🔒 Fix insecure temporary file vulnerability - #33
Conversation
🎯 **What:** Replaced predictable and insecure `.tmp` file paths and explicit `fs::remove_file` calls in `quality.rs`, `pipeline.rs`, and `catalog.rs` with secure randomized temporary files using the `tempfile` crate. Also resolved Cargo dependencies issues that were breaking the build on rust 1.94⚠️ **Risk:** Predictable temporary files (`file.tmp`) followed by non-exclusive file creation (`File::create`) can be exploited by an attacker to create symlinks at the predictable path, causing the application to overwrite unintended files with its payload, leading to data corruption or potential privilege escalation. 🛡️ **Solution:** Replaced `tmp_path_for` and `File::create` with `tempfile::Builder::new().prefix(".tmp").tempfile_in(parent_dir)`. This method leverages standard OS secure file creation mechanisms (like `O_EXCL`) to ensure the file is exclusively created in the destination directory, after which it is safely atomically renamed with `temp_file.persist(path)`.
