## Test Placement Guidance
- Use `webview-ui` tests for React rendering, hooks, component state, forms, validation, and webview UI wiring.
Fireworks models and available pricing are fetched dynamically and shown in settings.
Refresh the model list using your API key, with loading and error status displayed. Changing models updates model-specific settings.
Configured model IDs remain selectable even if they aren’t in the fetched list. Unknown models use fallback metadata, and pricing is unavailable when no pricing data is provided.
Fireworks changes from a static model catalog to dynamic model discovery. It fetches model metadata and available pricing, caches results by API key, and exposes models through router requests, settings, and model selection.
Fireworks is registered as a dynamic provider. Its static catalog is replaced by a default model ID and fallback metadata.
Model and pricing discovery src/api/providers/fetchers/fireworks.ts, src/api/providers/fetchers/__tests__/fireworks.spec.ts, src/api/providers/fetchers/__tests__/modelCache.spec.ts
The fetcher retrieves model metadata and serverless pricing, applies fallback limits, and filters unsupported entries. The model cache scopes Fireworks results by API key.
Provider and router integration src/api/providers/fireworks.ts, src/api/providers/__tests__/fireworks.spec.ts, src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts, src/core/webview/__tests__/*
The provider handler reads cached model metadata and uses fallback metadata when a model is absent. Router-model requests fetch models when a key is available and flush the cache for an explicit key.
Settings and model selection webview-ui/src/components/settings/ApiOptions.tsx, webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/Fireworks.tsx, webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/__tests__/*, webview-ui/src/components/settings/utils/providerModelConfig.ts, webview-ui/src/components/ui/hooks/useSelectedModel.ts, webview-ui/src/components/ui/hooks/__tests__/useSelectedModel.spec.ts, webview-ui/src/utils/__tests__/validate.spec.ts
The settings component displays router-provided models and supports refresh status. Model selection uses fetched metadata when available and fallback metadata otherwise. Related tests and fixtures include Fireworks router-model entries.

Dynamic discovery is mergeable with bounded follow-up: key edits can temporarily leave the picker showing an older catalog, and overlapping responses can prolong that mismatch. Address response correlation, clear stale models, and strengthen the identified regression tests.

