the panel and the axe and theme checks still hold. Iframes and remote components were rejected for that reason.
  • Action buttons ask for confirmation before they run.

Config: a new plugins inspector and action, and plugins: { <id>: boolean | { enabled, tools, actions } }, covered by config validation.

Example: a plugin for the demo's TravelStore, wired in src/app/app.config.ts and src/server.ts. It has a bookings read tool and a clear-saved action, and the package and panel tests use it.

Startup and DI timing

  • New entry @pangular-inspector/devtools/startup-hook, loaded from the development polyfills (the demo's project.json now does this). It records:

    • when Angular started and when the root component was created;
    • the first stable state, exactly;
    • provider construction times from ng.enableProfiling() (Angular 20+).

    It turns profiling on just after bootstrap and restores everything a second after the app is stable.

  • Without the hook, first stable comes from ApplicationRef.isStable (16.2+) and is reported as "at the latest". Navigation timing and first contentful paint are always shown.

  • A Startup section at the bottom of the Injectors tab shows the milestones and the 10 slowest providers. A read-only startup-timing agent tool returns the same data.

Docs

  • A new "Write a plugin" guide, with the API reference and the example.
  • A Startup timing section in Injectors.
  • Plugins and startup-timing in agents/tools.md, new state keys in resources.md, the plugin options in configuration.md, the new entry points in installation.md and publishing.md, and a glossary entry.

Checks

Check Result
pnpm format:check Passes
pnpm typecheck Passes
pnpm test:devtools 2790 passed, 1 timing flake (see below), 3 skipped
pnpm test:panel 684 passed, 1 skipped
pnpm docs:build Passes
pnpm skills:check Passes
pnpm commit:check Passes
pnpm extension:build Done, in its own commit

The one failure was cd-diagnosis-real, "credits a signal written in a timer…". It failed once under load and passed 10 out of 10 runs alone, both on this branch and without it, so it is a timing flake in an existing test, not caused by this branch.

Browser check: the Plugins and Injectors tabs show no axe violations in dark or light, and no overflow at 1280 or 360 px. The example plugin's confirm-then-run action worked. The hook timed 299 providers and an exact first stable.

Not covered

  • Plugin actions don't post "Agent ran …" to the hub messages.
  • There is no Dashboard card for startup timing.
  • Providers created by environment initializers before profiling turns on are not timed. Components and directives also appear in the list, because Angular creates them through injectors. The docs say so.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a Plugins tab for viewing plugin status, details, and reported data, with filtering and configurable actions.
    • Added startup timing details to the Injectors inspector, including Angular startup milestones and provider timings when available.
    • Added plugin APIs for page views, actions, server-side tools, and shared state.
    • Added a sample travel plugin with booking and saved-destination tools.
  • Documentation
    • Added guides and reference material for plugins, startup timing, and related configuration.

Libraries can add their own Pangular tab and agent tools through @pangular-inspector/devtools/plugin, rendered from a declarative view so no plugin code runs in the panel. The Injectors tab also shows bootstrap to first stable and the slowest providers, through a new startup-hook entry.

Rewrite the sentence to remove the colon break and the passive voice.

The sentence puts two ideas in one sentence and joins them with a colon. Split it into one idea per sentence and use active voice.

Proposed fix
-The first stable time is exact when the overlay or the startup hook watched it happen. If the overlay loads after the app is stable, as when `main.ts` imports it after `whenStable()`, the row reads **First stable, at the latest**: the app was stable by the time the overlay looked.
+The first stable time is exact when the overlay or the startup hook watched it happen. If the overlay loads after the app is stable, the row reads **First stable, at the latest**. This happens, for example, when `main.ts` imports the overlay after `whenStable()`. The app was already stable when the overlay first checked.

that the overlay checks the app after it becomes stable, and retain the

Restore console.timeStamp in a finally block or in afterAll.

Line 58 restores the original console.timeStamp only after every assertion passes. If an assertion fails, the stub stays on the global console for the remaining tests in the worker. The recorder buffer also stays on globalThis, because the test never calls buffer.stop() on that path. Move both cleanup steps into afterAll.

Proposed fix
   afterAll(() => {
+    buffer?.stop?.();
+    console.timeStamp = stamp;
     app?.destroy();
     document.body.innerHTML = '';

Plugin action tools now post to the hub, plugins with their tools off stay
hidden from agents, unsupported plugins run no actions, action names and
MCP tool name lengths are checked, and the server and page share one
action timeout. One bad registry entry no longer stops the overlay.
Startup timing pushes are paced and the recorder restores what it trapped.

The pangular:plugins key holds every page plugin's view and can't be filtered per plugin, so HTTP MCP hides it while any plugin has its tools turned off. The panel still reads it.
