What and why

Fixes confirmed findings from the audit issues for #347, #348, #349, #352. One commit per issue, each ending with Refs #<n>. The issues stay open for the items listed under Left open.

#347 (NgRx store)

Fixed (3):

  • Medium: Long diffs are cut off silently (MAX_DIFF 50, no truncation marker)
  • Low: Classic state is serialized twice; same() compares with JSON.stringify (partly)
  • Low: Report entries are not shape-checked (null log entry throws in mergeNgrxReport) (partly)

Left open (8):

  • Medium: Store DevTools history actions missing (toggle, commit, reset, sweep, pause, lock): These are six new NgrxRequest types and new write tools with ACTION_TOOLS gating and panel controls: new public API and a product decision, too big for a small local fix.
  • Medium: No call site for any entry (opt-in ngrx.trace stack capture): Needs a new config option, stack trimming and redaction, and a file-link UI: a new public option and a design decision.
  • Low: The collector patches store objects (to confirm): Confirmed that the collector wraps methods and signal set/update and patches dispatch. The suggested fix (watchState-only mode, a record toggle that unwraps, a documented clash with withDevtools) is a design change, not a small fix.
  • Improvement: slider to scrub through past states: New UI feature that needs design; overlaps the past-state work tracked in phase 4 of 4: deeper diagnosis #343.
  • Improvement: collapsible state tree with search, copy path and changed-key highlight: New component and design work, not small or local.
  • Improvement: agent tool that explains why a state changed: New agent tool (public API plus config.ts registration) that also depends on the untracked stack trace item.
  • Improvement: action frequency and duration view, flagging effect loops: New collector aggregation and a new panel view: needs product and design decisions.
  • Already tracked elsewhere (phase 4 of 4: deeper diagnosis #343, phase 1 of 4: safe by default and wired into your workflow #340): Tracked in phase 4 of 4: deeper diagnosis #343 and phase 1 of 4: safe by default and wired into your workflow #340, as the issue lists.

#348 (forms and WebMCP)

Fixed (10):

  • Medium: Full-document rescan on almost every push
  • Medium: Forms in shadow roots are never found
  • Medium: Form ids are not reused after a form is recreated
  • Medium: Form actions without formId act on the first form found
  • Low: A running WebMCP call tags every event as agent (partly)
  • Low: modelContext is looked up only once
  • Low: WebMCP schema inference fails silently at the depth limit
  • Low: User-mode writes to date and time inputs fail
  • Low: Page-changing actions bypass the write gate
  • Low: changed can miss edits

Left open (11):

  • Low: Unlinked WebMCP tools are not shown in the panel: Needs new panel UI in app/ (a page-level list); larger than a local fix.
  • Low: The forms page is one 1,666-line component: Large refactor of app/ into several components and a store; not small or local.
  • Improvement: Inline editing of value/touched/dirty in the tree: New panel UI; needs a design decision.
  • Improvement: Turn form history into a Playwright/Testing Library test: New feature extending the export format; not small.
  • Improvement: Signal Forms schema view: New feature across package and panel.
  • Improvement: Accessibility checks in forms lint: Several new lint rules; larger than a local change.
  • Improvement: WebMCP 'Try this tool' button and inputSchema JSON: New gated action plus panel UI; needs a product decision.
  • Improvement: Skip full serialization when nothing changed: Needs version-counter tracking across collector and serializer; not small.
  • Improvement: Per-form origin attribution: Reworks origin tracking across the collector; needs a design.
  • Improvement: Show setup errors as a page-level banner in the panel: Panel UI work in the 1,666-line forms page; left for the panel refactor.
  • Already tracked elsewhere (phase 1 of 4: safe by default and wired into your workflow #340, phase 3 of 4: a shell you live in #342): Tracked in phase 1 of 4: safe by default and wired into your workflow #340 and phase 3 of 4: a shell you live in #342.