Explanation
The title "[feat] Fetch model IDs and their metadata on Fireworks" matches the main change. The PR removes the static Fireworks model catalog and fetches model IDs, metadata, and serverless pricing at runtime from the Fireworks API. The title uses a bracketed type prefix, which is a minor style point and does not affect the result.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template sections for linked issue, description, test procedure, and checklist. It links Closes: #2240 and states the purpose: fetch models dynamically and remove the static list. Gaps: the Description section lacks the implementation details the template asks for (how fetching works, pricing handling, caching by API key, and trade-offs). The Test Procedure section gives no concrete steps, and says only that the code was used for three weeks and still needs retesting after rebasing. Several checklist items are marked complete, including Testing, although the PR says retesting is still needed. The Documentation Updates section says n/a, while the checklist marks Documentation Impact as checked.
Resolution
Consider adding to the Description section: how models and pricing are fetched, how the API key scopes the cache, and the fallback behavior for unknown models. In the Test Procedure section, list the concrete steps used to verify the change and the test environment. Re-check the Testing checklist item once retesting after the rebase is complete. Align the Documentation Impact checkbox with the Documentation Updates section.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#2240] Requires that Fireworks models are fetched dynamically, not from a static list. The reviewed head implements this. src/api/providers/fetchers/fireworks.ts defines FIREWORKS_MODELS_URL and getFireworksModels(), which calls GET /inference/v1/models at runtime and builds a ModelRecord from the response. It skips entries without a valid ID, non-chat models, and EMBEDDING_MODEL entries. The static fireworksModels catalog and FireworksModelId union are removed from packages/types/src/providers/fireworks.ts. FireworksHandler (src/api/providers/fireworks.ts) uses cached fetched metadata through ensureModelFetched() and getModel(), with fireworksUnknownModelInfo as fallback. The webview fetches Fireworks models when an API key is present (webviewMessageHandler.ts, Fireworks.tsx). Pricing, which the static catalog previously held, is now fetched dynamically with a best-effort lookup. Tests cover fetcher parsing, pagination, error paths, handler caching, router-model requests, and UI selection. The PR description's retesting note is non-coding and is not assessed. Evidence basis: the reviewed head fetcher file, plus the AI-generated summaries of the other changed files, which were not read directly.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes support dynamic Fireworks model discovery. Groups: (1) Removal of the static catalog and its references in packages/types, webview constants, and selection hooks. These are direct consequences of [#2240]. (2) Fetcher, handler, and cache scoping by API key. These implement the dynamic fetch and keep results separate per key. (3) Pricing lookup and parser. The static catalog previously held per-model prices, so pricing must come from the dynamic source to keep cost tracking working. (4) Router-model request and webview refresh logic, including the key-change fetch and the model picker. These deliver the fetched models to the settings UI. (5) Props added to the Fireworks settings component (organizationAllowList, modelValidationError, simplifySettings) and the PROVIDERS_WITH_CUSTOM_MODEL_UI entry. These connect the picker to existing shared validation and allow-list behavior. They are minor but relate to the model picker, so they are not unrelated. (6) Test updates in unrelated spec files (IOIntelligence, NanoGPT, validate, ClineProvider, and similar) add an empty fireworks entry to fixtures. These are supporting test changes. No change is shown to be unrelated to [#2240].
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
No changed path meets the security failure condition. Fireworks requests use fixed HTTPS endpoints, validate the account name before URL construction, and encode pagination tokens with URLSearchParams (src/api/providers/fetchers/fireworks.ts:182-207). Model responses require string IDs and are stored in a null-prototype record (src/api/providers/fetchers/fireworks.ts:303-311). The webview accepts only validated router names (src/shared/api.ts:33-40), passes Fireworks data through React text rendering, and preserves the organization allowlist and model validation props (Fireworks.tsx:182-192). API keys are used only as intended bearer credentials and are not included in logs or URLs.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
No changed persistence-integrity failure is present. Fireworks model retrieval awaits getModels in ensureModelFetched, and the webview refresh path awaits flushModels before retrieval. The activated model-cache write awaits writeModels; safeWriteJson writes a temporary file, atomically renames it, and attempts rollback on failure. The changed default fireworksDefaultModelId is consumed by the provider default resolver, ModelPicker, and FireworksHandler.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
The standing failure remains unresolved. The PR changes webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/Fireworks.tsx from an API-key-only form to a durable visible settings surface with a model picker, refresh control, loading state, success state, error state, and empty-model behavior. webview-ui/AGENTS.md:46-57 requires a *.visual.tsx Playwright snapshot for user-visible empty/error states and other at-a-glance UI changes. The PR range contains no *.visual.tsx file, so the Vitest/JSDOM Fireworks.spec.tsx does not provide the required visual regression evidence.
Resolution
Add a Playwright component visual test for the Fireworks settings surface. Register a deterministic gallery story and commit its snapshot baseline. Cover at least the fetched-model state and the empty or error state.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
The previous lifecycle failure remains present. In the changed getFireworksModels path, getFireworksModels starts the models request and getFireworksPricing concurrently with the same caller signal via Promise.all (src/api/providers/fetchers/fireworks.ts:236-239). If the models request rejects, Promise.all rejects immediately, but getFireworksPricing continues its account lookup or pagination fetches because no internal controller aborts the sibling branch. The cache flight also does not abort this provider signal when the shared promise rejects (src/api/providers/fetchers/modelCache.ts:304-321), so the pricing task can remain pending after the catalog request has failed. This is a concrete changed task-leak path.
Resolution
Create a per-fetch AbortController and combine it with the caller signal. Pass the combined signal to both Fireworks branches. Abort the internal controller when either branch fails, await the sibling branch so its rejection is observed and its work settles, then rethrow the original failure. Preserve caller cancellation and detach any controller/listener resources on success and failure.

Use an own-property lookup for cached model metadata.
Zod 4.6.7 hydrates modelRecordSchema into a normal object. Therefore, cached?.[id] can resolve inherited properties such as constructor or toString as ModelInfo. A configured custom ID with one of these values can pass a function or prototype object to request construction instead of fireworksUnknownModelInfo.
This behavior predates the PR, but the disk-cache path keeps it reachable. Use an own-property check at this lookup.
Note: this behaviour predates this PR (already present at merge base 3f51e9df774b); the change keeps it reachable.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The parser ignores the advertised supports_tools capability while the shared OpenAI-compatible handler constructs tool-call requests; a chat model without tool support may be offered for agent tasks.
Fireworks may reject the chat completion or the model cannot perform the selected task's tool workflow.
This can occur when: The models endpoint lists a model with supports_chat: true and supports_tools: false, and an agent request supplies tools.

