What and why

inspect-providers only matched element injectors with selector, so asking what Root, Platform or a route injector such as Route: admin provides returned "No element injector matches". The only fallback was the whole tree, cut off at 20,000 characters.

A selector now also matches environment injectors by name (case-insensitive, extra whitespace ignored) or by id. The answer lists:

  • that injector's providers
  • what the services it already created inject, naming the injector that supplied each one
  • its parent environment injectors and the tokens each provides

Element selectors behave as before. When nothing matches, the answer names both kinds of injector and lists the environment injectors on the page, so an agent can retry with a valid name. With token, injections are narrowed to the matched element or environment injectors.

The tool description in devframe.ts and the agent tools docs page are updated.

How it was verified

  • pnpm commit:check: 1 commit message OK
  • pnpm format:check: all files pass Prettier
  • pnpm typecheck: exit 0 (only existing NG8107 warnings in app)
  • pnpm test:devtools: the new test and the existing selector, token and size-limit tests in agent-tools.test.ts pass. The full run passed 1420 of 1426 tests. The 6 failures were 5-second timeouts in analog-inspector, cli-bin, page-highlight and store-inspector, on a heavily loaded machine. Those files pass (24/24) with --testTimeout=60000.
  • pnpm test:panel: not run, app/ unchanged
  • Docs updated (apps/docs/src/content/agents/tools.md) and pnpm docs:build passes
  • pnpm extension:build: not needed, app/ unchanged
  • Browser axe check: not needed, no UI change

Notes for reviewers

  • Environment injectors are matched by exact name, not substring, so admin does not match Route: admin. The no-match message lists the full names to retry with.
  • If a selector matches both an element injector and an environment injector, both sections are returned, element injectors first.
  • Parent injectors are worked out from how the reported environment tree is nested; no new page-side data is collected.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Provider inspection can find environment injectors by exact ID or by name, ignoring differences in capitalization and whitespace.
    • Environment injector results include providers, dependencies of created services, and parent lookup paths. Element injector results include resolved lookup paths.
    • Environment injectors can be inspected on pages without element roots. Token filtering works for matched environment injectors, and unmatched selectors list available element tags and environment injector names.
  • Documentation
    • Updated provider inspection guidance to explain selector matching for element and environment injectors, including environment injector name examples.

The selector argument only matched element injectors, so asking what
the Root, Platform or a route injector provides returned "No element
injector matches", and the only fallback was the whole tree cut off at
20,000 characters.

A selector now also matches environment injectors by name, case
insensitive (Root, Platform, Route: admin), or by id. The answer lists
that injector's providers, what the services it already created inject
with the supplying injector named, and its parent environment injectors
with the tokens each provides. Element selectors behave as before. When
nothing matches, the answer names both kinds and lists the environment
injectors on the page so the agent can retry with a valid name.

The tool description and the agent tools docs page describe the new
selector values.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The inspect-providers tool now accepts environment injector IDs and normalized names as selectors. It reports environment injector providers, dependencies, and parent chains. Element injector results remain available, and unmatched selectors list available names.

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to d0e66

Users can find injector ID selection in the agent-tools guide and tool description; no established issue remains that should delay merging.

Review details

Systems and components

  • observed — packages/devtools (library) was modified; 3 changed files map to changed impact.
  • observed — apps/docs (service) was modified; 2 changed files map to changed impact.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/docs/src/content/agents/tools.md: The inspect-providers argument table now documents environment injector names as valid selector values, replacing the element-only matching description. It also specifies the distinct results for matching element versus environment injectors and the available-name guidance when no selector matches.
  • observed — Modified behavior in packages/devtools/src/devframe.ts: Expanded the tool description to cover environment-injector selection and details, element-injector lookup paths, no-match output, and partial-tree reporting.
  • observed — Modified behavior in packages/devtools/src/devframe.ts: The selector description now includes environment injector names, case-insensitive, in addition to tags, class names, and injector IDs.
  • observed — Modified behavior in packages/devtools/src/tests/agent-tools.test.ts: The unmatched-selector expectation now accepts the error wording for either element or environment injectors, rather than only element injectors.

Comment thread packages/devtools/src/rpc/injector-tools.ts Outdated
inspect-providers answered "No injector data available" whenever the
page reported no element injectors, so a report with only environment
injectors could not be inspected even with an environment selector.
Return that answer only when both trees are empty.

Document environment injector ID selectors.

The selector also accepts an exact environment injector ID, but this row lists only name examples. Add an ID example so users can discover this supported selector form.