#349 (router)

Fixed (10):

  • Medium: links on parents are missed (partly)
  • Medium: router attached only once (partly)
  • Low: title set after the push
  • Low: instrumentation described as opt-in
  • Low: explain-navigation capped at 50
  • Low: empty-redirect-prefix label is wrong
  • Low: probe magic numbers and sync throw
  • Low: route nesting is visual only
  • Low: in-place config edits not detected
  • Low: skipped navigations marked imperative

Left open (14):

  • Low: param-shadows-literal false positives: Not a bug. Running the real router showed that a :param parent with children (lazy or not) matches a URL that ends at it, so the lint is right to flag it. The docs now say so.
  • Medium: instrument and resolve-lazy ignore actions.router: Needs a product decision. router.md already documents that instrument and resolve-lazy stay allowed when actions.router is false, and splitting the tool overlaps phase 1 of 4: safe by default and wired into your workflow #340.
  • Low: shared module state across routers: Moving the state into a per-router context is a wider refactor of router.ts. The overlay watches only one router at a time.
  • Low: panel copies server types by hand: Needs a shared types entry point or a contract test across app and package, which is larger than a local fix.
  • Low: timeline phase colours hard-coded (to confirm): The hex colours are confirmed, but the contrast was not measured. The fix needs new theme tokens and palette choices under ui-guidelines.md, which is design work.
  • Low: events-only wording contradicts the data: The wording spans the package, panel and docs, and the right fix (wording or how mode is set) is a decision.
  • Improvement: 'what happens if I go to X' card: New feature across the package and panel.
  • Improvement: diff two navigations view: New feature and UI design.
  • Improvement: live redirect-from-query check: New detection feature; not small.
  • Improvement: HTTP list from the HTTP collector: Cross-collector change.
  • Improvement: navigation streaming resource/tool: New public agent API.
  • Improvement: record withNavigationErrorHandler / Navigation API: New data and UI; not small.
  • Improvement: new lint rules: New rules need design and docs; not small.
  • Already tracked: ACTION_TOOLS.router empty, open in editor, shared timeline: Tracked in phase 1 of 4: safe by default and wired into your workflow #340 and phase 3 of 4: a shell you live in #342.

#352 (Analog)

Fixed (9):

  • Medium: Lint reads the newest page, not the shown one
  • Medium: Server functions with type arguments are missed
  • Medium: Config parsing stops after 4000 characters (partly)
  • Low: Report strings have no length limit
  • Low: Analog RPCs missing from RPC_INSPECTOR
  • Low: list-pages leaves out Analog pages
  • Low: Lint badge counts info findings as warnings
  • Low: Shadowed-page link only matches .page.ts
  • Low: Load endpoint URLs aren't encoded

Left open (15):

  • Medium: Server calls mix across tabs (no pageId on AnalogCall): Needs a page-tagging scheme for dev server requests (overlay header or Referer map) plus a page filter in the tool and the Server tab, so it is not a small, local fix.
  • Medium: Synchronous rescans on every push: Replacing the TTL with watcher-driven invalidation and changing when the panel refetches touches the Vite plugin, the register code and the panel. That is a design change, not a local fix.
  • Low: Server files only looked up in src/app/pages (to confirm): Not confirmed. Analog 2.7.5 only picks up .server.ts load files under src/app/pages (router-plugin and get-page-handlers glob app/pages/**/*.server.ts), so the current behaviour matches Analog.
  • Low: load() payload stringified on every tick: A WeakMap keyed by the data object would serve a stale preview when the app changes the object in place. The perf gain does not justify that correctness risk without a mutation signal.
  • Low: Page chain follows firstChild only: Walking every outlet and tagging entries changes the report shape, loadFrom indexing and the panel and agent output. Too broad for this batch.
  • Improvement: Server route playground: Large UI feature that needs a product decision.
  • Improvement: Payload tab with TransferState entries: New tab across three files that needs a design decision.
  • Improvement: Runtime config view: New feature and data surface that needs a product decision.
  • Improvement: Nitro internals with purge action: New action tool and feature; too large and needs a decision.
  • Improvement: Per-route data inspector: Needs a new page RPC and a lazy tree UI.
  • Improvement: Render mode check: New hub fetch feature; not small.
  • Improvement: Content tab frontmatter schema and preview: Needs a new config option, which is a product decision.
  • Improvement: Vite transform stack link: New cross-module feature.
  • Improvement: Build analysis: New feature; not small.
  • Already tracked: analog-call-api path restrictions (phase 1 of 4: safe by default and wired into your workflow #340), open in editor (phase 1 of 4: safe by default and wired into your workflow #340), per-navigation timeline (phase 3 of 4: a shell you live in #342/phase 4 of 4: deeper diagnosis #343): Tracked elsewhere.

