Closes: #1729

Description

RooCodeAPI.deleteProfile(name) never purged the profile from ProviderSettingsManager. It only rewrote ContextProxy keys, so the profile (secrets included) resurrected on every re-list: webview relaunch, getListApiConfiguration, and mode switching, which could even reactivate a deleted profile as the mode's saved config.

Closing that gap turned out to require more than the missing deleteConfig call. Review of the delete path found that the two delete entry points disagreed, and that neither removed the deleted profile's credentials from SecretStorage reliably. This PR now:

  1. Purges the profile from the manager on every delete path.
  2. Serializes the delete through the same mutation queue as profile saves and activations, with abort fences and a bounded timeout, so a concurrent upsertApiConfiguration can no longer save the profile back after the purge.
  3. Rolls the delete back when the replacement activation fails, so the manager and ContextProxy never disagree about which profiles exist (no "ghost" entries in the picker).
  4. Drops the per-mode bindings that pointed at the deleted profile, in both stores, instead of leaving a dangling id that silently no-ops on the next mode switch.
  5. Purges the deleted profile's own secret keys from the cache and from SecretStorage on both the active and the inactive branch. The keep-set is derived from the surviving profile's provider ownership, not from its blob: a blob written from an api.getConfiguration() snapshot is secret-less exactly when the live credential needs protecting, so a same-provider succession cannot delete the surviving profile's key. A cross-provider delete keeps nothing and still purges.
  6. Routes the webview deleteApiConfiguration handler through the same queued policy method as the extension API, so both entry points share the purge, the queue, and the rollback.
  7. Pins the secret-ownership discriminator to the manager, not to the provider name carried by the incoming write.

Test Procedure

New and updated tests, all mutation-proved against the previous head (source reverted, tests kept, each new behavioral test fails):

  • core/config/__tests__/ContextProxy.spec.ts (45 tests): stale-secret clear-out, partial-write preservation, per-key ownership application, explicit purge scoping, caller-resolved ownership, retired/unknown-provider fallback.
  • core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts (237 tests): delete/rollback/restore, abort and timeout fences, mode-binding purge, cross-provider secret purge, inactive-branch secret purge, same-provider succession (active and inactive), surviving-credential preservation, unreadable-survivor purge fallback, and the webview handler routing.
  • core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.apiHandlerRebuild.spec.ts (39 tests): stored-provider ownership discriminator end to end.
  • packages/types/src/__tests__/provider-settings.test.ts (86 tests): one owner per secret key, and the codebase-index credentials owned by no provider.

Verification on the final commit:

  • npx tsc --noEmit -p tsconfig.json (both src and packages/types) → 0 errors.
  • npx eslint --max-warnings=0 on every touched file → clean; src/eslint-suppressions.json unchanged (no entry added, no count raised).
  • Full src suite: 550 files passed, 3 skipped; 11848 tests passed, 37 skipped, 0 failed.
  • Mutation-testing budget for the changed executable lines: 451 / 500.
  • Local mocked-e2e subtasks suite: 12 passing, 0 failing, exit 0 (node esbuild.mjs rebuild first, then USE_MOCK=true TEST_FILE=subtasks.test node ./out/runTest.js). The three tests that previously hung 30 s each now pass in 4.4-5.8 s.

Security Disclosure

Findings from the security review that are pre-existing and deliberately not fixed here, disclosed so they are not mistaken for regressions of this PR:

  • updateSettings writes secret keys unvalidated. The webview updateSettings handler forwards every key of the payload to ContextProxy.setValue, including SECRET_STATE_KEYS entries and apiProvider. That path applies neither the discriminated profile parse nor the stale-secret clear-out, so a provider switch performed through it can leave the previous provider's credential in place. Bounded by the webview trust tier, which can already read every secret from the posted state. Fixing it means routing provider/secret changes through the profile save path, which is a separate behavioral change.
  • renameApiConfiguration is not atomic. It saves the webview's rendered snapshot under the new name, deletes the old name, then reactivates, with no queue and no re-read of the stored profile. A credential refreshed between snapshot and handler (for example a token refresh across profiles) can be overwritten by the stale snapshot. Fixing it means a queued renameProviderProfile that reads from the manager.
  • Caller-supplied profile id allows duplicate-id aliasing. saveConfig honors a caller-provided id, and the mode-binding carve-out keeps bindings alive whenever any profile still carries the deleted profile's id. That is correct for a rename, but two profiles can share an id (crafted webview write, or a settings import with colliding ids), and id-based resolution then picks the first match. Fixing it means rejecting or regenerating colliding ids, including on import.

