fix(automations): Say that send_message is how an automation run posts - #2213
Merged
Merged
Conversation
A scheduled reminder whose instruction said "Post a reminder in this channel" ended as misconfigured. The run searched for a Slack posting tool, found none, and blocked the automation, although finishAutomationRun offered send_message. Say in the finishAutomationRun description that send_message is the only way that a run posts, so a missing Slack posting tool does not make the run misconfigured. Add a delivery eval for this instruction. Co-Authored-By: Daniel Griesser <dgriesser@sentry.io>

A weekly scheduled reminder ("Post a reminder in this channel asking everyone to reply in this message's thread…") ended as
misconfiguredwith the reason "This run has no Slack message-posting tool available". This blocked the automation. The runtime did offer
send_message. In the run'sfinishAutomationRunspan (trace1cfd777ad6504e5fa3a7afe8d5781d51,dispatch_fbd5321fc33abc92297770d3df55539f, 0.256.0), the tool description includessend_message, and the destination channel is set. The model (openai/gpt-6-luna) calledsearchMcpToolsandsearchToolsto find a Slack posting tool, found none, and declaredmisconfigured. Themisconfiguredguidance says "a provider, tool, account, or access that the job needs is missing", and "Post … in this channel" read as needing a separate tool. In the last 14 days, mostfinishAutomationRuncalls with send outcomes do post, so this is a judgment miss and not a wiring bug. This PR adds one sentence to the
send_messagevariant of thefinishAutomationRundescription:send_messageis the only way that the run posts, so a missing Slack posting tool does not make the runmisconfigured. It also adds a scheduler delivery eval for the "post in this channel" instruction and lists it in the scheduler eval README.Remaining risk: this is model guidance, so it lowers the chance of a repeat and does not remove it. A runtime guard that rejects
misconfiguredfor "no posting tool" reasons would need reason text matching, so I left it out.via daniel.