Review follow-up

  • Re-attaching to a new Router clears the old navigation and preload records, so a reused navigation id no longer updates a stale record.
  • The param-shadows-literal lint flags a :param parent route with children again, lazy or not: Angular matches such a parent when the URL ends at it, so the literal route after it is never reached.
  • The route config signature tracks guard identity, so replacing a guard at the same index refreshes the report and its instrumentation.
  • Analog reads prerender routes from the top-level prerender option, not a nested nitro.prerender block.
  • Analog redaction drops a JWT that the first cut split before its signature, so a partial token is never shown.
  • analog-lint with an unknown page says so and lists the pages that send data, instead of answering that nothing was found.
  • A timestamp written to a month input goes through valueAsDate, so it no longer fails as an invalid month.

How it was verified

  • pnpm commit:check
  • pnpm format:check
  • pnpm typecheck (includes the ngc template checks)
  • pnpm test:devtools and pnpm test:panel
  • pnpm skills:check (when .claude/ changed)
  • Docs in apps/docs updated and pnpm docs:build passes
  • pnpm extension:build and extension/ui committed
  • Checked in the browser with axe (when the UI changed)

Notes for reviewers

  • Items marked (to confirm) in the issues were only fixed when the code confirmed them.
  • Skipped items need a product decision or are larger, cross-layer changes; each one has its reason above.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Forms now includes forms inside open shadow roots, preserves IDs when forms are recreated, and detects changes to long field values.
    • Form actions support format-aware date and time updates, leaving fields unchanged when values are invalid. Saving page globals protects existing values unless overwrite is forced.
    • Store change logs report omitted changes when diffs exceed the display limit.
    • Analog lint can target a specific page; its count includes errors and warnings, with errors highlighted.
    • Route details expose nesting and parent information to screen readers.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Router inspection handles router replacements and reports additional navigation details, including late title updates.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified form actions, navigation limits, route lint behavior, and omitted store changes.

A log entry kept at most 50 changes and gave no sign that more were
left out, so the panel and the agent text read as if the diff was
complete. The page now counts the left-out changes (up to 1000) into
an optional diffTruncated field, and the panel and the
signal-store-history text show "N more changes not shown".

Pushed reports are now shape-checked with valibot, so a malformed
store, log entry or classic block is dropped instead of throwing. The
classic state is no longer re-serialized while the store object is
unchanged, and the diff equality check compares values directly
instead of building JSON strings.

Refs #347
The forms collector rescanned every host on each change, missed forms
inside open shadow roots, gave a recreated form a new id, and let form
actions that target one form run without a formId.

Scan hosts incrementally and throttle full rescans, walk open shadow
roots, reuse a form's id when the same form is recreated, and require
formId for every form action except the page-level ones (locate, pick,
cancel-pick, instrument). Also fix several smaller problems in the
collector and the WebMCP agent tagging, add a Signal Form in a shadow
root to the demo, and update the forms, tools and configuration docs.

Refs #348
Several router inspector checks gave wrong or missing results. Two lint
rules reported the wrong routes, configSignature missed in-place edits
to the route config, and the probe waited 10 seconds after a
synchronous throw.

explain-navigation now honours limits.navigations and only asks for
instrumentation when it is off, skipped navigations no longer default
to "imperative", late titles trigger a push, router re-attach and links
on parent routes are handled better, and the active-routes table tells
screen readers how routes are nested. The router and tools docs pages
are updated to match.

Refs #349
Analog lint always ran against one page instead of the page the panel
is open on, the scan missed typed serverFn<T>() calls and most of the
analog() config, and the analog RPCs were not listed in RPC_INSPECTOR,
so turning the inspector off did not hide them.

Add a page argument to the lint RPC and tool, read serverFn<T>() calls
and the whole analog() config, encode load endpoint URLs, and cap page
report fields before redaction. list-pages now includes Analog pages,
the lint badge leaves info findings out and shows red for errors, and
the shadowed-page note works for .page.analog and .page.ag files. The
tools and Analog docs pages describe the page argument and the badge.