What this PR does fix from that review: the webview delete path bypassing the queue and the rollback; the ownership discriminator trusting a caller-supplied provider; and the inactive delete branch never purging the deleted profile's secrets.

One review-driven change was corrected after it regressed the mocked e2e suite. The first version of the explicit delete purge used a blob-derived keep-set on the active branch and no keep-set at all on the inactive branch. Deleting an inactive profile whose blob declared a key the surviving active profile also uses then deleted the live credential: two profiles of one provider necessarily share a single SecretStorage slot per key name (each secret key has exactly one owning provider), so "the deleted profile's key" is the survivor's credential. The keep-set on both branches is now derived from the surviving profile's provider ownership, which the api.getConfiguration() round-trip cannot strip. A blob-derived keep-set cannot work here, because that round-trip rewrites a profile without its secret fields while keeping apiProvider. Confidentiality is unchanged: a cross-provider delete keeps nothing, a differently-named key is still purged, and an unreadable surviving profile falls back to purging every key the deleted profile declared.

Additional Notes

The webview delete flow and the extension API delete flow now share one policy method (ClineProvider.deleteProviderProfile), so the two entry points cannot drift again. The webview handler keeps its existing confirmation modal, its error toast, and its mode-map mirror.

Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Deleting an inactive provider profile leaves the active selection unchanged. Deleting the active profile switches to an available replacement, and the last remaining profile cannot be deleted. If switching fails or times out, the deleted profile and its credentials are restored; a late completion does not change the current profile.
    • Removed profiles no longer leave behind mode assignments, and assignments are restored if deletion fails. Provider credentials are retained or cleared according to their provider ownership. Partial provider settings updates now preserve credentials belonging to the selected provider.

Profile deletion now updates manager storage, mode bindings, provider settings, and webview state. Active-profile deletion selects and activates a replacement. Failure and timeout paths attempt bounded restoration and reconciliation. Provider-setting writes apply provider-specific secret ownership rules.

Deletion recovery can overwrite newer profile changes, remove shared credentials, or leave the running task using a different profile from the selected one. Resolve these recovery and concurrency defects before merging unless their risks are explicitly accepted.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 3a074

The change fixes profiles reappearing after deletion. A failed or overlapping deletion could still leave the profile list out of sync with stored profiles, making recovery difficult. No broader access to credentials was identified.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · reliability · inferred: A purge can complete before the selected-profile state is written. If that later write fails, the public API can still list the deleted name, but repeating deletion fails the manager’s not-found guard; concurrent deletions can likewise leave metadata based on an obsolete profile list. This weakens recovery of credential-deletion state compared with the prior ordering.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The added store operation is limited to the named profile entry, including settings held in that entry. The inspected public call path does not add a caller or expand the profile-name lookup.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The public wrapper requires a profile entry for the requested name, and the secret-backed manager independently rejects missing and last-profile deletions. No new identity or authorization transition is visible in the changed call path.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — After a successful purge followed by a context-write failure, a repeated public deletion can find the stale metadata entry but fail the manager’s missing-profile check. This is a recovery gap in the new cross-store transition, not evidence of newly expanded credential access.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define a recoverable deletion transition across the profile store and context state, including reconciliation after interrupted writes and serialization with other profile mutations. Separately assess whether deleting the active profile should replace its effective settings and clear obsolete mode references.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue [#1729] requires RooCodeAPI.deleteProfile(name) to purge the profile from ProviderSettingsManager. The shared deleteProviderProfile policy now routes extension API and webview deletion through the manager purge. The implementation also removes mode bindings, purges profile secrets, serializes mutations, and restores state after failed replacement activation. These changes prevent the reported profile resurrection. The summary reports focused regression tests for these behaviors.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The deletion implementation and its related tests remain within [#1729]. However, ClineProvider.spec.ts also adds tests for chat focus selection, state-post sequencing, history computation, throttling, flushing, disposal, provider disposal, task cleanup, and no-floating-promises handling. The change summary does not connect these test additions to profile deletion. They are unrelated scope in this pull request.

