Summary

  • rename the canonical Forge CLI option from --target to --generator
  • keep --target as a hidden compatibility alias
  • align the internal option type, CLI tests, WASM tests, and package documentation
  • leave Cargo compilation target terminology unchanged

Rationale

The option selects the implementation that generates files: either the built-in TypeScript generator or a WASM generator plugin. --generator describes that role directly; --target suggests an output platform or audience and becomes especially ambiguous alongside conditional API filtering.

Existing invocations continue to work through the compatibility alias, while help text and documentation guide new usage toward --generator. This does not change the WIT or plugin APIs.

Verification

  • rustup run 1.99.0 cargo fmt --check
  • rustup run 1.99.0 cargo test --all-features
