It checks generated ABI dumps against checked-in API declarations and adds a workflow job that runs the checks. ChangesKotlin API compatibility checks
Priority: ➖ Normal Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes Change: Other Suggested reviewers: Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to This change only adds build and CI checks for the public ABI and does not change shipped SDK code. One gap remains: public classes compiled from Java, such as the generated BuildConfig, are not included in the ABI dump. Changes to them would therefore pass the check without notice. It is safe to merge if the owners accept this gap or plan a follow-up to cover the Java output. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 5✅ Passed checks (5 passed)

AGP 9.4.1 Android library generated BuildConfig Java compile output directory KotlinAndroidCompilation compileTaskProvider destinationDirectory
💡 Result:
`KotlinAndroidCompilation.compileTaskProvider` points to the **Kotlin compile task**; its `destinationDirectory` is Kotlin compiler output (compiled classes), **not** the directory containing generated `BuildConfig.java`.
For a conventional Android variant, the generated Java source is typically under:
```text
<module>/build/generated/source/buildConfig/<variant>/
```
The package path and `BuildConfig.java` are beneath that directory. Google’s source documents that layout, but the cited implementation is not AGP 9.4.1, so I can’t confirm it as a guaranteed 9.4.1 path. ([android.googlesource.com](https://android.googlesource.com/platform/tools/base/%2B/9fba95348ef762fd9a7c82ac332d119684a74bcb/build-system/gradle/src/main/groovy/com/android/build/gradle/BasePlugin.groovy?utm_source=openai))
The AGP 9.4 API reference confirms that 9.4.1 is the current release, but the sources I found don’t establish the exact 9.4.1 `BuildConfig` output path or tie it to `compileTaskProvider.destinationDirectory`. ([developer.android.com](https://developer.android.com/reference/tools/gradle-api?utm_source=openai))

🌐 Web query:
site:android.googlesource.com/platform/tools/base AGP 9.4.1 KotlinJvmCompile destinationDirectory compileReleaseJavaWithJavac output classes built-in Kotlin
💡 Result:
**Likely answer:** with built-in Kotlin, Kotlin classes are emitted by a separate Kotlin compilation task; they are **not** part of `compileReleaseJavaWithJavac`’s output. An AGP test records the release Java classes under `intermediates/javac/.../compileReleaseJavaWithJavac/classes` and Kotlin classes separately under `intermediates/built_in_kotlinc/.../compileReleaseKotlin/classes`. ([android.googlesource.com](https://android.googlesource.com/platform/tools/base/%2B/c820bb94b7aa889a80972109168c9c6723103731%5E%21/?utm_source=openai))
The sources I found don’t establish the exact `KotlinJvmCompile.destinationDirectory` value for **AGP 9.4.1** specifically. The available evidence is from AGP built-in-Kotlin tests and AGP 9.4 development references, not a version-pinned 9.4.1 source or task inspection. So the paths above illustrate the split, but don’t prove the exact destination for your build. Include the release Java output in apiBuild.
source/api enables BuildConfig and declares SDK_VERSION. AGP 9.4.1 compiles this public generated Java class through the separate Java compilation output, while apiBuild receives only the Kotlin compilation output. apiCheck can therefore omit com.clerk.sdk.BuildConfig and miss Java-only public API changes.
Add the release Java compilation output and its producing task to inputClassesDirs for each tracked library.

…in dumps Adds api/*.api reference dumps for :source:api, :source:ui and :source:telemetry, and an apiCheck task in each module that runs as part of check. Telemetry (KMP) uses KGP's abiValidation. Android libraries on AGP 9 built-in Kotlin are not wired by KGP or the BCV plugin, so the root build registers BCV's task types against the release Kotlin compilation. Drops the reflection test that guarded ClerkTelemetryEnvironment's constructors; the telemetry dump pins both exact signatures.
The Compose compiler emits public ComposableSingletons$<File>Kt classes with getLambda$<hash>$<module> getters for hoisted lambdas, including those in private previews. They are not callable API and their hashes churn with unrelated edits, so apiBuild strips them from the dump.
Telemetry became a plain Android library in #1019, so KGP's abiValidation no longer applies to it. Register it with the same BCV tasks as :source:api and :source:ui, move its dump to api/telemetry.api, and regenerate all three dumps for the API that landed on main since (typed Strategy, OAuthResult.Outcome, unknown enum fallbacks, the OkHttp telemetry constructor).

Why
Finding #6 of the architecture review: there is no API-breakage check. A
feat(api)!change shipped in a patch release, and a hand-written reflection test was later added to restore one telemetry constructor. This PR adds an ABI check with checked-in dumps so that any change to the public binary API shows up as a reviewable diff and fails CI until someone records it on purpose.This is PR 1 of 3:
.apidumps, wired intocheckand CIexplicitApi()with explicit visibility modifiers (no ABI change)Scope
source/api/api/api.api,source/ui/api/ui.api,source/telemetry/api/android/telemetry.api: reference dumps of the current public ABI. These were generated frommainwith no source changes (regenerated after rebasing ontomainat 7ffc6d3, which picks up theClerk.authfacade additions such astransferToSignIn/transferToSignUp,EnterpriseSsoBuilder.redirectUrl, thesendEmailLink(redirectUri)overloads andClerk.setDeviceToken).:source:telemetry(KMP) uses KGP's built-inabiValidation()(checkKotlinAbi/updateKotlinAbi).:source:apiand:source:uiuse the root build script (build.gradle.kts). The root build registers BCV 0.18.1's public task types (KotlinApiBuildTask,KotlinApiCompareTask) and points them at the release Kotlin compilation. I couldn't use the built-in setup for these two modules:abiValidationnor the BCV plugin registers anything for Android libraries. KGP 2.4.20 does register the tasks, but they get no classes and no defaultreferenceDumpDir. The BCV plugin waits for thekotlin-androidplugin id, which is never applied.apply falseat the root. It is used to get its task classes onto the classpath../gradlew apiCheck(part ofcheck) and./gradlew apiDump. Telemetry's versions are aliases for the KGP tasks.apiBuildtask strips Compose compiler-generatedComposableSingletons$<File>Ktclasses (and theirgetLambda$<hash>$uigetters) from the dump. They are public in bytecode but not callable API, and their hashes change whenever a lambda in the file (including in a private preview) changes, so they would churnui.apion unrelated edits. BCV'signoredClassesonly accepts exact names, so this is adoLastthat drops those class blocks from the generated file.api-checkjob in.github/workflows/android-test.ymlruns./gradlew apiCheck. The job runs withpermissions: contents: readand checks out withpersist-credentials: false, since it executes build scripts from the PR.ClerkTelemetryEnvironmentTest. It used reflection to check thatClerkTelemetryEnvironmenthas a no-arg constructor and a 5-parameter constructor. The telemetry dump now pins both constructors by their exact JVM descriptors, which is stricter than the parameter count the test checked, and any change to them shows up in the.apidiff. Keeping the test would only duplicate a weaker form of that check.Blast Radius
