A download with curl --progress-bar redraws its line with a carriage return. The log kept every frame as one line: about 400 KB for the half-gigabyte Recovery Arch OS fetches, more for its ISO. That line went into every shared log as well.

  • External logs a line as it was last drawn, the way a terminal shows it
  • Earlier drawings of an unfinished line are dropped as they arrive, so a long bar is not held in memory
  • Carriage returns at the very end of a write draw nothing yet, so a \r\n split across two writes still ends one line

Found in Arch OS's QA: recovery.log after a Recovery update held a 412 KB line.
