A collection of Python practice scripts and mini projects covering automation, utilities, and beginner-to-intermediate experiments.

Repository Overview

This repository contains multiple standalone project folders. Each folder focuses on a specific use case such as browser automation, password generation, OCR, networking utilities, screenshot tools, and more.

Project Structure

  • basics/ — fundamental Python practice and core concepts
  • browserAutomate/ — browser automation scripts
  • covidAlert/ — COVID-related alert/checker utility
  • emailSender/ — scripts for sending emails programmatically
  • getIP_fromHost/ — resolve/get IP address from hostnames
  • imageTOtxt/ — image-to-text (OCR-style) experiments
  • passwordGenerator/ — random password generation tools
  • pyTalks2007/ — Python talk/demo related scripts
  • screenshotAPP_CLI/ — command-line screenshot utility
  • screenshotGUI/ — GUI-based screenshot application
  • speedtest/ — internet speed test utility

Each project is mostly independent and have its own dependencies.

Getting Started

1) Clone the repository

git clone https://github.com/mahidulhq/python.git
cd python

2) (Recommended) Create a virtual environment

python -m venv .venv

# Linux/macOS
source .venv/bin/activate

# Windows (PowerShell)
.venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1

3) Install dependencies

If a project folder contains a requirements.txt, install it from that folder:

pip install -r requirements.txt

Run a Project

Enter a project directory and run its main script (example):

cd passwordGenerator
python main.py

If there is no main.py, run the relevant .py file in that folder.

This repository is useful for practicing:

  • Python syntax and fundamentals
  • File and OS operations
  • Network and automation scripts
  • Simple GUI and CLI app development
  • Working with third-party Python libraries

Virtual Environment Setup (Linux)

1. mkdir new_project && cd new_project
2. sudo apt install python3-venv    # ONE TIME SYSTEM SETUP
3. python3 -m venv venv             # Creates ./venv/
4. source venv/bin/activate         # Prompt MUST show: (venv)
5. pip install --upgrade pip        # Always first
6. pip install your_packages_here   # Project-specific
7. python your_script.py            # Runs in isolation
8. deactivate                       # Exit when done

VS Code Integration

9.  code .                           # Open project
10. Ctrl+Shift+P → "Python: Select Interpreter"
11. Choose: ./venv/bin/python        # Status bar MUST show this path
12. F5 to run/debug

Verification Checklist (RUN THESE EXACTLY)

dpkg -l | grep python3-venv         # [OK] if installed
which python                        # MUST: .../new_project/venv/bin/python
pip list                            # Shows ONLY venv packages
