inferences: no way to add a model to the catalog from Console #64

Open

Description

@lumianph

What are you trying to do?

Add my own model to the model catalog from Console, so it can be deployed like the catalog's models.

Today the catalog only lists what the configured catalog sites publish (the public model-catalog by default). The site profile can add more catalog URLs, but there is no entry point in Console to import or add a single model.

What do you do today instead?

Host a separate catalog site in the same format (index.json, models/<name>/...) and add its URL to the site profile.

Use cases

  • An operator imports a fine-tuned or private model and deploys it from Model Serving.

    Route settled: this is covered by the writable-catalog editing from #73, not by a Console-owned catalog. A writable catalog is available even when the site's own catalog is a read-only static index — swiss 0.7.0 vendors catalog-server, and #91 moves the bundled subchart to 0.7.0 and documents enabling it + adding it to the site profile. After that lands, Model Library → New model covers this.