Resolution

Remove the unrelated test additions from ClineProvider.spec.ts, or move them to a separate pull request with its own objective and issue.

Full details: Security Boundaries

Explanation

The prior allowlist bypass remains in the changed active-profile deletion path. In src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:2311-2319, deletion selects the first remaining configured profile, or any remaining profile, without checking ProfileValidator.isProfileAllowed. It then calls activateProviderProfileUnlocked at lines 2339-2343. That method writes the selected profile settings and activates it at lines 2812-2829 without an allowlist check. A plausible trigger is an organization allowlist that permits the active profile but excludes the only remaining profile: deleteProfile(activeName) activates the excluded profile and writes its credentials. ProfileValidator.isProfileAllowed rejects providers or models absent from the allowlist (src/shared/ProfileValidator.ts:4-23).

Resolution

Before deleting an active profile, load the current organizationAllowList and validate each replacement candidate with ProfileValidator.isProfileAllowed using the complete stored profile settings. Select only an allowed replacement. If no allowed replacement exists, reject before deleteConfig, ContextProxy writes, activation, or task rewiring. Add a regression test for an excluded sole replacement.

Full details: Persistence Integrity

Explanation

The previous persistence failure remains in the changed delete path. For inactive deletion, ProviderSettingsManager.deleteConfig commits at ClineProvider.ts:2244-2245, then contextProxy.setValues runs at 2298-2303. ContextProxy.setValues uses Promise.all at ContextProxy.ts:690-693, so one state write can commit before another rejects. The rollback receives deletedProfileConfig at 2391-2395, but the inactive snapshot is only the block-local undoConfig at 2231; it cannot restore the deleted manager profile or removed mode bindings. A failed mode-state write can therefore reject the deletion after permanently deleting the profile. The active path also newly invokes activateProviderProfileUnlocked at 2343. That method rewires the current task and persists its sticky profile/history at 2846-2853, then posts state at 2857-2859. If that post or the later delete post at 2380 rejects, rollback restores manager and ContextProxy state but does not restore the task API configuration, sticky profile name, or persisted history item. The task remains bound to the replacement profile while the profile stores are restored.

Resolution

Capture the inactive undoConfig in the outer rollback state and restore it, its removed mode bindings, and both stores after any partial ContextProxy failure. Make the multi-key ContextProxy update atomic where possible, or compensate every write that committed before a later write failed. Before active replacement activation, snapshot the current task API configuration, sticky profile name, and history item. Restore all three when activation or either final state post fails. Add regression tests for inactive partial ContextProxy failure and active late postStateToWebview failure after task-history persistence.

Full details: Regression Evidence

Explanation

The late activation-failure branch still lacks focused manager-state coverage. deleteProviderProfile purges the manager at ClineProvider.ts:2336, activates the replacement at :2343, and can then fail during setModeConfig; rollback restores the profile through saveConfig and activateProfile (:2649-2653). The focused test at ClineProvider.spec.ts:4389-4410 injects this rejection but checks only ContextProxy settings and the active name. It does not verify the restored manager profile, original ID, provider, credential, active pointer, profile list, or listApiConfigMeta. The earlier manager assertions cover failure before replacement writes, not this late failure.

Resolution

Extend the test at src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts:4389 to retain the manager fixture state. After the setModeConfig rejection, assert that the manager contains current-config with current-id, the Anthropic provider, and current-key; assert the manager active pointer and profile list; and assert ContextProxy.getValues().listApiConfigMeta, currentApiConfigName, and provider settings match the pre-delete state. Keep the rejection assertion to prove the failure occurs after replacement ContextProxy writes.

Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup

Explanation

The prior lifecycle race remains. In deleteProviderProfile, the delete body uses the default abort-on-timeout queue behavior (ClineProvider.ts:2206, with queue advancement from :338-346). On timeout, the caller rejects while the body may still run. The catch waits in :2390 before enqueueing restoreDeletedProviderProfile, so a queued activateProviderProfile can complete during that wait; the later restore then writes the old profile and ContextProxy state over the newer activation. The inactive branch has the same race: after timeout, the abandoned body directly calls undoCommittedProviderProfilePurge at :2250-2255 and then writes ContextProxy state at :2261-2264 after the queue has advanced. This is changed cancellation-path work that can overwrite or duplicate a newer lifecycle mutation.

Resolution

Enqueue the rollback immediately when deletion fails or times out. Make the queued rollback await the delete body with a bounded wait before restoring state. Move undoCommittedProviderProfilePurge into that queued rollback instead of calling it from the abandoned delete body. Add generation or cancellation checks so late manager, ContextProxy, task, and mode writes cannot overwrite a newer activation.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The pull request description is largely incomplete for the repository template. It does not provide the required Related GitHub Issue, Description, Test Procedure, checklist, documentation impact, or contributor contact details. It mainly explains why this pull request should close in favor of #2266.

Resolution

Replace the current description with the repository template. Add an approved issue link, a summary of the implementation, reproducible test steps and environment details, the completed checklist, documentation impact, and any relevant additional notes.

What: add a negative spec to the deleteProviderProfile suite that makes the mocked providerSettingsManager.deleteConfig reject with the manager's not-found error and asserts the error propagates out of deleteProviderProfile while no ContextProxy write occurs (contextProxy.setValues never called, globalState.update call count unchanged).
Why: the PR body claims the manager's not-found/last-config guards fail fast before any ContextProxy state is written, but no test pinned that ordering, so a future refactor that moved the purge after the ContextProxy write or swallowed the manager error would pass the whole suite. Verified the new spec fails under an ordering mutation (setValues before deleteConfig) and passes at head.

…e profile

What: deleting the active provider profile now routes the replacement
through the existing activateProviderProfile path (the same routine the
webview uses when a user switches profiles) instead of only rewriting
the currentApiConfigName and listApiConfigMeta pointers in ContextProxy.

Why: the pointer-only update left the effective provider settings, the
mode config, and current-task wiring stale, so the session kept running
on the deleted profile's configuration. Activation through the standard
path applies the replacement's provider settings, persists the mode
config, and re-syncs task wiring, ending in the same state as a user
activation.

Impact: the secrets purge (providerSettingsManager.deleteConfig) still
runs and fails fast before any ContextProxy write; deleting a non-active
profile is unchanged. Active-deletion specs now assert the effective
provider settings and mode-config persistence, not just the name
pointers.

…view delete through the queue

What:
- Route the webview deleteApiConfiguration handler through
deleteProviderProfile so it shares the mutation queue, the rollback, and
the secret purge the extension API path already had.
- Resolve the secret-ownership discriminator from the manager instead of the
incoming slice's apiProvider: setProviderSettings takes an optional
expectedProvider, and every activation/persist path passes the provider it
  read from the stored blob.
- Purge a deleted profile's own secret keys explicitly on both delete
branches, instead of relying on a later write's ownership inference. Keys
the replacement profile's own blob declares are kept, so a same-provider
succession cannot delete the replacement's live credential.
- Add a packages/types invariant test for one owner per secret key, fallback
tests for retired/unknown providers, and regression tests for each fix.

Why:
The webview twin deleted outside the mutation queue with no rollback, so a
queued upsert could resurrect the profile and a failed activation left a
ghost entry. The ownership discriminator trusted a caller-supplied field, so
a crafted partial write could name the owner of a secret it wanted preserved.
The inactive delete branch ran no replacement write, so its clear-out never
fired and the deleted profile's credentials stayed in SecretStorage, and a
same-provider succession preserved the deleted key by design.