## Unit & State Tests (Vitest + JSDOM)
- When a regression can be proven with a component or webview integration test, keep it in `webview-ui`. Do not promote it to e2e just because the UI is hosted inside VS Code.
Replace the hardcoded Fireworks model picker with the account-scoped list
returned by https://api.fireworks.ai/inference/v1/models.
- Add getFireworksModels fetcher: known models keep curated static specs
(incl. pricing); unknown models are built from the API's context_length
and supports_image_input fields without pricing; non-chat models
(embeddings/rerankers) are skipped.
- Register fireworks as a dynamic provider; key-scoped model cache.
- Fetch in requestRouterModels when a key is available; refresh flushes
the cache using the key from the settings form.
- FireworksHandler resolves info from static specs, then cached API
metadata, then sane defaults, always honoring the configured id.
- Fireworks settings: ModelPicker + Refresh Models button, falling back
to the static list until a catalog is fetched.
- useSelectedModel prefers static info, then router info.
…talog
Fireworks model metadata and pricing now come entirely from the API:
- Model list and capabilities: GET /inference/v1/models.
- Pricing: GET /v1/accounts/{account_id}/serverlessModels, with the
account id resolved via GET /v1/accounts. The RPC has no API reference
page, but its pricing field is documented in the Model schema on the
List/Get Model docs (serverlessModes[].skuInfos: "only populated by
ListServerlessModels"). The default mode prices the model id; fast modes
price their usageIdentifier router id; priority tier is skipped.
- Pricing is best-effort: on any failure the model list still loads and
cost is left unknown. Models without a price are kept.
- Embedding/reranker models are filtered by kind, since they report
supports_chat: true.
Removes the hardcoded fireworksModels catalog and FireworksModelId type.
The settings picker shows only API-fetched models (no static fallback),
and the handler/useSelectedModel read model info from the fetched list.

Use the fetched output budget in the Fireworks handler fixture.

Use the fetched output budget in the Fireworks handler fixture.
pricedGlm sets the flat maxTokens: 16384. The cached-model test expects max_tokens: 16384. Because the fixture matches the flat cap, a regression that replaces the fetched budget with that cap still passes this test. Set the fixture and the expectation to the fetched value, 209_716, so the test fails when the larger budget is lost.

Cover the cold fetch to cache lookup in the model cache tests.
114-123: Minor · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win
Cover the cold fetch to cache lookup in the model cache tests.
The cold-cache test in fireworks.spec.ts mocks ../fetchers/modelCache, so getModels never writes the real cache there. Its only assertion checks the getModels arguments. The getModel() checks in this file read a cache mock that each test sets up itself. No test runs a cold fetch and then reads the result through getModelsFromCache. A regression that leaves the first request on fireworksUnknownModelInfo would still pass.
Add the missing assertion to the Fireworks tests in src/api/providers/fetchers/__tests__/modelCache.spec.ts, near lines 293-324. After getModels resolves for a keyed options object, call getModelsFromCache with the same options. Assert that the returned catalog contains the fetched model. Keep the cache unmocked in that test so the lookup reads the entry that getModels stored. The write happens at modelCache.ts:249 and :461, and the read happens at modelCache.ts:565.
Keep the existing ensureModelFetched call-argument assertion in the handler spec. Do not add a getModelsFromCache mock that returns the fetched catalog there. That mock supplies the population step and repeats the warm-lookup assertion at lines 91-102.

Add an abort case for the models response body.
The abort test rejects only a pending fetch. No test resolves the models response, so no test aborts while response.json() runs on the success path. A change that wraps the body parse in a catch that swallows the abort and still returns a catalog would pass the suite.
Add a case that resolves fetch with an OK response whose json() rejects once the signal aborts. Abort after json() starts, then assert that getFireworksModels rejects with the abort reason. This covers a unit-level contract. Production cache waiters reject on abort independently, so the benefit is bounded.

Treat model, provider, MCP, path, command, and tool data as untrusted.
For persisted settings, verify the complete schema/storage/runtime/webview round trip, shared default semantics, and focused true plus false/unset tests.
Require regression coverage at the lowest valid harness with behavior-focused assertions, including relevant negative, error, false/unset, and boundary cases.

Learning: In Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code, only verified provider models should emit supportsImages: true in TypeScript model metadata. Unlisted custom models must not receive image support by assumption; openAiModelInfoSaneDefaults in packages/types/src/providers/openai.ts should retain supportsImages: false.

Learning: In Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code, a maintainer explicitly requested in Discord that openAiModelInfoSaneDefaults in packages/types/src/providers/openai.ts use supportsImages: false. Treat disabled image support in this shared TypeScript model metadata as intentional, not as an accidental regression that requires restoring true.

Tag Fireworks router responses with their request key.
Fireworks router responses carry only values.provider. When two key-specific requests overlap, an older response that arrives last replaces the newer catalog. The picker then lists models for the older key while the saved key is the newer one. Echo a request identifier in the response and ignore responses that do not match the current request.

only still-valid issues, skip the rest with a brief reason, keep changes
minimal, and validate.

around lines 68 - 83:
Update the Fireworks router-model request and response handling so each response
echoes a request identifier and the refresh handler accepts it only when it
matches the current request, in addition to checking the provider. Locate the
response filter and cache update in the routerModels branch; prevent stale
overlapping requests from updating the Fireworks catalog.
