Hi, I'm Jared Ong, a software developer from Brunei Darussalam, a tiny country in Southeast Asia you've probably never heard of. I'm a fan of open source, and I like building tools that fix small annoyances in my own life. If something I build turns out to help someone else too, that makes me happier than it probably should.
Before coding, I spent four years running biotech production, then taught myself to code through The Odin Project, and I've been building for the web ever since. I'm still early in my career, and honestly, I'm enjoying every bit of it.
A few things I've built:
- 🛒 Shrimp Enthusiast - a live e-commerce site for a real shrimp breeding business in Brunei, built in plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript (live with real customers; 100+ sales since June 2026). Repo
- 💰 Bukit Pennies - a full-stack spending tracker for Brunei built with TypeScript, React Native and Supabase (solo build, used daily on my own phone; App Store release in progress). Repo
Right now I work with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and I build my own projects in TypeScript, mostly with React Native / Expo on the frontend and Supabase (Postgres) with Deno edge functions behind it. I'm picking up React, Node.js and Express through The Odin Project's Full Stack JavaScript track. The track rounds out with deeper JavaScript and SQL, so over time I expect to be comfortable across a full TypeScript and JavaScript stack, from React web and mobile frontends to Postgres-backed APIs.
Currently learning (The Odin Project, Full Stack JavaScript):

Let's build tools that make life a little easier.
