Implement mcp v2 once supported by DSPy #24

Description

@khezen
  • Current: mcp 1.29.0 (latest v1 line, released Jul 28 2026)
  • MCP v2.0.0 exists but is blocked by DSPy 3.3.0 incompatibility (uses camelCase field access: tool.inputSchema, result.isError which became tool.input_schema, result.is_error in v2)

Why not mcp v2?

DSPy 3.3.0 (latest, Aug 3 2026) has dspy/utils/mcp.py that accesses:

  • tool.inputSchema → broken in v2 (AttributeError)
  • call_tool_result.isError → broken in v2 (AttributeError)

No newer DSPy version exists. Upgrading to mcp v2 would require monkey-patching DSPy internals. Not worth the fragility.
