This issue collects installation and runtime feedback for a new ProxmoxVED LXC script for ep1cman/unifi-protect-backup.
The script installs the application directly in an unprivileged Debian 13 LXC and backs up UniFi Protect motion and smart-detection event clips through rclone. The initial destination is local storage; rclone can subsequently be configured for Amazon S3 or another supported remote.
Test scope
Fresh installation on Proxmox VE
Connection to UniFi Protect using a dedicated local account
Creation of event clips
Upload through an Amazon S3 rclone remote
Application update while preserving .env, rclone configuration, and SQLite state
Known status
amd64: testing requested
arm64: not yet verified
Please include the Proxmox VE version, CPU architecture, installation mode, and relevant service logs when reporting results. Do not post credentials, AWS keys, or the contents of the .env file.
Create a dedicated local UniFi Protect user with access to the cameras before installation.
The initial configuration stores clips locally. Configure an rclone remote and update RCLONE_DESTINATION in /opt/unifi-protect-backup/.env for off-site storage.
The default container disk is 4 GB. Select Advanced Install to choose a larger disk when retaining clips locally.
Note: This is not in the official repo yet—it's just a dev version! After merging into ProxmoxVE, it will need to be recreated.
