Tamagui support

does rn boost support Tamagui components or does it plan to ?

Depends on what you mean by "support". Boost should be compatible with Tamagui in the sense that it doesn't break your app or styles or changes runtime behavior, yes.¹ However, Tamagui rewrites some components like View or Text to its own components. This causes Boost to not recognize them as react-native components and therefore does not optimize them. Boost's core optimizers therefore don't work with Tamagui. They don't break your app, they just don't do anything. Only the smaller optimizers will actually have an effect.

¹ There may be one minor incompatibility with the animated-wrapper-removal optimizer that could change your app's behavior in a specific edge case. If you do decide to install Boost next to Tamagui, I'd recommend turning that off for now. I'll investigate this further and implement a fix soon.

Full Tamagui support, meaning "all Boost optimizers actually do something while preserving Tamagui styling and runtime behavior" is something I'll have to investigate to see if it's possible. Will do so over the next few days!

The edge case mentioned above is fixed in 2.0.1. Boost is now fully compatible with Tamagui in the sense that it won't cause bugs in the app. The core optimizers (e.g. native-view, native-text) still have no effect however, so the benefit to using Boost is very little.

I did a first rough analysis of Tamagui and think it'd be very hard to implement support in Boost, unfortunately. There's no "clean integration point" like Unistyles or Uniwind, given how Tamagui has its own compiler that does very special shenanigans. Given how popular Tamagui is, I'll try to look a little deeper and come up with a solution though in the next days.

Yeah I guess that the compiler adds a layer of complexity to this project.
I'll be keeping an eye on your progress then, I'll let rn boost in my repos now that bugs have been handled 😃
