Mandatory use of 'Waffle menu'.

Would like option to choose which items are on the top bar with the balance in the waffle menu.

That seems to be the best for all users. I don’t find the mandatory search in the top bar of any use, ever. I click on a subset of apps many, many more times than I use a search.

Choice, please. 🥹

If you don't use many apps, there's no point in having a complicated menu. It would be great if you could choose what kind of menu you want. I've been waiting for years for the features of the custom menu app to be integrated into Nextcloud, but instead, it seems like the Nextcloud developers haven't noticed that there's a need for customization. Instead, they come up with some ugly monstrosity and force it on everyone with an update. It’s pretty annoying.

I think this all looks very good. As mentioned earlier I would make the menu bigger to be able to show more apps. Modern Nextclouds have a lot apps enabled. In our case 24 apps. So to only show 8 apps is not enough. The rest is great.

Yes, it looks good. But it makes usage more complicated. Every switch to a different app takes now two clicks instead of one. The central search 'bar' is no compensation, since it is not more than a button, which also only triggers a new dialog. But this button (this function) is rarely used by me, about every 3-4 weeks once. In comparison, switching apps, is an action i use dozens of times in every session. This way all my every day buttons have to sacrifice their space to one fat button I very rarely use, and which, in addition, pretends to be an input field. So for me this is absolutely no improvement. Please don't ignore usability in preference of good looks and make this design element optional, not mandatory. Thank you.

EDIT: Switching apps now also is much slower and apparently takes a complete refresh of all UI-Elements. I'm not sure what exactly is the difference, but it feels like a complete new session every time instead of just a change of elements as before.

EDIT 2: I also found this thread after searching a long time for this issue. Yesterday I updated my server, but didn't have occasion to see the new interface until today. It took me quite a time to find out, that my apps have not disappeared but have been hidden behind a usability wall. So I started to search for a solution. Is server downgrade possible or do I have to restore a backup to regain usability for me and my users?

EDIT 3: I also have a total of 24 apps with an own UI, and I would rather prefer to scroll or double the top bar for a direct access to my app shortcuts, than a neat looking but malworking hidden extra menu which has to be opened each and every time before being able to click my desired app. Apart from this I must admit, that I find it a lot harder to find my app in this crowded all-apps-in-as-few-space-as-possible extra menu than on the top bar, where all apps are side-by-side.

The old navigation bar was fine the new waffle menu is not an "enhancement" it's "UI Degradation" as now 2 clicks as opposed to one click are required to access an app.

Under "Administrative Settings --> Theming --> Navigation bar settings" is the option to change the default behaviour of the top left button. But apps you add to the list won't appear in the menu bar.

Maybe this issue is more of a bugreport than a enhancement request?