Refs #352
…hadow lint

A re-bootstrapped router counts navigation ids from 1 again, so the overlay now empties the navigation and preload lists when it lets go of a router. The param-shadows-literal check again flags an unloaded loadComponent route and only skips unloaded loadChildren.
A JWT cut by the first clip of a report field is dropped before redaction. analog-lint now says when the page it is asked about sends no Analog data and lists the pages that do.
A timestamp goes through valueAsDate for every date input except datetime-local, since valueAsNumber counts months on a month input.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~60 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to e7bba

The route-lint change now matches the behavior the earlier concern asked for, and no open issues remain. The change looks mergeable after normal checks.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to e7bba

The changes tighten several data-handling and action controls. However, detecting live route-guard changes can trigger cleanup that restores an obsolete guard, potentially undoing a stronger access check. This is limited to applications with router inspection and instrumentation enabled; a backend authorization bypass has not been established.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new guard-sensitive configuration signature feeds cleanup that restores previously captured guard entries without checking whether it still owns those entries. If the application replaces a wrapped guard in place, automatic refresh can overwrite the replacement and instrument the obsolete guard instead. Cleanup already behaved this way at the base, but same-slot guard replacement now independently triggers refresh. A stronger replacement access check could therefore be undone.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The retained concern affects the live client-side router configuration of an inspected application when instrumentation is enabled and a wrapped guard is replaced in place. Instrumentation defaults on unless disabled for the tab. The inspected path does not establish exposure of backend authorization, other tenants, credentials, or infrastructure authority.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A trusted application update replaces a wrapped permissive guard with a stronger guard at the same slot. The new signature detects the replacement; refresh invokes the old restoration closure, which writes the permissive guard back before re-instrumentation. A subsequent navigation can then use the obsolete check. An attacker need not modify the guard if the application performs such updates, but no concrete application-specific exploit or server-side bypass was demonstrated.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The inspected request and report changes strengthen existing controls: listed form writes remain configuration-gated, non-page-scoped actions require form identity, and Analog report redaction occurs before storage. These controls counter a broad interpretation that the PR grants new unscoped write authority.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The guard-identity regression test verifies stable signatures during wrapping and changed signatures after guard replacement, but it restores instrumentation before replacing the guard. It therefore does not resolve ownership preservation when replacement occurs during an active wrapper lifetime.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Make restoration conditional on the slot or method still containing the exact wrapper being removed. Preserve application replacements across refresh, disable, and detach, and validate that a stronger guard installed while wrapped survives each cleanup path.

Angular 22 router recognize processSegment parent route with children URL ends before child route

💡 Result:

In Angular’s `recognize.ts`, the parent route **can still be recognized when the URL ends at the parent**, even if it has child routes.

After matching the parent, the router splits off the consumed URL segments. If none remain and there are no remaining URL children, it returns a `TreeNode` for the parent with no activated children. If URL segments or outlet children remain, it tries to match them against the child config; failure to match those leftovers causes `NoMatch`. ([github.com](https://github.com/angular/angular/blob/main/packages/router/src/recognize.ts))

**Important distinction:** this does not mean the router activates a child just because one is configured. A child activates only if it matches the remaining URL—an empty-path child can match when the URL ends at the parent.

The cited file is Angular’s current `main` branch, not a version-pinned Angular 22 source, so this describes that implementation; verify against your exact 22.x tag if you need version-specific confirmation. Do not require an empty-path child for parent-route shadowing.

Angular Router 22.1.7 can recognize :id when the URL ends at that parent. A non-empty child does not prevent :id from matching /new, so the later new route remains unreachable. Keep the unloaded loadChildren exclusion, but remove the child-based condition. Update the regression test and documentation.

Update the endsHere check so a parent route can match when the URL ends at that
parent, regardless of whether it has non-empty children. Preserve the exclusion
for unloaded lazy routes.

… param shadow lint

The config signature counted guards per kind, so replacing a guard with
another at the same index left it unchanged: the overlay kept the old route
report and never wrapped the new guard. Each guard now gets a stable id from
a WeakMap, taken from the app's own function so the in-place instrumentation
wrappers do not change the signature.

The param-shadows-literal lint skipped a :param route with children unless
it had an empty-path child, and skipped unloaded loadChildren routes. Angular
does not backtrack there: when the URL ends at the parent, recognize matches
it with no child activated, so '/new' still lands on ':id'. The lint flags
these routes again and the router docs say so.
The prerender block search took the first `prerender: {` in the analog()
call, so `nitro: { prerender: { routes } }` written before the top-level
`prerender` option supplied the routes for the prerender plan and route lint.
The search now only accepts a match at the top level of the options object.