Impact:
A deleted profile's credentials are removed on every delete path. Partial
writes still preserve a provider's own secrets, and the replacement's own
credential survives a same-provider succession. The global image-generation
key and the codebase-index credentials are structurally excluded from the
purge.
@github-actions github-actions Bot removed the awaiting-author PR is waiting for the author to address requested changes label Oct 30, 2026
…er's ownership

What:
- Both delete branches now pass an ownership-derived keep-set to
purgeDeletedProfileSecrets, via a new getSurvivingProviderSecretKeys helper
that resolves the surviving profile's provider from the manager and keeps the
deleted profile's keys that provider owns.
- Exports providerOwnsSecretKey from ContextProxy.
- Replaces the active branch's blob-derived keep-set with the same helper, and
retitles the round-5 same-provider spec to assert the corrected semantics.
- Adds three inactive-branch specs: same-provider preservation, cross-provider
purge, and the unreadable-survivor purge fallback.

Why:
The inactive branch called purgeDeletedProfileSecrets with no keep-set, so
deleting a profile whose blob declared a key the surviving active profile also
uses deleted the live credential. The e2e profile test's finally deletes
subtask-child-profile and subtask-parent-profile while default is active; all
three are OpenRouter, so they share the single openRouterApiKey SecretStorage
slot. The purge deleted default's credential and every rehydrated task hung
until its 30 s timeout, which is the deterministic 9/3 mocked-e2e failure.

A blob-derived keep-set cannot fix this: the api.getConfiguration() round-trip
rewrites a profile without its secret fields while keeping apiProvider, so the
surviving profile's blob is secret-less exactly when the live credential needs
protecting. Provider ownership comes from the schema, which no round-trip can
strip. The active branch had the same hazard and is aligned.

Impact:
Fixes the deterministic e2e-mock failure: the local mocked subtasks suite is
12/12. Preserves the S-3 security closure, because a cross-provider delete keeps
nothing (the survivor owns none of the deleted keys) and an unreadable survivor
falls back to purging every key the deleted profile declared.

…ived

What: the inactive/timed-out purge compensation now (a) restores the purged
profile through `ProviderSettingsManager.saveConfigIfAbsent`, which checks and
writes under one manager lock and reports whether it wrote, (b) skips that undo
when a same-name profile was saved during the window instead of overwriting it
with the pre-delete snapshot, (c) re-applies a dropped mode binding only when
its id still names a profile (`hasConfigById`), and (d) fences the branch-tail
metadata write behind the abort and reads the list from the manager instead of
the `listApiConfigMeta` cache.

Why: a timed-out purge commits after the caller is told the deletion failed.
The undo then re-saved a stale snapshot over a newer same-name profile (T1), the
reconcile re-applied bindings whose profile no longer existed (T4), and the late
metadata write dropped a profile created during the window from
`listApiConfigMeta` while the manager kept it (T5). `applyProviderProfileRestore`
also wrote the stale `previousContextValues` snapshot on the inactive path, where
no config was ever captured, which was the actual writer behind T5.

Impact: after a timed-out purge the two stores converge to the manager's current
view and never overwrite a newer write. Same-provider succession, the fail-closed
fallback, and the S-3 cross-provider purge are unchanged.

Make the active rollback write conditional.

If a save under the deleted name lands before the rollback runs, applyProviderProfileRestore overwrites that profile with the pre-delete snapshot. Use saveConfigIfAbsent before the restore write, as the inactive undo does. When it returns undefined, return false so the existing reconcile path runs.

Recheck the abort signal after the survivor-key lookup, before the secret purge.

After a timeout, the aborted delete body still runs. A profile saved during the survivor lookup can have its shared key purged at ClineProvider.ts:2282-2285 and 2364-2367, because no signal check precedes either purge.

In the profile deletion flow, recheck the abort signal after

Split map: #1735 is now PR-A; the rest of the family is #2266

The combined round-7 branch exceeded the changed-code mutation gate (500 executable lines), so it is split into two PRs. This PR is PR-A; the remaining threads are PR-B at #2266.

