Thanks, @XTLine. This fixes a real masking bug: during a Codex usage limit, terminal redraws turned the limit into One change, so that a seat that has recovered reads as it does on main:
The rest is good as it is. After your push, we'll review the change, and then there's a final maintainer check before merge. |
|
Thanks, @XTLine. The recovery fix works. We tested it against main on a test build: once the banner is gone and the seat is working again, it reads as working from the first poll, without waiting for a hook, and it's back in One change, so the limit is cleared only when it's really over. Our last suggestion was to end the limit when the banner check sees the banner gone, and that check can miss a banner that's still on screen. We tested frames built around a real Codex banner (we haven't measured how often Codex shows a banner in these states):
Please record the clear only when the capture positively shows recovery, for example a non-empty frame the classifier recognises, with no banner in it, and recognise the banner above those composer forms. Treating only unrecognised captures as unresolved would still miss the indented-composer case, since that frame is recognised and only the banner match fails. Tests for these three cases (the whitespace-only capture and the banner above each composer form), alongside your recovery test, would pin it. After your push, we'll review the change, and then there's a final maintainer check before merge. |

Thanks, @XTLine. The three frames from the last round are fixed: a whitespace-only capture keeps the limit, and the banner is recognised above a draft and above an indented composer on every poll. We tested it against main on a test build. Recovery still clears on the first readable poll, whether the seat is working or finished, and the history case (an old banner, a submitted prompt, newer output, then the composer at the bottom) reads as recovered. CI is green. One more change: Please let newer working output below an old banner end it even when the last After your push, we'll review the change, and then there's a final maintainer check before merge. |

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Recognize newer work below a submitted prompt.
If a capture contains an old banner, a submitted › prompt, and newer work without an esc to interrupt row or bottom composer, this check does not reject the banner. The pre-prompt tail is empty, so detectCodexLimitBanner returns the old limit. The poller then retains at_limit, and the recovered seat stays out of rig ps --nodes --active. Use positive evidence of post-submit work to end the limit without treating draft text as output. Add the reported no-composer frame to the poller test.

Thanks, @XTLine. The frame from the last round is fixed. We tested it against main on a test build: an old banner, then a submitted prompt, then Codex's working line with no composer below now reads as running and is back in One more change, and this time as a rule rather than another frame: nothing the person has typed into an unsent draft should count as evidence that the limit has ended. We tested this frame, with the banner still current and a three-line unsent draft below it: The second and third lines are typed text. From Codex's renderer code, a draft's continuation lines are drawn in the composer's two-column gutter. This version takes the indented Please keep the fix from the last round, where a real working line after a submitted prompt ends an old banner, while treating everything inside the draft, including After your push, we'll review the change, and then there's a final maintainer check before merge. |

Thanks, I see the gap now. The nested › and status-looking lines are still part of the unsent draft, so they should not clear the limit. I’ll keep continuation lines inside the draft boundary, including when the first line is blank, and add regressions for both cases alongside the real working-line recovery case from the last round. I’ll also check the no-status-row case raised in the inline review without using draft text as recovery evidence. |
|
Pushed f540cf1. The banner check now keeps continuation lines with their outer prompt, so nested › markers, status-looking text and typed fences cannot turn an unsent draft into recovery evidence. This also covers a blank first line and preserves the real working-line recovery from the previous round. Both reported drafts now keep the stored limit and stay out of --active across repeated polls. The 122-test regression file produces 45 failures on the previous commit and passes with this change; 530 focused tests, the workspace build and lint pass locally. These are synthetic capture tests through the real poller/store/inventory path, not a claim about native Codex frequency. For the inline no-status-row case, I have not broadened recovery to arbitrary prose or bullets: without another structural boundary, those can still be draft/footer text. Could you share the exact capture for that case? I’d like to pin it down without weakening the draft rule. |

Approved at f540cf1. A current Codex usage limit stays visible: while the banner is current the seat reads usage_limit in inventory, compact rig ps and the web labels, across polls and redraws, and ordinary sends still go through. It clears on positive recovery evidence: a newer turn-status row after the last submitted prompt, or a readable frame with no banner. Nothing typed into an unsent draft counts as recovery, including › lines, status-like text and typed fences in its continuation lines. Newer permission, blocked and startup-error states keep their priority. Known limitation: when an old banner is followed by a submitted prompt and assistant prose or bullets, with no turn-status row and no composer below, this version keeps the limit and renews it after five minutes, where main lets it age out (and, with screen motion, reads the seat as running). We have not seen that frame in a real Codex session, and the same text can also be an unsent draft above footer text. Required CI passed at this head.

Thanks, @XTLine, for six rounds of careful work, each one answered with tests. It's merged, so once it ships, a current Codex usage limit stays visible for anyone running Codex seats. We tested the last fix against main on a test build. With a current banner, an unsent draft no longer clears the limit: the three-line draft from our last comment, the same draft with a blank first line, nested Here's the capture you asked for. We built it from the code; we haven't seen it in a real Codex session: The results on that frame, with an old limit stored:
We merged with this as a known limitation. We haven't seen the frame in a real session, and, as you pointed out, the same text could also be an unsent draft above footer text. If either of us comes across a real capture, or a reliable way to tell the two apart, we'll look at it again then. Our approval on this PR describes the limitation, and the release notes will too. |

An update, @XTLine: OpenRig 0.6.11 is out on npm, and this change is in it (release notes: https://github.com/mvschwarz/openrig/releases/tag/v0.6.11). As we said, the release notes also describe, under Known issues, the limitation we discussed before merging. Thanks again. |
What a user gets
A current Codex usage limit stays visible when the terminal redraws. Inventory keeps the typed
unknown/usage_limitreading, compactrig pstext and JSON retain the reason, and the existing web activity labels show “usage limit”. Ordinary sends remain allowed. Stale or generation-mismatched limits still yield to current activity, and newer permission prompts, blocked visuals and startup errors retain priority.Refs #763 and #824. This follows #973 and addresses current-limit display masking; the broader provider-signal and idle-redraw issues remain open.
