Handle the "in" operator correctly when the field value is nil.

@JamesMasonRC Great job! I reported and opened a PR to fix the issue with the in operator with nil values. Please take a look if you can. I would appreciate any feedback there and if you have any suggestion I will be pleased to apply it. That way we can keep the scope of both PR isolated.