Thread CodeRabbit Fixed at Lives in
T1 — undo overwrites a same-name profile r4423513634 057100896 A (this PR)
T4 — skip mode-binding re-apply when the profile was not restored r4423513666 057100896 A (this PR)
T5 — fence the inactive-delete metadata write after the purge r4425269260 057100896 A (this PR)
T2 — fence the fallback reconcile after an aborted rollback r4423513644 f779686b9 B (#2266)
T3 — post the restored state after a successful rollback r4423513651 7c3feed15 B (#2266)
T6 — keep-set from all remaining providers, not just the active one r4425269275 7c3feed15 B (#2266)
T7 — surface a failed secret purge r4425269292 7c3feed15 B (#2266)

All seven T1:-T7: regression tests ship in 7c3feed15 (PR-B), because that commit also carries the test-harness corrections they depend on. The fixes for T1/T4/T5 are in this PR; their tests are in PR-B.

Heads

Two things a reviewer should know

PR-A is not independently green as committed. 057100896 changes undoCommittedProviderProfilePurge to return boolean and to call saveConfigIfAbsent, but the spec's mockProviderSettingsManager() harness at that commit still lacks saveConfigIfAbsent and hasConfigById (both added in 7c3feed15), and one test re-implements the purge splice over the profile array without updating the harness's configs map. Three tests therefore fail on 057100896: reconciles the manager's active pointer when the restore fails, restore abort at the mode re-apply still reconciles the mode map in both stores, and undoes an inactive purge that committed after the caller already timed out. All three are harness staleness, not source defects: adding the two mock methods and delegating the purge recorder to the harness implementation makes the file 237/237 green against 057100896's unchanged source. Those corrections are in 7c3feed15.

Neither PR is under the gate when measured against main. Measured with the gate's own functions (parseChangedLines + executableChangedLines, source read from the commit under test, merge-base 4d14dbe13): 057100896 = 498 (2 lines of headroom), 7c3feed15 = 507 (over by 7), and 057100896..7c3feed15 = 86 incremental. An earlier pass reported 483 / 490; those came from parsing each commit's diff against a working tree holding a different commit's source, which changes which lines the TypeScript parser classifies as executable. The 483 figure reproduces exactly when the working tree holds 7c3feed15's source, confirming the cause. The split makes the delta reviewable and lets PR-A land on its own; admitting the final 7 lines needs a maintainer decision (narrow reviewed exclusion, or another trim pass on ClineProvider.ts).

No thread is being resolved here. The per-thread replies and resolutions follow after this map is read.

… regressions

What: the deleteProviderProfile spec harness now mirrors the real manager's single
lock (`withLock` + a lock-free `deleteConfigUnlocked`), mocks `saveConfigIfAbsent`,
`hasConfigById` and `hasConfig`, and the legacy inactive-undo recorder delegates to
`getMockImplementation()` instead of re-splicing the profile array. Adds the T1, T4
and T5 regression tests, whose fixes are in this PR.

Why: this PR's source calls `ProviderSettingsManager.saveConfigIfAbsent` and
`hasConfigById`, but the spec harness at this commit predates both, so three
deleteProviderProfile specs failed against correct source. The recorder also had to
stop re-implementing the splice: the harness keeps profiles in a private `configs`
map, so a recorder that only spliced the array left that map holding the purged name
and `saveConfigIfAbsent` saw it present, silently skipping the undo.

Impact: spec-only, no source change. `__tests__/` is in the mutation gate's
EXCLUDED_PATH_SEGMENTS, so this commit costs 0 gate lines. The T2/T3/T6/T7
regressions stay with the follow-up PR because they need its source changes.

Split repair: spec-harness back-port added to PR-A (no source change)

Heads after the repair:

PR Head Gate (cumulative vs main)
A (#1735) 311e784ae 498 / 500
B (#2266) 773ef7c06 498 / 500

What moved. 311e784ae is spec-only: it back-ports the deleteProviderProfile spec harness from the follow-up branch (withLock + lock-free deleteConfigUnlocked, mocks for saveConfigIfAbsent / hasConfigById / hasConfig, and the legacy inactive-undo recorder delegating to getMockImplementation()), and adds the T1 / T4 / T5 regression tests. No source file changes, so the source under review is still exactly 057100896.

