All notable changes to RustChan will be documented in this file.

## RustChan 1.7.0 — 2026-10-08

### Upgrade notes

- Back up the complete data directory before upgrading. Native Linux updates retain the signed-package verification, pre-upgrade snapshots and full data-and-binary rollback introduced in 1.6.6; the minimum updater remains 1.6.6. Containers, macOS, Windows and custom installations continue to use their deployment tools.
- Rust 1.99 remains the minimum supported compiler.

### Improved

- Improved thumbnail delivery and caching while preserving board permissions, private-media access checks and existing preview formats.
- Refined thread controls, post actions and archive navigation, including consistent handling of locked, archived, sticky and pruned threads.
- Refreshed Frutiger Aero and refined the other themes, with focused readability improvements for Forest and Terminal.
- Updated Rust dependencies within the existing dependency set.

### Fixed

- Release settings locks explicitly when configuration operations finish, preventing duplicate process descriptors from delaying subsequent saves or restarts.
- Hardened posting and thread lifecycle transactions, retry receipts, reply counters, retention and recoverable media publication/deletion. Posting checks current thread state and board policy before committing.
- Hardened hostile input handling across uploads, paths, redirects, administrator authentication/settings, backups and restores.
- Bounded expensive search, CAPTCHA and request work, strengthened rate limiting and connection handling, and expanded security and lifecycle regression coverage.

## RustChan 1.6.6 — 2026-10-03

- Fixed migration of supported earlier package baselines, including 1.6.0 databases missing the two newer post-query indexes. Unknown schema drift remains rejected; upgrades preserve existing content and retain full data-and-binary rollback.
