Bitboard Chess engine currently being written in Rust.
This chess engine is a rewrite of the previous version I wrote when I was at university. The core engine was originally built in TypeScript, but as the complexity of the logic increased, I recognised the need to transition performance-critical components to Rust before introducing AI and machine learning algorithms.
The following serves as a rough outline of what will be implemented.
✅ done | 🔄 in progress | ⏳ planned
Current features:
- ✅ HTML5 Canvas chessboard
- ✅ Rust websocket server
Future plans:
- 🔄 Rewrite board logic in Rust
- 🔄 Perft (performance test, move path enumeration)
- ⏳ AI opponent (minimax, alpha-beta pruning)
- ⏳ ML-based board evaluation
- ⏳ Reinforcement learning for self-play
