context-hub now has a page showing what the context pipeline is waiting on: an open sync PR here, an unreleased release, and so on. But it can't tell when the rolling sync PR in this repo gets merged, so it would show the import as waiting forever. This adds a small workflow that tells context-hub when that PR closes, and which docs commit landed if it merged.

What changed

  • .github/workflows/ctx-pipeline-sync-closed.yml (new): on pull_request_target closed, only for PRs from this repo on ctx-pipeline/agent-context-sync. When merged, it reads lastImportedCommit from the merge commit's .ctx-gen/state.json and pings context-hub's POST /api/pipeline/events/ct-sync-pr-closed. Runs in the ctx-pipeline environment, contents: read, continue-on-error. It never checks out or runs PR-head code, and every event value reaches the shell through env:.
  • scripts/ctx-hub-ping.mjs: a sync-pr-closed command (importedCommitFrom, syncPrClosedBody). It sends docsSha only when the PR merged and the state holds a 40-hex commit.
  • scripts/ctx-hub-ping.test.mjs: body and parser tests, plus shape tests for the new workflow (trigger, trust check, no PR-head checkout, no ${{ }} in run:, secret only via env:).
  • CLAUDE.md: one line for the new workflow.

How it was verified

  • npm test: 180 pass.
  • A local dry run against this repo's .ctx-gen/state.json prints the expected body with the right docsSha.
  • Read-only review for security, simplicity, and spec. The security review confirmed the pull_request_target boundary.
  • Not run in Actions: pull_request_target uses the default branch's copy, so it can only run after merge. Merge netlify/context-hub#38 and deploy it first; until then the ping fails, which continue-on-error absorbs. After both are live, merging the next sync PR should show a ct.sync_pr.closed event on context-hub's /events and a Slack notice, and the Import stage on /pipeline should read clear. Also confirm the ctx-pipeline environment allows pull_request_target runs on main.

EX-3352

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Sync pull requests now report when they’re merged or closed. Reports for merged pull requests include the imported documentation revision when it’s available.
    • Reporting is non-blocking, so reporting issues won’t prevent the pull request workflow from completing.
  • Documentation
    • Added documentation describing sync pull request reporting and its non-blocking behavior.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Adds a GitHub Actions workflow for closed sync pull requests. The workflow invokes a new sync-pr-closed command, which validates event inputs and reports the merge status and, when available, the imported commit SHA.

Changes

Sync pull request reporting

Layer / File(s) Summary
Closure event payload
scripts/ctx-hub-ping.mjs, scripts/ctx-hub-ping.test.mjs
Adds sync-pr-closed payload construction and validation. For merged pull requests, the payload includes docsSha only when the state contains a valid 40-character lowercase hexadecimal lastImportedCommit. Tests cover valid and invalid inputs and SHA handling.
Workflow and command execution
.github/workflows/ctx-pipeline-sync-closed.yml, scripts/ctx-hub-ping.mjs, scripts/ctx-hub-ping.test.mjs, CLAUDE.md
Adds a workflow gated to closed sync pull requests targeting main from the same repository. It reads state for merged pull requests and invokes the command. Tests cover state-file handling and workflow configuration. CLAUDE.md documents the workflow.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in CLAUDE.md: Adds the context-hub sync-PR workflow entry, describing its merge/close reporting, branch restriction, lack of PR-code checkout, and continue-on-error telemetry behavior.
  • observed — Modified behavior in scripts/ctx-hub-ping.mjs: The header now documents the sync-PR-close event, its command inputs, and how SYNC_STATE_FILE supplies state for a validated docsSha.
  • observed — Modified behavior in scripts/ctx-hub-ping.mjs: The usage declaration adds sync-pr-closed, and the script imports node:fs for reading its state file.
  • observed — Modified behavior in scripts/ctx-hub-ping.mjs: Adds importedCommitFrom, which returns lastImportedCommit only when the input parses as an object containing a 40-character lowercase hexadecimal string; malformed JSON or any other shape or value returns null.

Approved with two small fixes. Hold the merge until context-hub#38 is deployed.

  1. .github/workflows/ctx-pipeline-sync-closed.yml:46 — a failed git fetch skips the ping (CodeRabbit's point, confirmed). Fix: git fetch -q --depth=1 origin "$MERGE_SHA" && git show "$MERGE_SHA:.ctx-gen/state.json" > "$RUNNER_TEMP/sync-state.json" || rm -f "$RUNNER_TEMP/sync-state.json".
  2. scripts/ctx-hub-ping.test.mjs:495 — gate test passes with || in place of && (reproduced, 45 pass). Fix: add assert.doesNotMatch(gate[1], /\|\|/) or assert the folded text exactly.
  3. Question: does the ctx-pipeline environment allow pull_request_target runs on main? A required-reviewer rule makes the job wait, not fail.
  4. Nit, line 17: "never reddens anything" → "never fails the run"; the job still shows red.

Verified

  • Trust boundary: fork PRs, renamed branches, deleted head repos all fail the gate closed; checkout is main at a pinned SHA; only PR-derived input is the post-merge state file, parsed with a strict 40-hex check.
  • npm test 180 passing; dry run on the real .ctx-gen/state.json emits docsSha 6900c613.
  • merge_commit_sha is set on closed+merged for squash merges; GITHUB_RUN_ATTEMPT is a default env var.

After #38 is live and these land, the next sync PR merge should show ct.sync_pr.closed on /events and clear Import.

Address review on #150: a failed git fetch no longer fails the state step
(it falls through with no state file, so docsSha is null), the gate test
pins the exact if: text so || in place of && fails it, and the header
comment says the job never fails the run rather than never reddens.
