fix(api): redact credentials and tokens from debug HTTP logs - #996
Conversation
With debug mode on, the SDK logged every request and response body and all headers. That put device tokens (Authorization), form-encoded passwords and OTP codes, session JWTs, TOTP secrets and backup codes into logcat, where any app with READ_LOGS or a bug report can read them. Only two requests were tagged SensitiveRequest. RequestLoggingMiddleware.create() now builds the logging interceptor with Authorization, Cookie and Set-Cookie redacted, and scrubs known secret form fields and JSON keys from each log line. JSON "code" is left alone because responses use it for error codes. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

BackupCodeResource returns its codes under "codes", which the backup_codes pattern missed. Scalar "code" values stay visible because the pattern only matches arrays. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

rotating_token_nonce is sent as a query parameter on sign-in and sign-up reloads, so it can follow '?' rather than '&'. The field pattern now accepts either boundary. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The redaction covers the headers, form fields, query params, JSON keys and backup codes the API sends, and the tests run a real OkHttp chain. All bot threads are addressed. Non-blocking: redaction relies on a fixed list of key names, so a comment next to those lists saying new secret params must be added would help. LGTM.

RequestLoggingRedactionTestsends a sign-in request carrying a device token, password, OTP code and ticket, and returns a response with a JWT, TOTP secret, otpauth URI, backup codes and an error code. It asserts that no secret appears in the log while the identifier and error code still do. The test failed before this change because every secret was printed, and passes after it../gradlew :source:api:testDebugUnitTest :source:api:spotlessCheck :source:api:detektpasses on JDK 21 (762 tests, 0 failures).Overlap with open PRs