Why. 057100896 calls ProviderSettingsManager.saveConfigIfAbsent and hasConfigById, but the harness at that commit predated both, so three deleteProviderProfile specs failed against correct source. That was the only reason PR-A was not independently green.

Gate cost: 0 lines. __tests__/ is in scripts/stryker-diff.mjs's EXCLUDED_PATH_SEGMENTS, so the added spec lines are not counted. PR-A stays at 498.

Thread map is unchanged. T1/T4/T5 fixes ship here; T2/T3/T6/T7 and their regression tests ship in #2266. The test split was determined empirically: applying the whole spec delta to PR-A's source leaves exactly T2, T3, T6 and T7 failing, so those four need PR-B's source.

Verification at 311e784ae:

  • ClineProvider.spec.ts → 240 passed / 240 (237 pre-existing + T1/T4/T5)
  • ClineProvider.spec.ts + ContextProxy.spec.ts + ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts → 3 files passed, 347 tests passed
  • core/config + core/webview sweep → 43 files passed, 1038 tests passed
  • tsc --noEmit clean; eslint --prune-suppressions --max-warnings=0 exit 0; eslint-suppressions.json unchanged
  • e2e: source unchanged, so the earlier 12/12 subtasks run on 057100896 still applies (not re-run)

Measurement method (state this wherever the numbers are quoted). The gate's own functions with the source read from the commit under test via git show <sha>:<path>. selectFromGit reads source from the working tree while diffing from git, so measuring a commit against a working tree holding a different commit's source skews the count; that mismatch is what produced the earlier 483/490 figures, now withdrawn.

What:
- ProviderSettingsManager.setModeConfig takes `onlyIfUnbound`, performing the
profile-existence check, the mode-still-unbound check and the write under one
lock. `hasConfigById` is deleted; its only caller was the reconcile.
- reconcileActiveProfileAfterFailedRestore gates the fallback activation on the
deleted profile's name instead of the pre-delete selection, so a failed
inactive delete keeps the unchanged active profile.
- The inactive delete's list mirror drops its redundant name filter:
`listConfig()` already excludes the deleted name, and the filter dropped a
same-name profile a direct manager write saved during the purge.
- The timed-out inactive branch mirrors the manager only when its view diverged
from the cache, instead of always writing a snapshot that can be older than a
  newer mutation's write.

Why:
CodeRabbit's round-3 review opened 7 threads on Zoo-Code-Org#1735/Zoo-Code-Org#2266. Five describe real
races; two prescriptions were falsified by probe (purging owned secrets on a
complete activation re-breaks the round-4 same-provider data loss; skipping the
aborted mirror disables the T5 convergence contract).

Impact:
Both stores stay convergent through a timed-out delete and a failed restore,
and a newer mode binding or selection is never overwritten by a rollback. Gate
stays at 498/500 measured, with no defense removed. Adds T8-T11 plus four
manager-level tests; all are red on the previous head.

Closing in favor of #2266. After the fix-8/fix-9 rounds and a 3-seat independent review, this PR-A's unique commit (the spec-harness back-port) is test-only and already contained in #2266's lineage, and the A/B split has produced real drift (A retains the hasConfigById source method that fix-8 deleted, while #2266's spec had been mocking the removed method - fixed in dc6e0dc). All 7 CodeRabbit threads on this PR are replied-and-resolved with evidence. Keeping both PRs open doubles the review/gate cycle for one codebase state; #2266 (head dc6e0dc, gate 497/500, A/B merged, CI green) is the single vehicle for the profile-purge program. Remaining known defects (6 threads there: credential capture/restore T1, ImSp ownership union, task re-sync yImTS/yImTc, manager-entry yImTg, T7) are dispositioned with executable follow-up-PR specs in the session ledger. Reopen if maintainers prefer the split.
